Damon has been trapped in the earth for hundreds of years, now he's out, he's looking for his trappers descendant and the sweetness of revenge.
Then he meets Arella.
And it all goes to hell...

6. Nothing

Apparently I needn’t have bothered worrying about Damon.

He’d made more friends in a day then I had in almost seven years here.

A mix match group of people stood around him, watching his every move dotingly as if he was one breath away from revealing the winning lottery numbers.

“How’d he do that?” I said, nudging Corbett as we walk to his car.

He shrugged and opened the passenger door for me; Brenna already sat in the back seat, bopping her head to her iPod.

  “Probably paid them.” He grumbled.

I ignored the comment and continued to watch as Damon turned to look directly at me.

Shivers crept up my spine but I couldn’t seem to remember how to control my body.

Look away! Turn, get in the car. God damn it, look away!

But I didn’t. I couldn’t.

A slow smile teased an unexpected dimple out of his cheek and, never looking away from me, said something I couldn’t hear.

Katie Lovell, the school slut who was painfully stereotypical with her blonde hair, blue eyes and orange face, leapt forward.

He raised his eyebrows at me.

Some sort of challenge?

But wh-oh.

Absentmindedly grabbing Katie’s non-existent hip, he pulled her closer and kissed her. It was overly dramatic, tipping her backwards so she was millimetres from the floor.

It was a good act, I’d give him that, but his eyes stayed glued on me the whole time.

It was…unsettling.

Still, I’d never been one to turn down a dare.

I looked pointedly at Corbett who was watching the act with disgust.

Damon pulled away from Katie and smirked.

You wouldnt.

“Corbett,” I said, smiling at Damon. “How would you like to get one up on the jerky new guy?”

From the look on Damon’s face, I’d have thought he could hear me had he not been on the other side of the car park.

Corbett’s face lit up.

“I would like that very much.”

“Great, then I need us to re-act the Romeo and Juliet scene from earlier again.”

His eyebrows twitched into a frown before he shrugged and his face fell into the familiar features of Romeo. His hand brushed aside a piece of my hair and we kissed, slowly, gently, not as showy as Damon’s ridiculous act.

I pulled away and peeked out of the corner of my eye but him and his new “friends” weren't there.

  “Did we win?” Corbett breathed.

I smiled.

  “I think we did.”

I slipped into the car. Shutting the door behind me.

“Uh, what was that?” Brenna asked from the back, confusion on her pixie features.

I laughed, Corbett getting comfortable behind the wheel.
