When The Lights Went Out

All Lexie could heard were the distant gun shots. All she could do was hope Lauren wasn't in the way of those bullets. Then, " BANG!" One loud gun shot one shot that would change her life forever. Who did this bullet bring into her life, and what secrets does he try so desperately to hide??????

4. A secret revealed

We sat outside me and Lex, it was getting late and the stars were coming out. We sat there in silence just staring at the sky. I was thinking of how crazy this week had been. First, Lexie ended up coming down with a minor cold which she got over fairly quickly. Then, when she was feeling better we went on a little hunting trip together. Which ended with me falling down a hole and cutting myself up pretty bad. Finally, Lauren burn herself trying to get a fire started on a windy day.

Really this was the first day that nothing bad had happened. Me and Lexie had been sitting there for a good couple of hours. She was watching the stars come out and I was watching her sky-blue eyes full with the reflection of the twinkly little things.

Then Lauren came out to tell us to get inside before she drag us there herself considering it was nearly midnight. As we made our way to the stairs Lauren caught my arm and dragged me into the kitchen.

She turned to me with a serious expression and said, "Don't you dare try to even think about hurting Lexie."

I was shocked why would I want to her Lex. Then Lauren, having realised how harsh she had sounded continued this time sounding a little more friendly, "Just please don't break her heart she has been through more than you know."

Then I heard a floorboard creak. I spun around to find Lexie standing there into the doorway. "Well if your going to talk about me I might as we'll be here to listen." She said I could hear the anger begin to rise in her voice. When I asked her why Lauren had gotten so mad at me. She explained how when she was 14 she and La left their family to start over. She told me of how guys would try to get her and Lauren drunk and tried to get them in bed with them nearly everywhere she went. When they found this place they had nearly lost hope.

After all that we decided to go get some sleep.

I woke up to the sound of someone down stairs. I crept down to find Lexie sitting on the couch her face in her hands. But a he wasn't crying. I walked over and sat down next to her. She look up and asked, "Why are you up so late? Actually it is none of my business."

Then she returned to staring at the floor. I knew she was remembering the time she was with her family. I decided I had to try to make her feel better. "Lex can I tell you a secret?"

She looked up at me with a curious expression and nodded. I continued, "Well, when the power went out I was in Kansas City on tour. We at first thought it was a power fail and thought nothing of it. But when the lights stayed off me and the lads began to worry. We snuck away that night to see what was happening. When we got so far..." I paused I couldn't tell her the truth it would scare her. She would never trust me, so I lied, "We... Um got lost and eventually began to lose hope. We had nothing no food, no money and eventually we split up I knew it was for the best, but then I got stuck it that city of yours... well time has kind of caught up with us."

Lexie was obviously not convinced but she didn't question me. We went up stairs and she fell asleep with my arm around her. I kept thinking about how close I was to telling her about "them." I would break her trust and her heart. I will never tell her, never in a million years.
