3. My Katniss

“I guess that means something Katniss never changed her maiden name.” I mumble to myself. I survey my surroundings until an etch discovered an intruder.

I thought back from the games I remember that Katniss had a few trust issues. It took a while for her to open up. I only found out about her father's accident in the mine during the second games. She even admitted to me that she wasn’t very good at making friends. Katniss turned twenty, and Gale turned twenty two when they got married. It didn’t take very long to have Gash. Sometimes I wonder, was she forced to give life to a son? No I don’t think so. On a second thought, no way she is way to independent and stubborn. Katniss would have fled if she felt trapped or imprisoned. Gash was made out of true love apparently. She told me that when she was ready she would present all her love to the guy she truly loved. I wonder if there’s still room for me? There has to be.

“How may I help you?” Gale said in a firm tone, once he has slipped out of the darkness.

“I am here to determine the truth,” I sternly said. Katniss appeared behind Gale swaddling Gash in her arms.

“Let’s all sit down and discuss the issue that has arisen,” Katniss asks reassuringly.

“Yes I think we can all do that in a civil manner,” I acknowledge with Katniss.

“I will go put Gash down for his nap,” Gale says as he gestures Katniss with open arms. Once Gale leaves the room we stare at each other for a few moments but then I blurt,

“What’s wrong with you? How could you pick him over me?”

“I am sorry but I don’t know what you are talking about,” she replies without hesitation. She answered my question as if she was planning to respond like that for a lifetime.

“I am talking about our future.” I enunciate.

“What future?” She retorts.

“You robbed me a whole entire year from our sons life!” I shouted.

“How did you know?” Katniss gasps.

“I just know, I feel it inside of me. You have to feel something too!” I bellow.

“Well she doesn’t have any feelings toward you right Catnip?” Gale chuckles and links hands with Katniss.

“Let her speak for herself!” I blare.

“Both of you keep it down I don’t want Gash’s nap to be interrupted,” Katniss hushes and places a finger over her pink cracked lip.

"Wait, so he is really mine?" I spoke cautiously. Silence filled the room. I started to tap my foot impatiently. Gale sensed my anxiousness and broke the lull with a startling,

“You told him, didn’t you?” Gale asks.

“Hey, I’m right here,” I say sarcastically.

“How did he figure it out?” Gale interrogates.

“It’s just a feeling that you will never experience since you're not a father,” I explain. Finally I have found the answer I have been searching for. From this point on nothing will be the same. Everything has changed.

"I am so sorry, I hurt both of you!" I know we had a promise. I couldn't take it anymore. It was just too much pressure for me to handle." Katniss exploded. Automatically Gale and I whipped our heads in the opposite direction. I glared at him and he glowered down at me. Katniss took our cue to storm out and tend to Gash.

"What promise?" I demanded towards Gale. His head was like a target. I directed my finger to the ideal spot right above his temple. I wished at that exact moment my pointer could turn into a weapon. The sweet thought of a bullet ripping through his noggin gave me the chills. His body hit the ground. Gale tried to grasp anything to break his fall. He ended up unsuccessful and pools of blood decorated the wood floor. His next comment brought me back to reality.

"Oh that was just a cover up, it’s actually a secret! It is such a shame that I can't let you in on the devious arrangement. "He cackled. I simply responded by goose bumps traveling up my arms.
