5. My Choice

I wish I could just forget them. Although, I don’t regret my entire trip. I was kind of happy that I went. Gash reminded me why I went and left. I had to protect him and my heart. The way it broke before it just shattered completely. I couldn’t function properly anymore without whispering her name or daydreaming about her. It’s not fair that I had to be the bigger person in this situation. You know what’s funny he’s older! Why couldn’t Gale just leave?

I know this whole star crossed lover’s thing was all just a joke/act. Why did I have to be a part of it? I am really sensitive especially when it comes to love. I knew that Katniss was the one. I wasn’t “acting” to keep myself alive I was believing in us. A bright light entered my room as my TV monitor automatically turned on. The capitol programmed it to turn on if anything “important” happens.

The house the cameras focused on were very familiar. It felt like I was there a minute ago. Wait, I guess this old news because they filmed me entering their house. Okay... that’s not creepy at all. In this time period nothing is a secret.

The next scene was a shot of Gale withdrawing from his household. That moment I imagined 24/7. I was wondering if I was daydreaming again. The entire time I was spending time with Katniss and Gash, I wondered where he went. Now I am about to find out!

There were two considerably quiet camera crews outside of the house for the duration of the time. At least I didn’t hear a peep, thud, or cough. I bet they were instructed to keep it at a hush because two legendary tributes were in their midst. We were trained to be very perceptive and acute when it came to our five noble senses. In comparison amid my stay I remember Katniss would look up startled in fear. Occasionally cocking her head to her dominant side to hear clearly. I thought she was constantly listening to Gash or keep an eye out for Gale.

I watched every moment but specifically when Gale abandoned Katniss for a short period. One black van stalked Gale. Instantly he approached his vehicle and left. Leaving at the house one camera crew. On the front yard they were all set up. Listening attentively to probably each conversation. Every deep dark emotional chat was being heard from the outside and intruders.

Thankfully, the interview and news feed didn’t include any segment of our engrossed communications. I bet it will be dispersed throughout the capitol and all the common people in a day or so. This is the kind of thing you have to put up with when technology is involved not to mention if you are famous. The interview lasted a total of two hours. I guess they left when they were finally content with the information they obtained.

The TV blared what the interviewer spoke,

“As you can see behind me, the Hawthorne/Everdeen residences.”

“It should be called the Mellark residence,” I interrupted his voice and inputted my thoughts. If we were married I know she would have the guts to take my last name, it’s an honor. One of the reasons I believe Katniss held onto her maiden name is she knows that it won’t work out. Secondly, she doesn’t want to be reminder of her failed marriage. Lastly, it may just be an embarrassment. I mean they evacuated because of Gash and humanity.

Throughout the entire discussion I didn’t focus much on the reporter much, just his voice and his tone.

“We pursued Gale’s automobile all the way to his Mother-In-Law’s address.” This kind of makes sense. Considering both of Gale’s parents were slaughtered by the mine explosion, the same one that executed Katniss’ father. What was his business there? Did he need advice, coaxing or some motherly love?

“Anyway his concluding stop was at his rightful place. Minutes later Peeta was spotted in Gale’s position.” The last comment ended with,

“Will it stay like that?”

“No of course not, I have to figure out what concoction they are mixing.” That’s odd, the news never added the last cold whispers exchanged between Gale and I.

“I do!” I exclaimed while I gazed at the white laced heart line of Katniss' wedding dress. Her train was consumed by a ray of flowers. The ring bearer was Gash. Gale was nowhere to be seen. I guess his invitation got ‘lost’ in the mail!

“You may kiss the lovely bride,” the Chaplin proclaimed. I embraced her in my arms and planted a kiss on her li-.

“WAKE UP!” a voice roared. My eyes remained closed so I could try to keep my awesome dream alive.

“Come on you sleepy/lazy head!” he shouted again.

“I’m-m up” I wearily said.

“I thought you had a hangover or something. I have been in your house for thirty minutes and trying to wake you up for fifteen!” Finnick explained. I like him because he is someone who saved my life and would never try to steal my girl. I just materialized he is someone I could consider to be trust worthy.

“I’m sorry. No I was just really upset last night.” I said through a fake smile.

“I understand. It’s about the news right?” he comprehended. I slowly shook my head up and down to his response.

“Well, if you weren’t stoned last night why didn’t you wake up immediately?” Finn asked. I call him Finn ever since the wetland arena. He is such a swift swimmer especially when he saved my life in the water.

“I was in the middle of an erotic dream,” I blushed.

“Who was in it? Katniss?” he teased.

“Of course! You know me like the back of your hand.” I laughed as I gently slapped on his muscular bicep. I think it hurt me more than him. Without a flinch he continued,

“What’s on the agenda for today?"

“Just a variety of writing.” I said coldly.

“I thought you were going to your almost mother-in-laws place,” he said bewildered.

“I was about to but I couldn’t stand getting rejected again. I’m sure she loathes me. I mean I tried to steal her daughter away from the ‘perfect’ Gale.” I dismayed.

“Man, I don’t think she hates you. I bet you are still identified by family.” Finn said with a grin.

“More like friends,” I cheerlessly said.

“Don’t worry. ‘Everything will be okay in the end, if it’s not okay it’s not the end.” Finnick quoted as he patted my back.

“Okay, let’s change the subject. Do you want anything to drink or did you-?”

“I helped myself,” he interrupted me.

“What’s prepared for the rest of your day?” I questioned, while swinging the fridge open and grasping a bottle of water.

“Since it’s already two, I will give you some advice. Then I will return to my sweetheart Annie.” Finnick smirked. Once he formed the word Annie his face lit up.

“At least you have someone to return home to...” I murmured. His face darkened after I spit out my last sentence.

“A-ah sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt your-” I said embarrassed.

“It’s okay I know,” he empathized.

“About that advice?” I said before I sipped on my fresh water.

“Fight! Love is a battle field. With all of the wonders and wants of the world. What do people crave the most?” Finn said as he pointed at me.

“Uh-umm, l-love?” I said carefully.

“JACKPOT! Everyone wants to be adored, wanted, and accepted. ” he finished.

“Very true and valid point.” I started nodding my head to the beat that his brown based shoe tapped.

“Have fun with your writing! Lover boy. I better be going.” Finnick badgered.

“Bye, see ya later.” I said ignoring his final assertion. My face stayed in the same pose. He knew what I was trying to accomplish. I walked him to the door and waved him on his way. Before I turned to go back inside I caught a glimpse of another camera crew.

“Why not just ‘bug’ my house?!” I said in anger.

There were two considerably quiet camera crews outside of the house for the duration of the time. At least I didn’t hear a peep, thud, or cough.
