20. Chapter 20

(Adam's POV)

"Hey, daddy.", Jolie poked me in the side.

"Mhmm?", I mumbled sleepily.

"Ooh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you. I thought you were already awake. We fell asleep. Should we go see if the guys are still here? The game should be off by now.", she said.

"I'm sure they're gone, except for Matt.", I muttered.

"Oh, um... Okay. Are we just going to stay right here?", she asked, sliding up closer, touching her finger to the tip of my nose.

"We can. Unless...", I trailed off.

"Unless what?", Jolie questioned.

"Do you want to go to Starbucks? An iced black tea sounds nice to me.", I replied.

"Ooh, yes please! A mocha would be so nice.", she nodded eagerly.

"Okay, let's go.", I chuckled.

We tiptoed through the living room, seeing that Matt was asleep on the couch. Jolie stopped to look in the mirror hanging in the hallway, ruffling her dyed red hair. She leaned forward and ran her fingers over her new piercings in her lips.

"Are you sure it's okay for us to go out looking like this?", she whispered.

"It's fine. We're just going to Starbucks, anyway.", I said, looking at our reflections in the mirror. We were both wearing sweatshirts, mine red and hers blue. Our hair looked like we had just rolled out of bed, which was true. She fixed the part in her hair and turned around to me.

"But they'll take pictures, put them in magazines, and say that I've let myself go because of Jason.", Jolie said, referring to the paparazzi. "And that's not true."

"If it's not true, then there's nothing to worry about. As long as you know who you are, then it will be fine.", I reassured her.

"Oh... Okay.", she sighed. "I just really don't like them."

"No one likes them.", I groaned.

(Jolie's POV)

As we got into the car, Adam messed with his hair a bit, looking into the rearview mirror. He started the car, seeming very focused.

"Why do you get so in the zone when you drive?", I asked.

"Driving make me nervous.", he said.

"Really? I like driving. Driving actually makes me calm down. I remember when I started crying one time, because I got in a fight with my mom, Jason drove me around for hours.", I replied. "Dammit, I said I wasn't going to miss him."

"Missing someone or something is all a part of getting over it.", Adam added.

"Oh. I thought that was just grieving or something.", I chided.

"It'll be fine. I promise.", Adam said, reaching over and cupping my hand in his.

"How do you get over people?", I asked.

"I've made 4 albums, how do you think?", Adam raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, that's right.", I laughed.

When we inside, Adam ordered our drinks while I found a booth. Adam soon came with a mocha and a black iced tea. Before Adam could take a sip of his, I stopped him.

"Wait! I need to take a picture!", I explained. Adam rolled his eyes. I put our cups side by side, having Adam in the background. Adam gave a thumbs up to the camera.

"Twitter perfect!", I smiled.

"Great, now give me my tea.", he snarled.

"Alright, alright.", I huffed.

"Can you drop me off at Mickey's place? I'll come home later.", I asked, giving him puppy dog eyes.

"Fine.", Adam sighed. "Just don't come home really late."

"Thanks", I said, sipping my drink.

(Mickey's POV)

I heard a knock on my door, and just guessing who it was, I didn't ask who.

"Hey.", Jolie smiled and stepped in.

"Hey. You feel better after... Jason?", I questioned.

"I miss him, but daddy said that was all part of getting over someone.", she acknowledged.

"Don't listen to anything he says about relationships. You know how he is.", I advised, giving her a poke in the side as we walked into the living room.

"Oh, good point.", she agreed. We sat down on the couch and she let out a puff of irritation.

"What's bothering you? I can tell something's wrong. Don't act like it's not. I know you too well.", I asked.

"I've got to go to Atlanta tomorrow and it's dad's birthday.", she replied, frowning.

"Are you recording?", I implied.

"Yeah. I would stay for his birthday, but it really doesn't even matter. He's probably just going to hook up with a girl off the streets for a one night stand. He won't even notice I'm gone.", she shrugged.

"Um, yes, he will. He's been going on for weeks about how he wants to spend his birthday with you for the first time.", I assured.

"Are you serious?", Jolie's voice escalated.

"Yes, I'm serious.", I replied.

"Do you think we could get everyone to fly out for the day, maybe two?", she quipped.

"Of course. I'll talk to them tonight.", I decided.

"That was easier than I thought.", she sighed.

"Hey, Mickey. Do you think we could, you know? Maybe?", she asked, slithering up, her tongue swirling around the outside of my ear.

"Um, no.", I said. "Not today."

"Oh, come on. You know you want to...", she giggled, her hands unbuttoning my shirt.

"No!", I shoved her away. "You're recovering from an attempted suicide, and I can't fuck you knowing that. I'm sorry.", I explained.

"Oh", she whispered. "Sorry. I shouldn't have asked. I need to leave anyway." She got up and started to walk down the hallway.

"You can stay, if you want. It's no big deal.", I offered.

"No, no. Really, Adam wants me home.", she reasoned. "I'm just walking two doors down, it's fine."

"Oh, okay. I'll see you tomorrow.", I smiled.

"Yeah, see you then.", she smiled back.
