Little Miss Levine

17. Chapter 17

(Adan's POV)

Two days after Jolie had been released from the hospital, there was a knock at my door. I opened it and Jolie's arms snaked around me.

"I missed you, daddy.", she breathed.

"Missed you, too, baby girl.", I said.

"Don't say that. It's not true. You never wanted me.", she sighed unhappily, pushing away from me and going inside. She remembered everything I had said to her and she still came back.

"Then why'd you come back?", I smirked, following her into the living room. "Do you want to try again?"

"If I'm stupid enough to come back, then I'm stupid enough to try this again. Trying to start over with you the last time was partially why I'm in this position now, but I'll try again.", she plopped down onto the couch.

"That's good. If it doesn't work this time, if we can't get this daddy-daughter relationship to work this time, we won't try again, okay?", I asked. She nodded her head in agreement. I sat down next to her and put my arm around her shoulder. "I'm sorry about what I said the other day.", I apologized.

"You may not have been able to tell me that, you know? I wish I wouldn't have dropped that chair so damn loud! They wouldn't have known for 20 more minutes and that would've been enough time.", she exclaimed. "But I'm not going to try that again. I'm going to be better. I promise.", she turned to face me. "That's good, right?", she furrowed her eyebrows.

"It's wonderful.", I chuckled. "You got this."

"Okay.", she turned back to the TV, reaching for the remote. I noticed a black inking across the inside bend of her elbow.

"What's this?", I asked, gently pulling her arm closer, careful not to brush against a cut too hard.

"Oh...", she giggled, blushing. "Our name. I got some tattoos lately. I really like getting them.", she said. The tattoo read "Levine" in cursive.

"And how long have you had this?", I questioned.

"About a month.", she answered.

"Oh. Why didn't you tell me about it? It's really beautiful.", I smiled.

"I didn't think you had to be told when I got new tattoo, considering its right there on my arm, out in the open, for everyone to see. You don't pay attention to anything, do you?", she stated.

"Nope. There's nothing to pay attention to.", I laughed. "The world is so boring."

"I feel like the word "nothing" is illogical. Nothing.", she rambled on. "There's always something going on, maybe it's just oblivious to you." Her philosophical beliefs were always nice to hear. Jolie had a very different frame of mind, I thought.

"Deep.", I commented. "But also true."

"There's not "nothing" going on. I signed a record deal less than an hour ago.", she boasted.

"With who?", I asked in surprise.

"Oh, you know... No one big or anything.... Just the one and only Jay-Z!!!", she shrieked, jumping up off the couch, bouncing up and down.

"You mean like the Jay-Z? Like, Beyonce's husband?", I stood up.

"Yes, that Jay-Z! He's so nice. He said was hoping I'd be like the little, white girl version of him... In a way.", she exclaimed.

"Then, why are we just standing here? Why aren't we celebrating?", I said.

"Jason and I are going out tomorrow. Or tonight. I don't know. He said he'd call.", she explained, sitting back down. "If we do, I'm changing clothes."

"Just you and him? Like a date?", I queried.

"Mhmm. Just like a date.", she replied.

"People are going to mistake you two as a couple, you know", I advised. She looked up at me and laughed.

"We are a couple. We're dating now.", she nodded her head.

"Aw, that's sweet!", I poked at her sides. "You finally got a boyfriend!" She glared at me.

"Whatever.", she replied. About an hour later, she told me that she was going to put on pajamas since she wasn't going out that night. Jolie's idea of pajamas was much similar to mine. Either a lot or barely anything. She walked out of her room wearing a gray sweatshirt and hot pink underwear. She had gotten comfortable with herself and me, so partial nudity was usual in the house, especially since I walked around the house in my underwear all the time.

"You know what's weird? You just sit during long car rides, but it makes you tired.", she said.

"Are you tired?", I asked. "You sound tired." Her thoughts always drifted when she was sleepy.

"Can we go to bed?", she yawned. I nodded. I thought she was going to her room, but instead she climbed into my bed, not that I had a problem with it. Her nose pressed into my stomach and her arms clung to my torso.

"I love you. I wish we wouldn't have fought last week. I missed you so much.", she said. I could feel her eyelashes flutter against my bare skin.

"I missed you too. It's all okay now. When the scars go away, that's when we'll know it's over.", I whispered.

"They'll be gone soon. They're just battle scars. That's what Lupe said.", she whispered back.
