6. New and Improved

Finals weren't as difficult as I had expected. Now we had a couple weeks for winter break and Anna was spending the night. It was hard not to think about Justin, but having Anna there to support me made it easier. Right now, we were sitting in my room and she was rummaging through my closet.

"Omg Lee, these clothes are so cute!" Anna said, pulling a handful from the closet.  "Where did you get them?"

"In Europe, over the summer," I replied, shrugging my shoulders.

"Why haven't you ever worn them?"

"I don't know, my mom picked them out. I'm not really into all that girly stuff."

Anna grabbed more clothes from the closet, ordering me to try them all on. I rolled my eyes, but met her demands, modeling each and every outfit for her.

"You need to wear these to school!" Anna exclaimed. "You could make Justin jealous," she said in a teasing tone.

I looked at Anna skeptically. "I don't need to make Justin jealous. I don't like him anyway."

"You're just in denial... ha, get it?! Just-in like Justin," she said laughing hard. I threw a pillow at her. "But seriously, you have to wear some of these."

She picked up one outfit and threw it onto my bed. Then she found shoes to match. The dress was emerald green with long sleeves and a thick black belt around the waist. It wasn't too dressy to wear to school and was one I liked more than others. Anna had picked out one of my pairs of black ballet flats.

I looked at the dress and thought about what Anna had said. It would be a waste to not ever wear these dresses and I kinda want to see the look on Justin's face when he saw me that day. Finally, I threw in a black pair of tights and agreed to wear it when school resumed. Anna jumped up and down excitedly and sat on the bed next to me.

"You're gonna look so smokin'. Justin is gonna be crawlin' back to you in no time."

"Back to me? We were just friends." But I was laughing too.

School came again all too quickly. My family had come down to visit for Christmas, and I got tons of new dresses that Anna would fawn over. I promised myself that I would wear them, so they didn't go to waste... at least that's what I told myself I was wearing them for. I got dressed early and walked carefully downstairs. It wasn't too cold today, which I was glad for. The tights were slightly uncomfortable, but I had promised I would wear it.

"Oh honey! You look absolutely adorable." My mom said when she saw me.

"Thanks mom, Anna picked it out." I smiled sheepishly, and ate breakfast as mom got ready. She drove me to school, as always and I walked inside alone... as always.

"Eep! I told you! You look sexy Lee!" Anna said growling at me jokingly. I laughed embarrassed and walked with her to our lockers.

Hope was still on vacation when school started again, so I chilled with Ryan and Chaz before first period. I had grown used to hanging around the sophomore hall so being in the freshman hall was weird.

"Justin, dude. You have to watch this video of Chaz. We went out late over break and went snowboarding, well sort of." Ryan was grinning and holding his phone out to me.

"That's crazy shit, man." I said laughing. The warning bell rang and we all went our separate ways to class.

I texted Hope, but never got a response. So I was sitting in biology at a loss as for what to do. My mind wandered until a thought of Kaelee ran across my mind. I thought about how we would hang out, and do nothing or just play video games in my basement. Though I would never admit it to Chaz or Ryan, she would kick my ass. We had a lot of fun and we could talk about anything. There was never a need to hide things from Kaelee, and she would listen to my girl problems. Sometimes I feel like I can't talk to Hope that way, but she has different qualities. She is extremely attractive, flirty, and a great kisser not to mention she had a nice ass... and I am a butt guy.

I tried texting Hope again, and thought about texting Kaelee. I decided against it, she wouldn't want to talk to me and I didn't want to make Hope mad. Instead I tried to focus on the lecture.

Mondays were always slow, and I couldn't wait to get out of this dress. When I walked through the halls I could feel people's eyes watching me. I could have sworn that I heard people talking to each other.

"Do you know her?" One would say.

"I think she's new." Another would say.

"That's that one chick."

I didn't know whether or not to take it as a compliment. Today had been a good day, many of my classmates had commented on the dress, and were fascinated that I had been to Europe. But outside of class, they ignored me. I wouldn't be surprised if they forgot who I was on Tuesday. There was one class period left, and I was exhausted and Spanish was extremely boring.

"Hey, Kaelee right?" The kid next to me said, his name was Conner.

"Yeah?" I looked over at him. He had dark hair and sparkling blue eyes that stood out beneath his long hair.

"You look nice today, you should dress up more often." He shook his head, moving his hair from his eyes and smiled. "I mean it."

"Oh, well thanks." I said awkwardly.

"I really hate this class." He said. I nodded back rolling my eyes. "Senor! Senor!" He said mocking the teacher. I laughed and he continued. "All I know how to say is no se!"

I laughed really hard, the bell rang and the teacher shut the door behind her. I had to cover my mouth to muffle my laughter. I looked over and saw Conner smiling at me, the attention made me blush. Minutes later a note landed on my desk.

'Hey there cutie.' The handwriting was sloppy. I looked around and saw Conner wriggling his eyebrows at me. I stifled my laughter again and wrote back quickly so I didn't get caught.

'Heyyyy, you should be paying attention.' I had written, from the corner of my eye I saw Conner responding.

'Naw, I know how to respond to anything she asks me. No se!' He wrote. 'Anyway, tell me something about you.'

'My name is Kaelee,' I responded sarcastically.

'I know that. What is your favorite color?' He asked with a winky face.

'Green,' I said. And we went back and forth the entire class period. I tried to multitask, but it was hard. I may regret this later, but it was a good distraction from a long day.

'When class is over, walk with me to my locker.' He wrote a few minutes before the bell rang.

'Sure.' I responded.

When the bell rang Conner waited for me and we walked side by side down the hall. He joked with me about our teacher, and told me more about himself. Once he got his stuff together and we walked to my locker he pulled out his phone and asked me for my number. I put it in his phone and sent myself a message so I could save his number on my phone.

"I'll talk to you later." He said winking at me. I sucked in a breath as I took in exactly how good he looked. He was tall. His dark hair swooped in front of his beautiful eyes, and he had the cutest little dimples.

In Spanish, I learned five things today:

1. Conner's favorite color was blue.

2. Conner's least favorite class was Spanish.

3. Conner's middle name is Mason.

4. Conner thought I was cute, and I think he is cute.

5. I was possibly beginning to have a crush on Conner.

My heart all but stopped when I saw Conner with a girl at his locker... With Kaelee at his locker. I hadn't seen her all day, which wasn't unusual, but I was hoping that I could catch her eye and make conversation with her. She was smiling and laughing with Conner, and I watched as they exchanged numbers. Kaelee didn't even notice me standing there next to them, I was obviously staring at them.

"I'll talk to you later!" He said, touching her arm. My stomach knotted at the sight. It wasn't right for this to be happening. I watched Kaelee as she walked away. She hadn't worn a dress since eighth grade graduation, and she looked a lot different now. Her hair was down and flowing naturally, the dress clung to her in all the right places. Her hips swung as she walked away, I had to force myself to turn back to my locker and forget about it, but I couldn't. She looked good and I couldn't deny that. The belt on her green dress emphasized her curves, a small waist and wide hips. My phone vibrated, and for a split second I thought it just might be Kaelee.

'Hey sweetie,' Hope had texted me. I sighed, and forced myself to stop thinking about Kae.
