10. Draco Malfoy And The Singing Valentine

Valentine's day was finally here! I pounced out of bed and onto the floor, ready to give the card to the delivery dwarf, who would deliver Valentine's Day cards this year, because the new Hogwarts Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher (Professor Gilderoy Lockhart! Can you believe it?!) had decided it would add a nice touch to the school. So romantic! He also decorated the Great Hall, I heard, in pink and red, with little confetti hearts! I had no idea why the boys were groaning, it seemed perfect to me Lockhart was so caring!

I pulled on a shirt quickly, along with my Gryffindor tie, a skirt and some red and gold sneakers. (I spray painted them myself at home!) All the girls were jealous, and they said that I would definitely get millions of valentines, although I didn't really believe them . . . I mean, if Harry didn't like me, who would? And I was still scared of the monster inside me  . . .

After getting my Hogwarts robe on, I ran downstairs for breakfast. The hall was so beautiful, exactly like I'd imagined it! There were pink ribbons on one side, red ones on the other, and when he waved his wand, Professor Lockhart conjured up at least a million little, silver confetti hearts that floated around like beautiful shooting stars in the night time sky!

The boys still didn't look happy though. In fact, they were fuming, especially Draco Malfoy from the Slytherin table! He was Harry's worst enemy and they never agreed on anything, any time, apart from now, when it was pretty obvious they both hated pink and red and little silver confetti hearts. I personally loved them,, and so did Hermione! (In fact, I was pretty sure Hermione had a mega crush on Lockhart!)

The dwarf came round in his pink diaper and fairy wings, and collected the cards. When he came to me, I asked him to sing along with the card and make Harry laugh, and he very reluctantly agreed, probably because dwarfs have incredibly bad singing voices! But then again, that was what was going to make it funny!

My first lesson of the day was indeed Defence Against The Dark Arts with the Ravenclaws, so me and Amelia sat together, fangirling over him. At the end of the lesson, we even got a signed picture of him, which was just amazing! As we walked out and into the hallway, the dwarf ran across, shouting names, until at last he said "I've got a musical message to deliver to 'Arry Potter in person!" Harry, for some reason, did NOT want to receive the valentine and tried escaping, but the burly little creature tackled him to the floor and sat on top of him! No! That was not meant to happen! I felt so miserable and embarrassed!

Then, the dwarf opened the card and started singing. It was my worst nightmare come true.

"His eyes are as green as a fresh pickled toad,

His hair is as dark as a blackboard!

I wish he were mine, he's really divine,

The hero who conquered the Dark Lord!"

Everyone started laughing at Harry, and Malfoy stood up and said "Oy, Weasley! I bet it was you who sent that card to Potter! Ha Potter, look at that! Only a girl like her would even want to!" Everyone's eyes were on me, and believe me, it was the worst moment of my life. I tried running away, but I tripped on something, and fell down, causing everyone to laugh even more. I stood up and looked down to see what it was, and discovered that Harry's bag had exploded when the dwarf sat on top of him, causing ink to go all over his books, which made me feel even worse!

But then I looked down at the book I had tripped on. My eyes widened with horror. It was Tom's diary! But I had no time to grab it, as I was already standing up and running away from the situation, tears streaming down from my eyes. It was all over! If Harry had even liked me before, he definitely now hated me, and the whole school probably knew about my crush by now!

Wailing and weeping, I gurgled the password to the Fat Lady and ran up to my dorm, collapsing onto the bed and letting all my emotions loose into the pillow, just in case anyone heard me. "Ginny?" a voice said. "Ginny, it's me, Hermione! Can I come in? I want to talk to you!" I cried in response, so she opened the door and sat down on my bed, stroking my back. "Oh Ginny, don't cry so, it's really alright. Harry isn't mad at you, and at least now he knows!

"Yeah, but so does the whole school!" I wept. "I shouldn't have sent him the stupid valentine!" Hermione told me that everyone will probably forget about it in a few days, but that wasn't the most of my worries.

I was terrified that Tom would tell Harry that I was the monster, I had to get the diary back! I pretended to Hermione that I was OK, that I would deal with it, but I still felt bad for Harry, and scared about me. Before she went, I asked her what they'd be doing at lunch, and she said that they might be hanging out at Hagrid's, so that would buy me some time, and I was desperate! My plan was about to begin.

I thanked her for the help and ran off to my next lesson, hoping it would quickly pass, and that I wouldn't have to wait long for the next free period, at lunch time. Outside, near the Fat Lady, I found Amelia waiting to comfort me, and I hugged her, holding her close, and letting the rest of my emotions stream out, before running off to Flying Lessons, where we practised on brooms, and did what Madam Hooch told us to. As usual, my broom flew into my hand as soon as I shouted "Up!" which earned me five house points, as well as lots of praise. As we flew around freely, I attempted some tricks, even a double whammer, (a twist in mid air, and a sort of pirouette, before diving at the floor) which nearly worked, failing on the dive part, where I landed not on my broom, but on the grass, very confused.

The trees around us swayed softly, and the cherry blossom petals fell to the ground whenever a gust of strong wind blew, making it look like the tree was crying. Of course, we stayed clear of the healing Whomping Willow, which Harry and Ron destroyed when landing Dad's flying car. Somehow, the Ford Anglia drove off by itself after that, stopping only to throw out the boys and their trunks. Ron was so irresponsible, he could have killed Harry in that thing! Oh yeah, himself too . . .

As soon as free period started, I ran up to the common room and looked around. Nobody was there, so I took a deep breath and started climbing the stairs to the boys' dormitories, hoping that what happened to Amelia, wouldn't happen to me. And it did not. Instead, a sudden wave of water charged at me, knocking me off the stairs entirely, and leaving me upside down on the table, very wet. I was fuming! I was furious!

Storming over to the stairs, I tried again. This time, I grabbed onto the stairs when the wave came, climbing below it. I almost slipped when I got to the top, but grabbed onto a step and pulled myself up! The wave disappeared, but I was still soaking, so I used a drying spell on my clothes that Amelia had taught me and immediately felt that warm, toasty feeling you feel when you're in front of a fire, only this time, my clothes were dry in a second! I looked around cautiously, but nobody seemed to be in the dark corridor. The walls were stone like in the girls' corridor, with wooden floors and Quidditch posters all over. I tiptoed across, looking for the second year dorm.

"Found you!" I whisper shouted, doing a mini jump of happiness. I put my ear against the door, my heart beating faster than ever before, but I heard nothing, so I slowly opened it to see if anybody was there. The room was completely empty. Unlike the girl dorms, it was very messy and unorganized, especially by Ron's bed! I sighed, silently apologizing to Harry, before slowly walking towards his drawer.

I couldn't hold in my emotions any more, so I tore open the drawers, pulling out piles of clothes and chucking them onto the floor. But it just didn't feel like me any more! I felt different, as if I wasn't really controlling my movements, but I went on, desperate to find Tom Riddle's Diary. I searched everywhere, even in other people's possessions, until at last I found it. It was still in Harry's bag, where I had seen it before.

Grabbing it quickly, I tore out of the room and let the wave push me down the stairs, finding it helpful this time! I rushed up to my dorm just before the bell went, and Gryffindor's started pouring into the Common Room, grabbing their things for school, and rushing off to their classes.
