15. Lies

Xyla perched quietly upon the highest branch she could reach to. She heard someone stir above her. She looked up to see Alec smiling down at her. He jumped; well fell to the next branch, to be face to face with her.

“Xyla,” He whispered, taking her hand.

“I knew Tobias was a rebel, all along and I didn’t tell anyone. How much of a terrible person does that make me” She sighed. He looked her in the eyes, squeezing her hand.

“I know how that feels, I knew he was too. But I also knew he was your friend.” He smiled, edging closer towards her. She smiled back at him, leaning her head on his shoulder.

“I wanted to protect my sister but, She no longer needs to be protected. She’s stronger than I will ever be; she’s going to be the one who goes far.” She whispered into her hair.

“You, Xyla Leonardo. Are smart and logical and tranquil and mentally strong and absulutley beautiful and that is nothing anyone could compare too.” He stated, turning to face her. He leant in and kissed her cheek lightly, wrapping his arms around her shoulders. “You are truly perfect.”

" wait one second." Alec sighed, hearing his phone ring and jumping down to the ground. He pulled out his phone. The voice on the end of the phone was vaguely familiar but the message was one that made his face drop and his jaw lower. He shoved the phone back into  his pocket, making his way into the cabin. He locked eyes with Noah, storming over to him and grabbing him by the collar.
"Woah Alec!" Noah shouted, gritting his teeth as his body met harshly with the wall. "Dude. What's your problem?"
" You. And Alicia. And everyone else who kept this Damn secret from me!" He shouted back at him, his glare boring into his coffee coloured skin.

"How dare you not tell me who he was!" He continued. "Who the hell do you think you are? My dad is The leader of the high council of Dragons. Sebastian Dawes is my father and you didn't think to flipping mention it!" Noah pushed Alec off of him with great force. He sat back down.

"We wanted to tell you Alec but he wouldn't let us. He swore us to secrecy the day you knew you were an Elder. He didn't want you hurt. And neither did we." Alicia added, placing her hand on his shoulder. He shrugged it off walking away.

"Just forget it" he sighed angrily. In the door way stood Xyla, confused.
"Did you know?” He asked her bluntly.

“Do I Know what? About all that? Of course I don’t!” Xyla said, defending herself. He smiled slightly at her before walking back to the tree, where they had sat moment ago.

Meanwhile Ombra and Serge sat in silence, trading glances and waiting for someone else to break the ever growing tension. A knock echoed from the door through the rest of the cabin, the twins raising their eye brows.  Tobias slowly turned the door handle, his jaw dropping, slightly startled. In all her beauty stood Autumn, tear stained and her clothing torn.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Tobias whispered, angrily, pulling her away from the door.

“Thorn dismissed me, I was no use anymore so I thought why not back up my favourite rebel” She smiled slightly, through her tears.

“You think I want the likes of you fighting my cause? Dream on Autumn! You’re no more than a petty spy for Thorn. You’re so deeply in love with some sort of fantasy you have created in your screwed up little mind in which Thorn might show some sort affection towards you! “He spat at her. She laughed slightly.

“Isn’t that exactly what you did? With Scarlett? You convinced yourself she’d leave Miles for…you, that’s what I’d call petty.” She spat back, wiping her eyes. Tobias started intensely at her.

“You don’t know anything about me.” He shouted, walking back into the cabin, cursing under his breath.

“Tobias?” Alicia asked, walking after him. “Are you alright?”

“Don’t pretend you care, I’ve had enough of that to last me a life time,” he sighed.

“Then don’t act so weak and self-pitiful, I’ve enough to last me two life times, and you know how long Elders live” She laughed slightly, “Listen here Tobias, you, however annoying and smooth and vain you are, you are a part of our family now Tobias North.” She smiled, hugging him momentarily, before walking towards Noah, who was meanwhile chopping wood. He smiled, watching her walk away, he felt a new feeling overwhelm him, acceptance. But even Tobias had realised that acceptance was only the first step of actually defeating the so called ‘enemy’. He needed to lead them all; it was his entire fault, his problem, so he would be the one to resolve it.

No one had really slept any of the nights they had been in Norway yet that night was the first they didn’t lay in bed, keeping silent that night they found themselves sat around the fire, making small talk and this time, they were joined by Autumn.

“I told you. I want to make everything right, it sounds so cliché and I know you probably don’t believe me but I want to pledge my allegiance to Bellissimi Dragons, and have done for a long time. Tobias will most likely tell stories of me which make me seem devious and malicious but really I was just lost and looking for somewhere to go, so I sought for someone who could take me in. I’m not even a rebel!” She whispered, wiping away tears.

One word rung through the air like a bell in a vacuum for Ombra. ‘Sought’. It was the exact same word that Tobias had used. Sure it could have been a coincidence but would someone of their low intellect choose such a word. Ombra wasn’t sure what he was trying to deduce but to him, it seemed a little to rehearsed on both their parts.

"How did he find out?" Alicia asked Noah in a hushed tone. He shrugged, genuinely confused and unsure.

" I have no idea. But we have to let Sebastian know." Noah said through gritted teeth. "Not right now though. That just gives him an excuse to be right about us coming here,"

"Maybe he was right?" Alicia pushed. Noah looked at his friend with distaste.

"No." He said simply. He couldn't give Sebastian Dawes the satisfaction of being right after ruining his friendship with Alec, no he wouldn't let that happen.

In a near by tree, Alec sat on a high branch, the leaves concealing his figure. He looked down at a small picture that he grasped within his hands. A picture of his mother, Celeste. She had the same dark brown hair, that seemed to fall perfectly at all times and chocolate toned eyes that complimented the same tanned skin. A 'father' shaped figure had been cut from the picture messily, from scissors placed in a shaking hand. He looked up at the sky, suppressing the tears that were welling within his eyes. He placed the picture to his chest.

"Hey, loner" Xyla smiled, climbing beside him. "How are you?"

He coughed, rubbing his eyes and clearing his throat.

"Quite adequate." He sighed, shoving the picture into his pocket, leaning back into the tree. " Having fun down there?"

"Oh yeah sitting around in the cold wasting away the early hours of the morning... We are living the life,"  she laughed.

"Don't make me jealous miss Leonardo!" He smirked, jumping down from the tree." You coming or what?" She rolled her eyes at him, leaping down to the ground, to hold his hand. They strolled back over to the fire, sitting beside Ombra.e ever growing tension.

" So tell me about your life," Serge pushed, curious and unsure of Autumn's motives.

"Well. My father is a business man, very successful, very well off, regular at Harrods. My mother; a house keeper, Tobias' housekeeper. My parents don't see much of each other, it's very hushed, we live an enclosed life."

"Privileged more liked," Ombra muttered between each fake cough. Autumn ignored his comment and carried on to gloat further about her high and mighty lifestyle. This left Ombra's mind to wander once again. Her mother was his house keeper. It all seemed to much of a coincidence but he left his thoughts to rest. He couldn't just...get rid of them, however much he wanted but it could mean he was right about being weary around the likes of Tobias North.

The early morning dragged on once again, a blur of pointless small talk distracting them all from what they knew as the problem. Noah and Alec steered clear of each others burning gaze and turned their attention to something else.

" I can't remember the last time I've been this tired," Scar complained, resting her head on Miles' knee, her legs propped up onto the fallen tree.

"I know. It's been an eventful...month.." Miles sighed. He couldn't believe how long it had been since he was sat in an English classroom studying. It felt like a distant memory now and he supposed it was. He was lucky. He had enough wealth to let him forget about education, which was a lot more than could be said for many endangered Dragons.

The sun rose quickly and brightened the already blinding white snow. They all sat silently inside of the entrance hall. The doors swung open, with that Tobias swanned into the room laying the Map on the floor.

"Well?" Serge asked.

" I've found the Ice lance. I know exactly where it is." Tobias laughed with relief. Alicia walked up beside him, smiling at him. " we have to pack everything up. Once we have the Lance. Were in severe danger"

Everyone stood from their crouching positions, looking at each other. Xyla grasped hold of Alec's hand tightly. He smiled back at her before returning to his room to pack. Miles and the others wandered off to do there own packing leaving Scar and her brother, Ombra together. They sat beside each other.

" I'm scared." Scar whispered to him, placing her head in her hands. He placed his hand on her back.

" I'm scared too. But we are going to be fine, we are going to get the cure for Serge, and you are going to be fine." He smiled.

“But Serge seems even worse these days. He barely talks. He barely even glances up to look at us anymore Ombra. I’m really scared for him” She sighed, rubbing her hands together slightly.

“We’re going to be fine.” He repeated, trying to re-convince himself.
