Chapter Eleven: If we get out (Katie)

His lips crashed to mine, and I did start to forget. And start to think more about him.

And him I did. The kiss lasted just a tad longer.

When we separated, I looked up at him.

"What was that?" I asked.

He smiled at me. "That was whatever you want it to be."

What did he mean by that? I thought as I looked away.

Does he actually like me? Or was it just to make me forget?

"Josh-" I had started but was cut off by a loud rumbling noise. My eyes shot right back up towards him. I'm sure my eyes said it all. That I was scared. I really was and I could tell he was too. Maybe not as bad as me, but he was.

A few seconds later it had stopped. Then started again.

What is that? I thought.

"What is that?" Josh asked.

Like I know what it is. "I don't know." I answered.

Though now that we're listing to it, it kind of sounds like machinery.

I smiled. Are they trying to get us out now? I hope so.

"Do you think that they're trying to get us out?" I asked.

"I think so. Well I hope so. That's what it sounds like at least."

I nodded in agreement.

Time passed as we waited for them to finally get to us. But it never happened.

Did they get to a point where they had to stop? Did they give up? Is there something blocking them from getting us? These were the questions going on through my head. Wonder what Josh is thinking?

“Hey Katie?”

“Yeah?” I answered. Wonder what he wants?

“Never mind.”

Huh? What was that about?

“What were you gonna say?” I asked him.

“Nothing. It’s nothing. Just leave it.”

What is going on with him? Why does he not want to say whatever he was going to say? But I don’t want to leave it. I want to know. And know I will. Just maybe I’ll give him a few a minutes or so.

“Josh?” I asked a few minutes later.

“What?” He answered.

“When do you think that they’ll come back?”

“I don’t know. It has been awhile hasn’t it?”

“Yup.” I nodded.

“About earlier… what happened Josh?” I asked.

I heard him sigh, so I looked up over at him. He stared down at me and shook his head.

I gave him a puzzled look. He sighed again, then answered me.

“I. Well. It. Ugh….” He shook his head.

“Josh… what’s wrong?” I said now sitting up. I was laying on his legs as a pillow, and he looked upside down to me every time I looked at him. But now I wasn’t.

“I like you alright. This weird situation we got ourselves in was a good thing. But look at us. We’re stuck in here. Been stuck in here. They’re probably trying to get us out. But what if they can’t? That’s all I’ve been thinking about. You and us not being able to get out. What if we can’t get out?”

It was my turn to sigh. That has been going through my mind too. But I never wanted to think about it. ‘Cause I know, I would start freaking out if I did. And that I really don’t want to happen. Hell, I’m sure we both don’t want to happen. Wait, did he say that he liked me? And can’t stop thinking about me? I smiled.

“You like me?” I asked.

I saw a small smile come upon his face. “Yeah.”

I smiled.

“Don’t you think the kiss kind of gave it away?” He asked.

“Well yeah, but then you said that it meant what I wanted.”

“True, I did.”

“What if we can’t get out?”

“Umm… I don’t know. I’ve been thinking that too. And I don’t want to, but I have and I don’t know what to do. I mean, we’ll most likely die in here and that would be horrible. Megan would go insane if I didn’t get out. Hell, she’s probably freaking out as I speak. All alone and no one to help her out. Not like me, were as I have you. And I know she wouldn’t be able to continue on if I die. I’m her life. When our parents died, she vowed to take care of me. And I le-“ Josh kissed me again.

“What was that for?” I asked when we parted.

“You started to ramble.” He stated.

I rolled my eyes at him.

“What if I was going to say something important?” I asked.

“I think you already did. That we’ll mostly die in here if they don’t get us out. And that your sister is freaking out that you’re in here. I think that covers it.”

“Yeah, but what if I was going to say something else?” I said crossing my arms.

“Then what were you going to add?”

“I, well, I don’t remember.”

“Mustn’t have been that important.”

I glared at him.

“Don’t look at me like that.”

“Like what? This?” I said still glaring at him.

“Yes. Like that. I didn’t do anything to make you glare at me.”

I sighed. I guess he was right. I was just mostly frustrated.

“Did we just have our first fight?” I asked.

I watched as realization dawned on him and he started to laugh.

Watching closely, he eventually nodded. “I guess we did.”

So does that mean that we are together? I doubt it. I mean all we did was kiss a few times. And that doesn’t count as being together.

Oh my…… what would Megan think of this? She hated the last guy I was with.

What would she think of this? I mean he’s famous. He’s a freaking actor! I bet she would go ballistic if she found out. So does that mean that we can’t be together? Or should I just defy Megan and do it anyways? Well, if there is an ‘us’.

Maybe we could hide it from her? You know just make her think that we are good friends ‘cause we were stuck in an elevator together.

Oh. What about the paparazzi? I never thought about that. What would happen with that? Will they be there/here when we get out? If we get out.

“What you thinking about?” Josh said taking me out of my thoughts.

“Oh, uh. Just stuff.” I mumbled.

“Right.” He said staring at me.

“What I was. Lots of stuff actually.”

“And what were they?”

I sighed.

“It was about us. Us getting out. Megan. Lots of cameras. People with cameras. Defying orders.

The past. Like I said lots of stuff.”

“Wow. I guess you were right.”

“Uh huh.”

“Your bleeding.”

“What?” I said confused.

“You’re side. It’s bleeding again.” He said pointing towards my side.

I groaned. “Not again. How bad is it?”

“Not bad.”

“Then why did you point it out? We both know that it keeps doing it. And you don’t think I know?

‘Cause I know.”

“Oh I know. I was just distracting you from what is going on.” He said.

“What do you mean what’s going on?”

“Really, Katie? You can’t hear them?”

“Oh. I can. Does that mean there getting closer to us?”

“Maybe?” He said shrugging his shoulders.

As I listened, the noise got louder and louder. I scooted myself over towards him. Back up against the wall, and laid my head on his shoulder.

I started to fiddle with my hands in my lap when I felt his hand grab mine.

“Hello? Anyone there? Can you hear me? Are you hurt?” We heard someone calling to us.

Josh looked over at me, and I smiled back at him.

We were going to get out.

“Yes, we’re in here.” Josh called out to the guy.

“Alright. Now listen here. There will be a few things we need to do first to get you out. How many are there in there with you?”

“Okay. One extra.”

“Good, good. I presume you are Josh and a Katie is with you, am I correct?”

“Alright. We’re going to get you out. Now if you could please move to the back wall of the elevator. Sit as close as possible. Or if you can stand that would be nice. We are going to work on the front.”

At that we started to hear the machines start up.

When Josh stood up, he tried to help me. But as soon as I stood up, the pain came back and I knew that my side had ripped again. This is not good. I slightly screamed in pain when I stood up. Not sure if the men out there heard me or not. My scream probably got drowned out by the noises.

Josh helped me over to the other side and he wrapped his arms around me to keep me stable. I’m sure that if he let go I would fall. I feel soo woozy now. I laid my head on his chest, and closed my eyes.

The noises got louder and louder. I tried to ignore them, but it wasn’t working. All I could hear was the noise. A sharp loud metal noise. Metal cutting metal. The screeching was horrible. But it continued, and only ever stopped every now and then. But it would start right back up a bit later.

They were trying everything they could to get us out. I knew they were, but I don’t think I can stand much longer.

“Katie.” I heard Josh call to me when one of the machines stopped.

“Hmm.” I mumbled in his chest.

“Katie?” He called again.

I lifted my head up to look at him, but closed my eyes a second later. I felt too weak to even look up at him.

I heard talking a minute later. I didn’t recognize the voice. But I heard Josh responding to it. I don’t know that they were saying. But I soon felt him move.

A hand came and touched my shoulder. A different hand. I could still both of Josh’s. What’s going on?

“Josh?” I said weakly.

“Katie. Hey, they’re here to get us out okay. Go with this guy.” He said passing me over to him.

I felt myself getting passed to the other guy. After, it felt like he strapped me into something. What I don’t know. But he did. A minute later, I felt a few people around me. People talking everywhere. I peeked my eyes open and tried to focus on what was happening around me.

I was no longer in the elevator. There was paramedic people talking to me, but I ignored them. I wanted to find Megan.

My eyes landed on her just as they were loading me into the ambulance. I saw her struggling to get past a few people to get to me. But that was all I saw before I couldn’t see her anymore.
