5. Jason

I went through to the bedroom and continued to the bathroom that was attached to it. I decided to take a shower, before dealing with the horror that was sure to happen. I washed my hair again so that it would sit nicely down my back for my date.

I blow-dried my hair and combed through it. It sat dead straight, hanging limply down to my waist. I reached over and grabbed my curling iron, and with a careful touch, shaped my hair with it so that it had volume and ended in tight ringlets a couple centimeters off my hips.

With my towel still clutched under my arms, I continued to my cupboard, flinging the doors open. With a particular dress in mind, I dug through the wardrobe, hand searching. I picked out my black cocktail dress, sleeveless on one side and a wrist length sleeve on the other arm. It was low-cut and tight-fitting, and it stopped at mid thigh, clinging to my legs.

Slipping it on carefully over my head, as to not damage my hair style, I walked to my full length mirror to survey myself. I then padded barefoot to the bathroom once more to put on some makeup.

Putting on black eyeliner, mascara and using colours to create a smoky-eye effect, I finished my makeup and glanced in the mirror. The overall effect was quite pleasing. Checking the time, I realized that Louis would be here any minute.

I ran back into the room and fumbled for my black clutch purse, stuffing my phone into it. I grabbed my 6 inch black stilettos and slipped my feet into them. At that moment the doorbell rang. Picking up my purse from the bed, I walked towards the door, opening it to find Louis standing there, leaning against the door.

“You look amazing,” He said quietly. He was dressed in a black suit, with a black blazer and a white shirt, paired with a black tie. We matched.

“Thank you,” I said. “So do you.” He held his hand out towards me, an unspoken invitation to take it. I put my hand in his and walked down the step the lead off my flat. We walked across the gravel pathway to a sleek, black car.

He opened my door for me, gesturing with his hand to get in and I slid easily into his leather seated car. It smelt like him. He got in and we reversed out of the gate.

We drove for about 10 minutes, before arriving at a very fancy-looking restaurant, where he got out of the car and held open the door for me to get out as well. He helped me out with his hand, while with the other one he threw the keys at the valet.

We walked into the very posh restaurant, where he gave his last name to the lady behind the reception desk and she showed us to our table near the back of the restaurant. When we had sat down and a waiter had given us our menus, Louis leaned over to me. “I meant what I said; you do look very beautiful tonight.” He murmured. “You clean up well.” He said with a wink.

“Thank you,” I laughed. “Were you expecting me to come in my pajamas or something?”

He just laughed. We ordered food and talked about everything and nothing. At the end of the night, once the bill had been taken care of and I had stood up, Louis picked up his blazer to put it on. Sometime during the night, a waiter had come around and lit candles on all of the tables. Louis had stood up and picked up his blazer in order to put it on, when he knocked over his glass of wine that fell into the candle, spilling them both onto the table.

The flame licked up the wine, making the table cloth catch on fire. Louis took his napkin and tried to beat out the flames, but they were too big. A waiter appeared behind me with a fire extinguisher and sprayed the foam onto the flames.

I, getting a fright from the whole thing, stumbled backwards in my stilettos and fell straight into an unknown guy, who caught me as if we were dancing. Louis was laughing so hard that the tears were running down his face, and I started giggling as well. I looked up into the face of the mystery man that had caught me, finding myself staring straight at Jason. Shit.

I struggled to get back on my feet and steady myself. “Jason,” I mumbled, not making eye contact and looking at the floor. All of a sudden Louis was at my side, an arm around my waist, as if he could tell that I was about to lose all control, his arm like an anchor, keeping me sane. “Louis, this is Jason, my ex.” I said, cringing subconsciously into him.

“Nice to meet you,” Louis said stiffly. Suddenly a very pretty girl appeared at his side, with short brown hair, large brown eyes and a very short dress on. So this was the girl he cheated with.

“Um,” Jason said, his eyes locked on Louis’ arm that was around my waist. “This- This is Stella.” The girl stared at me, giving me all the confirmation that I needed that this was her. I gave her a warm smile, trying not to let my true emotions shine through. “Who is that?” Jason said rudely to me, indicating towards Louis.

“This is Louis. My Date.” I spat at him. “But that is none of your concern anymore, is it?” I glared at Stella. “You gave that up when you decided to have fun with Stella over here, didn’t you?”

He took a couple steps towards me. “How dare you speak to me like that?” He growled. He grabbed my wrist, his finger marks I knew would be bruises later.

“You don’t own me Jason, You never did and you never will!” I said, trying to wrench my arm from his grasp, but he pulled me closer to him.

“Well, we have gotten brave, haven’t we?” He smirked. “I can do anything I want to you, because you can’t stop me. Remember last time Kitten?” He said, using his old nickname for me maliciously. I shivered. “I-”

There was the sound of flesh hitting something solid. Louis had punched Jason in the stomach. He fell on his knees and Louis looked down at him. “You won’t touch her again.” He said. His hand came around my waist, pulling me back to him. “Let’s go,” He whispered in my ear.

Tears filling me eyes, he guided me out of the room and outside into the cold air. He fumbled in his blazer, looking for a tissue and when he found it he wiped carefully under my eyes. “Shhh now, it’s alright, he’s not here, and I’ve got you.” His hands came to rest of my hips as he knelt in front of me.

“I’m sorry,” I said, gaining control of myself again. “That was my ex.” I sniffed.

“I guessed.” There was a pause. “Did you ever tell anyone he abused you?” He asked, peering into my eyes.

“No.” I said, then feeling the need to explain myself I continued. “I know, I should have, but I loved him, he would have gone to jail and I was blinded by my stupid irrational love for him so I didn’t see how far things had gone. I couldn’t bring myself to tell, he would have gone to jail. But I should have and I see that now.” I babbled. Tears filled my eyes again. “I’m so stupid.”

“No, no you’re not. I understand. Calm down,” He looked up into my eyes and caught a stray tear with his thumb. “Breathe. Right. I’m going to take you home and you are going to get some sleep, alright?” I nodded and he stood up. “Come here.” He folded me into his embrace, my head resting on his chest.

We walked back to the car, his hand around my waist again, guiding me. Once we got back to my flat, he caught my hand. “Listen to me,” He said. “I need to ask you something.” I nodded for him to continue. “Will you…. Be my girlfriend?” He asked.

“Yes,” I whispered, flinging myself into his arms. I pulled away from his shoulder, my arms around his neck, his on my waist. He bent down, his lips inches from mine.

“May I?” He whispered. I nodded. Our lips met with an explosion like fireworks, both of them moving in a dance as old as time itself. It was sweet but passionate, and the perfect first kiss to end the night.

He pulled back and looked into my eyes. “Don’t you worry. I will take care of you sweetheart. He will never touch you again.”

“Thank you, for everything.” I managed, before kissing him once more and walking into my flat to go to bed.
