3. Chapter Two:

Numb.

That's all I felt as my eyes opened to a pale blue ceiling and a low beeping sound made it's way to my ears.

My head was firmly in place and I couldn't see anything except the ceiling. I breathed deeply and I smelt the sickly scent of blood roaming the air.

'Karly?' I called out to my wolf, trying to figure out what happened and where I was.

I got no response but a pathetic whimper.

"Hello?" I shakily called out. I immediately heard a door open and a sob come loose from someones mouth.

"Lucy!" I head a voice squeal as loud footsteps made their way towards me.

"Who are you? Where am I?" I asked timidly as a pale face with black hair peered into my eyes.

"Lucy... You're in the hospital. Remember? Aiden's car blew up?" The girl spoke slowly. Shivers ran up and down my arms as soon as she said Aiden.

"Who's Aiden?" I asked. She stiffened.

"He... Well... Lucy he was your mate."

Was. The memories flooded back to me like a river and tears unconsciously pricked at my eyes.

"I'll go get the doctor." She replied, looking down at me with pity. I heard the door close and a strangled sob erupted from me.

Dead. The words chanted in my head repeatedly and more tears fell from my eyes.

'Aiden's wolf contacted me before... you know... and he said that you were beautiful.' Karly spoke painstakingly slow.

'We were so close!' I screamed back in frustration.

For as long as I could remember, I had wanted a mate. Someone to be there for me, someone to love me.

But now all of my chances were gone.

And so was he.

A knock came from the door and two unfamiliar scents filled the room. I could instantly tell that they were werewolves buy the sharp woodsy scent they both emitted.

"How are you feeling Luna?" A low voice asked, coming into view above my head.

"It's Lucy." I replied, feeling my eyes droop and my wet eyelashes caress my cheeks.

"It's Luna now. You were the Alpha's mate." Another, slightly snappy voice replied.

My heart skipped a beat. He was an Alpha? I have a pack?

Maybe I won't be so alone after all. I felt Karly growl with pride at our new title.

"I'm fine." I replied after a few minutes. One of them scoffed.

"If fine meant terrible I would believe you." The snappy one replied.

I fell silent. I did feel terrible. My numb heart and mind blocked out the pain though. But the images of Aiden's green eyes would forever be cemented into my brain.

"Leave me." I ordered.

"Good going Will." The nicer doctor snarled.

The door slammed close.

As I was alone.

Again.

I stared at the ceiling for what felt like hours, waiting for Aiyana to come back.

Karly lay idly in my mind, once in a while howling with pain.

The door creaked open once again. "Lucy?" My mothers familiar warm voice filled the room.

"Mom." I said, sighing in relief.

"Oh honey, everything will be ok." She said, walking up to my bed and wiping the dry tears off of my face.

"What happened to me mom?" I asked suddenly.

"You got a concussion. Karly healed your broken arm, but she wasn't feeling up to much after that." My mom replied sadly.

"Mom... What am I going to do? I have a pack now, I'm a Luna!" I exclaimed. She sighed.

"When the time comes, you'll make your choice on whether or not you want to go to his pack." She said softly.

"Ok. Do you think I could get some sleep now?" I asked. My mom chuckled.

"Whatever you want."

And then I was out.
