8. The Immortal One. 8

Chapter 8;

*Scar's POV*

Officially one month since my first night at Red Field. It had gone so quickly. I'd settled in really well, I had friends and my behavior and attitude have improved a lot. Harry and I have gotten closer and closer each day. I still get those occasional 'what are you doing with him?' Looks but I shrug them off. Harry's not a bad person, he's really great. Tonight as a celebration, Harry had planned a picnik by the river where we had our first 'real' meeting. We had planned to meet at 6:30 sharp. It was now 6 so only half an hour to get ready. Dinner was served at 6:30 so it was perfect timing. Diana was still a bit funny about Harry. She would always tense up at his name. I always asked what was wrong but I always got the same reply from her "he's dangerous. Stay away from him." I didn't think I was very wise to tell her where I was going tonight. I had gotten ready for dinner, make-up, hair, decent clothes etc. but told Diana that I wasn't feeling too good. She left the dorm and I soon left too, heading towards the river. The sky was dark but the moon lit it up, the water once again glimmered as the moonlight hit it. A picnik blanket was set up on the sand. Candles were lit all around the blanket and right in the middle was a picnik basket full of food. But there was one thing missing. Harry. Where was he? A few minutes had passed when I heard russling in the trees above. A few leaves fell and so did Harry well he didn't fall he somehow seemed to almost... Float down. "Congratulations!!" He yelled walking towards me and throwing his arms around my waist for a hug. Mine found their way to his neck. We stayed like this for a while. I knew he didn't want to let go as much as I did. A few more seconds and we both pulled away. "Thanks Harry!!" I smiled and walked around him towards the blanket. "This is beautiful! I can't believe you went through this much trouble for me." I turned around and he was standing with a vibrant red rose in his hands. "It was no trouble. Happy to do it." He smiled and handed me the rose kissing my cheek lightly. I giggled slightly at how far he had to dip down to do that. I was just above his shoulder height, which isn't too bad. We sat on the mat in sync smiling. He pulled a bottle of grape juice from the basket along with 2 glasses. "Non alcoholic of course." I smiled at the gesture. He handed me a glass and put the bottle back in the basket. "So. First month is over and done with. How's it feel to be an official Red Field student?" He nudged me slightly, careful to not spill my drink. "Surprisingly not too bad actually. It's gone really quickly. I've settled in well." I smiled. "That's good!!" We sat in silence for a moment or two. The breeze had picked up a bit blowing out the candles. The corners of the blanket not held down by anything kept flying up, our hair was going crazy and my shirt kept creeping up. Eventually it stopped and everything was still. We looked at the mess of leaves around up and then we look at us. We both fell into hysterical laughter lying on the mat facing each other, only inches apart. I looked deep into his eyes. They shone bright as usual. The corners of his lips curled up into a smile. I couldn't help but smile back. I trusted Harry. I really did. I drew in a deep breath. "Just over 12 months ago... My brother Tom was killed in a car accident. He was older than me, but it seemed like we were twins. We did everything together. Told each other everything. We were inseparable. He was my best friend. We had just gone out for dinner with our parents and the plan was to walk to the cinema down the street from the restuarant after we finished, but Tom and I didn't like the movie my parents chose so I begged them to let us drive to the local ice cream parlour and video store so we could go home and watch one. After some convincing they complied and handed Tom the keys. Mum and Dad still went to the movies though. At an intersection, a drunk driver came out of no where and hit us head on. Tom was killed on impact instantly. I was in the hospital for a few weeks. Once I had learned that I was never going to see my brother again, things went from bad to worse. I dropped out of school, started to drink, did things I regret. I was in a bad place. I was arrested a few times aswell. Everyone thought that me coming here would be for the best. My parents were scared. I hate myself for what I did. All the Payne I cause everyone, all the grief." Tears were brimming my eyes. A few dropped down my cheecks. Harry pulled me close to him. He said nothing. He just stroked the side of my face, wiping away the tears. I felt safe in his arms. I wanted him to tell me everything was going to be okay and that it wasn't my fault, but I knew it wasn't true.
