6. Thinking

Merida had run back to the castle just in time for dinner, which ruled out any suspicions of her where a bouts. Taking her seat amongst her parents Merida began filling her plate with everything but the haggis. Vile sheep's stomach, Merida thought. As she began eating she noticed something very particular. There was no noise. Not even the boys who love to be loud rude and always laughing.

"Soo, how was your day?" Merida offered.

Nothing.

"I had a lovely time shootin' arrows, Angus had a nice run as well."

Silence.

"Alright what is goin on here!" Merida shouted rattling the silverware.

"Merida! Please, now is not the time for your behavior." Queen Elinor said impatiently.

"Aye, then whats wrong with everyone?"

"We are just......stressed lass." her mother said uneasily.

Merida shook her head and finished her meal. After excusing herself she left to her room and sat on her bed. She looked out of her small window and saw the kingdom was falling asleep; it was almost completely dark. She lay there staring at the ceiling and pondered her thoughts. She began to miss Wee Dingwall, but knew he'd be returning soon. Then her mind thought about Hiccup. He was handsome and kind and true, but he was a viking! Her parents would never approve and even by some wisp of a miracle they did; could he ever feel the same? No, the answer was no. He was betrothed to her cousin and there would be nothing she could do about it.  Merida groaned and turned to blow out her candle. Why was she evening thinking about this? It wasn't like she was in love with Hiccup, they'd barely met, but she hadn't loved Wee Dingwall until they were betrothed. Or did she still not love him?

"Arrggh!" Merida sighed blew out her candle and went to sleep.
