Rejection (A Drapple Fanfic)

Broken-hearted and alone, Draco has been turned down by the girl he asked to the Yule Ball. He turns to apple for comfort, and finds everything he ever hoped for from a true love, however, he doesn't know how people will react to his new relationship...

6. Decided

Draco was distraught. He had truly believed that Apple would make him happy, but he now knew better than to trust someone he'd only known for a day. And he'd saved her life by taking her from the dinner table! You'd think she'd be more grateful.

Halfway through the day, he discovered a folded piece of paper in his robe. Once unfolded, he remembered that it was the note from Pansy he had got at breakfast. The apple incident had put it out of his mind. He read the note again, realising that the only thing that had been stopping him from saying yes was Apple, but now... He wanted to go to the Yule Ball with Pansy. In fact, as he scribbled a quick response in Potions, he felt a fluttering of excitement in his heart.

At lunch, he uttered a simple charm that sent his reply fluttering down the table to Pansy, who, after reading the note, looked at him and grinned, her expression one of relief. Draco started to feel the pain fade slightly; after all, the day he spent loving Apple was nothing compared to the years he devoted to loving Pansy. His life was back on track after a 24 hour diversion.

At least, that was what Draco told himself as he tried to think of all the good things about going with Pansy. He wouldn't actually have been able to go with Apple, he would be teased ceaselessly about it, and perhaps been sent to the infirmary. With Pansy, he could dance with her without looking really strange, and they could have an open, public relationship. He was better off this way.

Draco was distracted. He couldn't concentrate in Defense Against the Dark Arts, which was a massive problem, because Professor Moody didn't like him as it was, without him daydreaming in lessons. Still, he got off without a detention, and only a slightly singed sleeve.

After lessons were over for the day, Draco ambled upstairs to the common room, where he sat in front of the fire and gazed into the flames, nervous about how to act around Pansy now. It was a whole month until the Yule Ball, and she would surely expect him to talk to her between now and then. Girls are so complicated, he thought.
