Safe And Sound (Triquel to Red)

"Elizabeth Ashton was more that just a girl to me. She was my best friend, she was the love of my life, she was my light. Since the day I met her when we were 5 years old there hasn't been a single day that I didn't love her. Without her, I wouldn't be the man I am today. She taught me so many things. She taught me to never give up on myself and to never let anyone tell me who I am, who I want to be. She taught me to believe in myself even when no one else did. Through the 15 years that I knew her, just the thought of her made me smile. Now I can't help but look back on all of the memories we made. The pillow fights, the sleep overs, the ghost stories. She made me happier than anyone else ever could. She put a smile on my face even when I was on the verge of tears and she always knew what to say. So much of the world knows Elizabeth Ashton as the girl who broke free from her past and created a future...

56. The Girl

***Liam’s POV***

Hours later I pulled into the driveway of my parent’s house and looked over at Beth who was still asleep. It was around 10:00 pm so it was dark and not to mention snowing quite hard. Quietly, I got out of the car and went to the other side. I opened Beth’s door. I took her into my arms, careful not to wake her. I closed her door and walked up the front steps, being extra careful of the icy spots. Once I reached the front door I pushed it open.

“Mum?! Dad?!” I called qietly.

My mum came out of the living room, a smile on her face. I held a finger to my lips.

“I’ll be right back. I’m going to put her upstairs.” I whispered.

She nodded and I walked up the stairs to my room. I pushed open the door and noticed my mum had done a bit of cleaning. I laid Beth down on my bed and slipped off her shoes, sweatpants and jacket. I tucked her under the covers and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

“I love you.” I whispered before walking out of my room.

As soon as I walked out I ran into Ruth.

“Hey, nice to see you.” She smiled, hugging me.

“You too. How’ve you been?” I asked her, walking down the stairs with her.

“Fine. How’s the wedding planning going?” She asked.

“Great. We’ve hired a wedding planner and it’s a lot easier.”

As soon as we walked into the living room my mum and dad pulled me into a hug.

“Its good to see you.” My mum smiled.

“Yeah.” I smiled. “Beth will be happy to see all of you in the morning.”

“We can’t tell you how happy we are that you two are engaged. Liam honey, from the moment you came home that day telling me you had become friends with this amazing girl I knew there was something special about here. I hadn’t even met the girl yet and I already loved her. It brings tears to my eyes to see you engaged to her eighteen years later.” My mum smiled.

“Well she makes me happy. She makes me very happy and I am honestly the luckiest guy on earth to have her.” I smiled.

“I can finally call her my sister.” Ruth smiled.

I nodded. “You her and Nic have always acted like sisters. Where is Nicola anyway?”

“She’ll be here tomorrow. She’s bringing her boyfriend.” Ruth told me.

“Boyfriend?” I asked, raising my eyebrows.

“Yeah, I mean she doesn’t want to let the youngest sibling completely win.” Ruth smirked.

“Oh you’re just jealous that I’m the youngest and I’m getting married first.” I told her.

“In your dreams.” She snorted.

I looked at my parents who were just smirking at us.

“You two are in your twenties and still act like kids.” My mum smiled.

“You too now? The lads won’t stop teasing me about acting like a kid with Beth because they decided to show up at mine and Beth’s house while we were in the middle of a pillow fight.” I groaned.

“You’re 23 and 24 and still having pillow fights? Aw how cute.” Ruth gushed.

“Don’t you start too.” I told her. “So who else is coming and is anyone else here yet?”

“Grandma and grandpa are here. Aunt Marie and Uncle Jack are coming tomorrow with Luke and Nick.” Ruth told me.

I looked at my dad. “So dad, I have been meaning to ask you… since Beth’s dad almost killed her and to be honest I might kill him if he gets near her, would you walk Beth down the aisle?” I asked.

I had never seen my dad beam like he was now. “Liam, I would love nothing better than to walk Beth down the aisle. As long as its okay with her.”

“That horrid man isn’t coming to the wedding is he?” My mum asked.

“Even if Beth insisted, I would never allow it. He may be her father but what he did to her, I will never forgive him.” I said coldly.

I heard my mum sigh. “I wonder what things would be like if Evelyn were still alive. Her mother was an amazing woman and she wouldn’t be happier to see you marrying Beth.”

“Yeah well she was one of the few people who knew I loved her before I actually told her. She figured it out.” I told her.

“She is missed by many.” My mum sighed.

I nodded slowly. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 11:16.

“Well I think I’m going to go to bed. Goodnight.” I said.

“Goodnight honey.” My mum said.

I walked upstairs and into my room. After slipping off my shirt and pants I slid into bed next to Beth who immediately snuggled up to me.

“Liam.” She mumbled sleepily.

“Hm?” I whispered.

“I love you.” She muttered, half awake.

I kissed her temple and pulled her close to me.

“I love you too Beth. I love you too.” I whispered.

I rested my head next to hers and she immediately buried her face in my neck. For a while I just lay there and listened to the sound of her soft breathing. I looked down at her and smiled. Beside me was the girl I would marry. The girl I would start a family with. The girl I would spend the rest of my life with. The girl whom I loved more than everything. The girl who stole my heart.
