Safe And Sound (Triquel to Red)

"Elizabeth Ashton was more that just a girl to me. She was my best friend, she was the love of my life, she was my light. Since the day I met her when we were 5 years old there hasn't been a single day that I didn't love her. Without her, I wouldn't be the man I am today. She taught me so many things. She taught me to never give up on myself and to never let anyone tell me who I am, who I want to be. She taught me to believe in myself even when no one else did. Through the 15 years that I knew her, just the thought of her made me smile. Now I can't help but look back on all of the memories we made. The pillow fights, the sleep overs, the ghost stories. She made me happier than anyone else ever could. She put a smile on my face even when I was on the verge of tears and she always knew what to say. So much of the world knows Elizabeth Ashton as the girl who broke free from her past and created a future...

30. Stars

***Beth's POV***

"How long are you here for?" I asked Liam as we lay on the couch in the lounge.

"Only two days. So today and tomorrow and we leave the day after that." He told me.

I sighed. "Well we can enjoy it while it lasts. Then four more months of not seeing you." I sighed.

He kissed my temple softly. "Hey, we'll get through this okay?"

I nodded my head and snuggled closer to him. He and I were the only ones on the bus right now. Everyone else thought it would be nice to let us have the bus to ourselves. Who knows what they think we're doing. Mine and Liam's fingers were intertwined and he would occasionally rub the back of my hand with his thumb.

"I want to take you somewhere. Since you don't have a concert tonight I'm going to take advantage of that. You and I haven't been on a proper date in a really really long time." He told me.

I looked up at him with a smile. "What do you have in mind?"

"You'll see. Go get dressed in something fancy. I'll meet you back here in 20 minutes." He told me.

We got up and he kissed me softly.

"See you in 20 minutes." I mumbled against his lips.

He grinned and walked off the bus. I walked back to my bunk and sorted through my dresses until I found a black and white one. I slipped it on and started looking through my shoes. After I found the rest of my outfit I walked into the bathroom and quickly curled my hair and did my makeup. Once I was done I walked out to the lounge. Only moments later Liam walked on to the bus in a suit. A grin spread across his face when he saw me.

"You look absolutely amazing." He told me.

"Thank you." I smiled.

He took my had and together we walked off the bus. He and I walked over to the car and got in.

"So, are you going to tell me where we're going?" I asked.

He shook his head. "Now why would I ruin the surprise."

"Let me guess, you've been planning this all day." I smirked.

"You know me too well." He told me.

We rode in silence and I looked out the window and watched cars pass  by. Finally Liam pulled into a restaurant and we got out and walked in.

"Reservation for Payne." Liam told the woman at the podium.

She looked in her reservation book for a moment and look back up at us with a smile.

"Follow me please." She smiled.

We followed her to a large circular booth and Liam and I slid in. She handed us our menus and we began looking over them.

"What are you going to get?" Liam asked.

I shrugged. "Pasta, maybe prime rib."

I finally decided on a small piece of prime rib. The waitress came back and took our orders.

"Um, I just wanted to say I love both of your music. Elizabeth, you're my role model and I think its amazing how you've been through so much and are still here today standing strong." The waitress told us before she left with out orders.

"Well thank you-" I looked at her name tag. "-Emma. That means a lot."

She nodded and walked off.

"You know, she's right." Liam told me.

"What?" I asked.

"She's right. It is incredible how you've been through so much and are still here today with a successful career and amazing fans and friends." He told me.

I rested my head on his shoulder and he slipped a arm around my waist.

"And an amazing boyfriend and best friend." I smiled.

He kissed me softly. "And an amazing boyfriend and best friend." He repeated.

Liam's phone buzzed in his pocket and he took it out.

"I forgot to tell the lads and Grace we were leaving. Grace thought fans had kidnapped you." Liam said, amused.

"Oh Grace, I love her but she's like a mum sometimes." I smiled.

"Isn't she only like 8 years older than you though?" Liam asked.

"Yeah, she's 30." I told him. "She's still like a mum to me."

I sighed. "You know what I hate?"

I looked up at Liam.

"Hm?" He asked.

"My mum will never get to see me get married. She won't get to be there to meet her grand kids." I sighed.

"Well my parents will always love you like their own daughter. Even if I don't end up marrying you, you'll always be a daughter to them. They love you and Ruth and Nicola love you like a sister." Liam told me.

"What about you?" I asked.

"What about me? Well I love you as a best friend, I love you as my girlfriend. I love you as you." He told me.

I smiled and snuggled closer to him.

"I'm going to miss this." Liam sighed. "I don't want to go back to my tour. I want to stay here with you."

I took my hand into his and intertwined our fingers.

"Four months. Only four months." I sighed.

He kissed my temple. "Four months too long."

Soon we saw the food coming so I sat up straight and the waitress set the food down in front of us. As Liam and I ate we talked about everything and anything. Once we were done we ordered desert. When that came we shared one piece of chocolate cake.

"If you think I'm going to let you pay, you're not." He said as soon as I reached for my clutch.

"Oh yes I am." I told him.

"Beth, I asked you on this date. I pay." He told me.

"So if I had asked you, I would get to pay?" I asked.

"No. I would still pay." He smiled as he took out his credit card.

I grabbed the card out of his hand and pulled out my own.

"And thats why I'm paying." I told him.

He tried to grab the the credit car our of my hand but was unsuccessful.

"I'm paying. End of story." I told him as I slipped the card into the little black folder.

The waitress came and took it before Liam could take the card away.

"You're going to pay for that." He told me.

"Already did." I grinned.

"You know what I mean." He groaned.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him softly.

"But you'll forgive me." I mumbled against his lips.

"Maybe. No promises though." He smirked.

The waitress came back with my credit card and I slipped it back into my clutch. Liam and I stood up and he took my hand and intertwined our fingers. We walked out of the restaurant and were immediately blinded by flashing lights.

"Shit. How did they find us." I groaned.

"They're stalkers. They know where we are every single second of the day." Liam sighed.

We pushed through the crowd as the paps yelled out questions.

"Liam, is it true that Elizabeth cheated on you?!"

"Is it true that you two are in a rough patch in your relationship?!"

"Elizabeth, is it true that you and Liam broke up just now?!"

Finally we were able to get away from the paps and began walking around hand in hand. The warm May atmosphere surrounded us and stars twinkled in the night sky. As we walked, Liam would squeeze my hand ever so often.

"You know what my favorite part of nighttime is?" I asked.

"The stars. I love how that twinkle and light up the sky. Without them the sky would be just a blank black nothingness." I said as we walked slowly.

Liam stopped walking and pulled me close to him. He wrapped his arms around my waist and I wrapped my arms around his neck.

"While the stars may twinkle and light up the night sky, you shine and light up my world. You are more beautiful than every single star shining up there. More amazing than the shooting stars." He whispered.

I looked up at him, his eyes shining in the moonlight.

"That is possibly one of the most perfect things anyone has ever said to me." I whispered.

He softly kissed my lips. When he pulled away he smiled.

"Well its the truth." He told me.

And in that moment I could have sworn we were infinite.
