Safe And Sound (Triquel to Red)

"Elizabeth Ashton was more that just a girl to me. She was my best friend, she was the love of my life, she was my light. Since the day I met her when we were 5 years old there hasn't been a single day that I didn't love her. Without her, I wouldn't be the man I am today. She taught me so many things. She taught me to never give up on myself and to never let anyone tell me who I am, who I want to be. She taught me to believe in myself even when no one else did. Through the 15 years that I knew her, just the thought of her made me smile. Now I can't help but look back on all of the memories we made. The pillow fights, the sleep overs, the ghost stories. She made me happier than anyone else ever could. She put a smile on my face even when I was on the verge of tears and she always knew what to say. So much of the world knows Elizabeth Ashton as the girl who broke free from her past and created a future...

14. Only A Dream

My eyes shot open and I was immediately blinded by bright lights around me. It took a while before my eyes adjusted to the light. My body ached and my head was pounding. I looked up at the ceiling and saw only white above my. Slowly I moved my sore neck and I looked around and saw light blue walls. As I looked closer at my surroundings I could see someone sitting in the corner of the room. Because of my blurred vision, I couldn't see their face. Slowly my eyes opened a little wider and I was able to see where I was.

"Beth?" A voice choked out. "

I slowly turned my head and saw the soft brown eyes and the brown hair.

"Oh my god. Beth." He choked out again.

He squeezed my hand tightly, tears in his eyes.

"L-Liam." I said weakly.

Liam hugged me tightly. "I thought you were dead. I thought you weren't going to make it."

"But... you hate me. You said you didn't love me and that I didn't matter to you anymore." I whispered, my throat burning with every word.

He stared at me. "Beth... where did you even get that from. I would never say that to you. Do you know how much I love you? How much you mean to me?"

"You told me that. I was gone... for two years and you changed." I whispered.

"You weren't gone for two years. It was only a dream. Don't worry." He told me softly, tears in his eyes.

"O-only a dream? It was just a dream?" I asked quietly.

He nodded. "Beth, you've been in the hospital for three months. You were in a coma. I- I thought I'd lost you." He choked out, a tear falling from his eye.

"Three months? What the hell happened?" I asked in my hoarse voice.

"Your father found you and he tried to kill you. He tried to take you. I fought him off but you were already out of it. By the time I got you here... you had already slipped away." He said, tears falling. "The doctor said you had a low chance of living."

"W-where is he now?" I asked.

"In a high security prison. The lads and girls and I testified against him in court and he lost. He got a life sentence... no bail. All because they found one thing when they did tests on you." He whispered.

"What did they find?" I asked him.

He looked at me, a single tear falling from his chocolate eyes. "They found evidence of rape Beth. Rape."

I could feel a ht tear trickle down my cheek, thinking about that memory. "Oh." I whispered.

"Oh? Beth, he hurt you. He touched you. He did stuff to you that was just so unforgivable and all you can say is oh? Why didn't you tell me?" He asked, tears falling like waterfalls from his eyes.

"I-I was afraid." I whispered.

"Afraid of what?" He asked.

"The memories. They haunted me. I can almost still feel his firm touch and hear his booming footsteps. He haunts me Liam." I mumbled.

He squeezed my hand. "He's gone for good this time." He whispered.

The door to my room opened and the rest of the boys entered the room followed by the girls.

"Hey hows Be-" Louis began until he saw me. "Holy shit. YOU'RE ALIVE. OH MY GOD. YOU'RE ALIVE."

Next thing I knew I was being engulfed in a hug by my best friends.

"I'm alive." I whispered, a small smile forming on my dry lips.

Finally when everyone pulled away I could see that they all had tears in their eyes.

"We thought you weren't going to make it." Niall said.

"Niall, I would never do that to any of you." I told him.

"The doctors told us that if you didn't wake up within a week that they would pull the plug. They didn't think you had a chance." El said, a tear slipping down her cheek.

"Well you can tell the doctors who told you that that they can go fuck themselves. Do I look dead to you?" I told them, a small smile on my face.

"Facebook status; Hey just woke up after three months in a coma, joke time!" Louis smiled.

I smiled. "Well I don't want my best friends to worry. Just know that if anything ever happens to me, I'll always come back for you."

Miranda came over to me and lightly slapped my arm. "That is for scaring us half to death." She engulfed me into a huge hug. "And this is for getting you back." She pulled away.

"You know, Liam literally hasn't left your side in three months. He hasn't left this room." Zayn told me.

My head whipped over to Liam. "What? Why Liam?"

"Because I was so afraid I was going to loose you. I also wanted to be there when you woke up." He smiled.

"You know Liam, this is why I love you. You just go out of your way to show how much you care even when I'm not conscious." I said.

"Thats because I love you no matter your state of consciousness." He told me.

"You two are adorable. I'm serious." Emily grinned.

"Shut up Em. You and Niall are pretty cute too." I told her.

She blushed and looked at Niall. "We are pretty cute aren't we?"

He grinned and nodded.

The doctor walked in and saw me awake. "Well, you must me a miracle. Mrs. Ashton, you had a quite low chance of living."

I looked around at my friends. "Well, I have too much to loose here. I could never let go when I have them. They're my family. They mean the world to me."

"I'll have you know that they came to visit you every single day since you were put in here. And him, "He said, gesturing towards Liam. "He's pretty much spent the last three months in that chair. You have incredibly friends."

"I really do don't I?" I smiled.
