Safe And Sound (Triquel to Red)

"Elizabeth Ashton was more that just a girl to me. She was my best friend, she was the love of my life, she was my light. Since the day I met her when we were 5 years old there hasn't been a single day that I didn't love her. Without her, I wouldn't be the man I am today. She taught me so many things. She taught me to never give up on myself and to never let anyone tell me who I am, who I want to be. She taught me to believe in myself even when no one else did. Through the 15 years that I knew her, just the thought of her made me smile. Now I can't help but look back on all of the memories we made. The pillow fights, the sleep overs, the ghost stories. She made me happier than anyone else ever could. She put a smile on my face even when I was on the verge of tears and she always knew what to say. So much of the world knows Elizabeth Ashton as the girl who broke free from her past and created a future...

11. I'll Come Back

***Beth's POV***

I woke up to the sound of a loud creak from downstairs. I looked down and saw Liam's arms encircling my waist. Slowly I slipped out of his arms, careful not to wake him. I looked over at the clock and saw that it was 5:23 am. I sighed, knowing I hadn't gotten much sleep. I crept out of Liam's room and out into the hallway. The hallway was dark except for the moonlight shining through the window at the end. Again I heard the creak and I felt a shiver rush down my spine. I slowly walked to the edge of the stairs and made my way slowly down. As I reached the bottom step my eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness around me. I had an erie feeling like someone or something was watching me. My footsteps were soft as I shuffled through the dark room. I stood there for a moment. I knew someone was watching me. I could almost feel their presence.

Before I could do a thing, before I could think or act, the silence was broken. A rough hand clamped over my mouth and with the other hand trapped both hands behind my back. I tried to scream but it was muffled by the hand.

"Shut up bitch." His haunting voice filled my ears.

I let out a small whimper, I knew that voice anywhere. He had come for me. This time I wasn't prepared for the consequences that lied ahead.

"Say a word and I'll make sure your little pretty boy up there doesn't live to see the sunrise." He hissed in my ear.

I could felt a wet tear slip from my eye as I nodded my head and obeyed him. I wasn't going to take my chances, not when it came to someone who mattered so deeply to me. Not when it came to Liam. He began pushing me towards the front door.

"Let her go!" A voice bellowed from behind us.

I heard my father chuckled a little bit, stopping in the place he stood.

"Oh look, he's come to your rescue." He smirked evilly.

Liam began descending the stairs, a deadly glare plastered on his face. "I said... Let. Her. Go."

I had never seen this side of him before. Ever. The dark eyes, the deadly looks. This Liam was different.

I shoved my father's hand off of my mouth. "L-Liam please. Just let me go. He's going to hurt you. I'd rather die than have him lay a finger on you. Please." I begged, tears falling from my eyes.

Liam's eyes flickered to me then back to the man holding me back.

"I've lost you too many times. I can't loose you again." He told me.

"Liam please." I begged again, tears falling like waterfalls from my eyes.

His hand clamped back over my mouth.

"I will not let you treat her like you did before. I will not!" Liam yelled. "Every single fucking day you abused her. You told her lies you made her fucking cry!"

My father only smirked. "Is that what she told you? Is that all?"

Liam's eyes shot towards me. I hadn't told him one thing. I knew for sure he would go ballistic.

"Beth..." Liam whispered in a shaky voice. "What else did he do?"

His hand went away from my mouth so I could speak. "N-nothing."

"You're lying. Tell me Beth." He said, his dark eyes burning into mine.

A tear slid down my cheek. "Liam-"

"DAMN IT BETH. TELL ME!" He bellowed.

I just stared at him, hurt, fear, sadness in my eyes. "H-he..."

"Go on. Tell him. Don't you think he'd like to know." My father smirked.

"He raped me okay?! He raped me." I choked out, my eyes not meeting Liam's.

It was almost like a blur as Liam shot towards my father. He pulled me out of his grasp and threw my father on the floor. I watched in horror as Liam beat the life out of him. He was still my father... no matter what crazy shit he's done to me. He's still my father.

"Liam stop." I choked out in a shaky voice.

I heard footsteps on the stairs and I watched as the boys stumbled down, the girls behind them. They all watched in horror as Liam beat the life out of the man on the floor.

I just sat there in a ball on the floor, watching my best friend beat the life out of the man I used to care about so much, the man who I would always run to for help. The man who was there the moment I stared my life. Though the man he has turned into is unforgivable, what he has done, he will always be my father. I glanced over to my friends who stood on the stairs and Louis was giving me a worried look.

"Liam stop!" I said a bit louder.

Liam showed no signs of stopping.

He stopped mid punch and looked down at my father who laid on the ground, blood covering his face. His face turned towards me and his eyes softened when he saw the tears streaming down my cheeks. Slowly he stood up and looked down at his fists which were covered in my father's blood. My lip quivered as I looked at him. He wasn't the Liam I knew. The Liam I knew would never lay a finger on anyone. Not even my father.

"Beth..." He whispered.

"Who are you?!" I choked out.

"What?" He asked.

"Who are you? You're not the Liam I grew up with. You're not the Liam I knew. What happened to you?" I said, tears falling from my eyes.

"I- I'm Liam. You know that Beth." He whispered.

"No you're not." I glanced at the man who lay lifeless in his own pool of blood. "You... you're a monster."

Liam walked towards me but I backed away.

"Don't. Touch me." I said sternly.

He looked at me for a moment before I pushed past him. I walked past the shocked faces of my friends and up the stairs. I walked into Liam's room and gathered all of my stuff and walked back downstairs. Liam just stood there but when he saw my stuff in my arms I saw sadness in his eyes.

"Beth. Please. I- I'm sorry." He choked out.

I looked at him for a moment. "Liam you may have just murdered my father... right before my eyes. Thats not something I can let go. I... I think we should maybe take a break."

I saw a tar fall from Liam's eyes. "No. No you can't do this. We can fix this."

I shook my head, a tear falling from my eyes. "Not this time Liam. You can't bring back the dead."

I looked down at my father who lay on the floor lifeless, his chest not moving up and down. Even if he wasn't dead, one more punch and he would be. I turned to my friends who just stood there in shock.

"I- I'll miss all of you. I think its best if all of us spend some time apart." I mumbled.

"Beth please." Louis choked out, walking towards me.

He pulled me into a hug and hugged me tightly.

"Please don't go." He mumbled into my shoulder.

I pulled away and stared into his tear filled blue eyes.

"I have to. I need to think about things." I whispered.

I turned to everyone else. "This is goodbye but not forever. I'll come back. I promise you that. I'll come back."

I looked at Liam, hurt instantly overwhelming me. Without a goodbye to him I walked out the door and into the early morning air. I did not look back that night for I feared regret.
