Safe And Sound (Triquel to Red)

"Elizabeth Ashton was more that just a girl to me. She was my best friend, she was the love of my life, she was my light. Since the day I met her when we were 5 years old there hasn't been a single day that I didn't love her. Without her, I wouldn't be the man I am today. She taught me so many things. She taught me to never give up on myself and to never let anyone tell me who I am, who I want to be. She taught me to believe in myself even when no one else did. Through the 15 years that I knew her, just the thought of her made me smile. Now I can't help but look back on all of the memories we made. The pillow fights, the sleep overs, the ghost stories. She made me happier than anyone else ever could. She put a smile on my face even when I was on the verge of tears and she always knew what to say. So much of the world knows Elizabeth Ashton as the girl who broke free from her past and created a future...

59. Forever

***Beth's POV***

"WAKE UP. ITS CHRISTMAS." I heard a voice yell as the bed continued to shift.

My eyes slowly opened and my eyes adjusted to the room around me. I looked sup and saw Liam standing over me, a huge grin on his face.

"Wake upppp." He whined.

That put a smile on my face. "Maybe I don't wanna get up." I mumbled tiredly.

He took both of my hands in his and tried to pull me up but instead I pulled him down and I straddled his waist.

"Maybe I just wanna stay right here with you." I smiled.

He put his hands on my waist and grinned. "I could go for that."

He softly pressed his lips to mine and my arms wrapped around his neck.

"I love you so damn much." He mumbled against my lips.

"I love you more." I smiled.

"Yeah, well we both know thats not true." He smirked.

I laid my head on his shoulder and smiled.

"I wonder what it feels like..." I trailed off.

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"To be tied down in a relationship. To me married..." I told him.

He kissed my temple. "You'll never be tied down. If you're tied down, you're trapped. You'll never be trapped with me."

I smiled. "How does Elizabeth Payne sound anyway?"

I could se the grin on his face, he looked as if he was about to burst with happiness.

"It sounds incredible. You are incredible." He told me.

I kissed his lips softly. "C'mon lets go downstairs."

I got up and he got up after me. He and I walked out of his room and we made our way downstairs. We found almost everyone in the living room sitting around talking.

"Look who finally decided to get up." Nicola smiled.

I rolled my eyes and smiled. "Wheres Ruth, Nick and Luke?"

"Still asleep. Its impossible to wake them up. Even on christmas." Liam's aunt told me.

I looked at Liam and grinned. "We'll be right back."

Liam and I rushed upstairs and ran into Luke and Nick's room. The two of them were covered in heaps of blankets.

"You get Nick I'll get Luke." I whispered to Liam.

He nodded. He and I got onto their beds and began to jump.

"LUKEEEEEE! WAKE UPPPPP!" I shouted loudly.

I could hear a little muffled groan from under the covers. I looked over at Liam who was shouting and tackling Nick.

I saw him peak out from under the covers, his eyes barely open.

"No." He mumbled.

He covered his face with the covers again.

"Oh, its gonna be that way huh?" I smirked. "Lukas Anthony Payne, if you don't get your ass out of bed right now tomorrow you'll wake up with and ice cold shower. Literally."

He uncovered his full face this time and looked up at me. "Now thats just cruel."

"I know." I smiled. "Now get up."

He looked at me and groaned. "I hate you."

"You love me shut up." I laughed

He slowly got up and I smiled. "Now that wasn't hard was it?"

He groaned again. I looked over at Liam who was still struggling with Nick.

"Having trouble there?" I smirked.

Liam nodded. "Just a bit."

I walked over to the bed and grabbed Nick's arm and pulled him off the bed.

"Ow." Nick mumbled.

"Nick honey, get up. Its christmas. You don't want me waking you up with a cold shower either." I told him.

Soon both Nick and Luke were sitting up.

"Now go downstairs and join everyone else. We're going to go wake up Ruth." I told them.

They nodded groggily and Liam and I walked out of the room. We walked into Ruth's room and found her bundled up in blankets. Liam held up a finger to his lips.

"Go stand on the bed. I'll tell you when to jump." He whispered.

I nodded and slowly stood on the bed. Liam grabbed Ruth's guitar from the corner and began softly playing it.

"Its time to get up in the morning."  He sang. "In the morning."

"Its Christmas and we got presents for you." I sang, catching along.

"Just for you."

"We drove six hours to get here."

"So you better get up and open them."

Liam looked at me and counted down his fingers.

"SO ITS TIME TO GET UP! GET UP!" Liam and I sang loudly.

We could see Ruth poking her head out from under the covers.

"God, you two are both such dorks. I'm serious." She mumbled tiredly.

"Its alright. You love us." I laughed.

"Ruth you gotta get up because its Christmas. If you don't Beth and I will come in tomorrow and give you an ice cold shower."Liam grinned.

She groaned. "I hate you guys." She covered her face back up with the covers.

I rolled my eyes. "Now you're just asking for it."

I grabbed a pillow off her bed and began hitting her with it. I could hear groans from under the covers but that didn't stop me. I looked over and saw Liam just standing there laughing.

"Stop standing there you idiot! Get a pillow!" I laughed.

He grabbed a pillow off the bed and too began hitting Ruth repeatedly with it.

"Okay, okay." Ruth muttered.

She pulled the covers off of her and sat up. "I'm up."

I grinned. "Now get your bum downstairs."

She looked at me then looked at Liam. "And she's going to be my sister in law in a few months?"

"Yep. So you better get used to it." He grinned.

She groaned and stood up. We followed her out of the room and down the stairs. As soon as we reached the living room she took a seat next to Nicola. I noticed Nick and Luke almost half asleep on the floor.

"Well now that we have everyone here, we can begin." I smiled.

"I'd like to say something before we start. It won't take long, I promise. I cannot tell you how proud I am to be able to call you part of our family Beth. While you have always been like a daughter to me I am so glad I can finally call you officially part of this family. You make my son so incredibly happy and talking to you on that first day of primary school was maybe the best decision that he's ever made. We all love you and I can't wait for you to be my daughter in law." Liam's mum smiled.

I felt like I could burst with happiness at that moment. I looked over and saw Chris rolling his eyes but I ignored it.

"Thank you. That means so much. I consider each of you like my family and I honestly can't wait to officially be part of this family." I grinned.

Liam kissed my temple. "I love you. So so much." He smiled.

He held me close to him and we began opening presents. Finally when everyone had their presents I had received so many amazing gifts from everyone... even Chris surprisingly. I hadn't yet received a present from Liam though.

"Alright, so I saved this one for last because there are a lot of stories to it." Liam said, pulling a large package out from behind the couch. He handed it to me and I gave him a look.

"I told you not to get me anything you dork." I smiled.

"Yeah well I said the same thing and you got me something." He grinned. "Open it."

I slipped off the purple ribbon and the silver wrapping paper and saw a white box. I took off the lid and found a bunch of stuff inside. A butterfly ring, a polaroid camera along with some pictures, a sea shell, a purple crayon, a stack of letters and a scrapbook. I looked at Liam with a confused look.

"Each of these items has a story. This butterfly ring, we found it when we were eight years old. You and I were in the park while our mums talked and we found this buried under the leaves. That day you told me that someday you wanted to marry prince charming and how you couldn't wait to get married. This camera, when we were 10 years old you and I were over at your house and we were digging through the attic and found this. We took a bunch of pictures." He took out each of the pictures and showed them to me. "This sea shell we found at the beach when we were 14. You said it was one of the most beautiful things you had ever seen and I said 'yeah it is' but I was really looking at you. Not the shell. " He blushed. "In this stack there are letters to you. When we were fifteen I convinced myself that I would tell you how I felt about you. I would write you these letters confessing everything but I never gave them to you because I never got the courage. This purple crayon... this is the one you handed to me the day we met." He smiled.

I looked at him and my eyes widened. "This exact one?" I gasped.

He nodded. "Its kind of ironic because the name of this reticular color is called forever."

I looked at the crayon and indeed, on the side it said forever. "Oh my god..." I whispered. "You had known me for less than a day. Why did you take the crayon?"

"Because when I saw you from across the room I knew, somehow that you were special. Sure, I was just a five year old kid but I somehow knew. You lit up the crowded room." He told me.

I looked at him and then at the crayon. "I... I can't even..."

"You don't have to say anything." He smiled. "And this scrapbook... its not complete because my life with you isn't complete. There are only eighteen pages that are done. Each one represents a year of our friendship and the blank pages represent our future. Even when were old and rocking in our rocking chairs, I hope to be filling in pages in this book." He told me.

I looked at him, no words left my mouth. I was just completely speechless. It was like he had taken my breath away. My heart felt like it was about to burst and I could feel happy tears in my eyes. He smiled at me.

"Please say something." He said.

I looked at him. "I can't." I whispered. "Liam... Liam this is absolutely incredible."

I smiled. "So you like it?"

I looked at him. "Did you really just ask that question? Liam, this is the most amazing thing anyone has ever given me."

"Well I love you more than anything and you deserve only the dest." He told me.

"God, I love you so much." I smiled.

After a while Liam and I went upstairs to change. As soon as we reached his room I shut the door behind his and pulled him into a long, passionate kiss. My arms went around his neck and my fingers tangled into his hair. His hands went under my thighs and he lifted me up and pushed me against the wall. He slid his tongue between my lips and pushed against my teeth, begging for entrance. I granted him entrance and our tongues danced with so much passion. His grip around me tightened and I pulled myself closer and closer to his body. His lips left mine and landed on my neck were he gave me slow kisses. Each kiss left a hot searing feeling, like I was begging for more. His hands moved up to my waist and his thumbs began rubbing my skin in circles while he softly kissed my neck.

"You're such a tease." I muttered.

"Only cause I love you." He mumbled against my neck.

He sent shivers down my spine each time his lips touched my skin. He made my heart dance. He made my smile grow. He made my knees weak. He made my life so incredible. He brought his lips back to mine and gave me slow, soft kisses. No tonge. Nothing. And yet, I still felt the sparks shoot through me and I could almost feel the butterflies flutter in my stomach.

"We both know this can't turn into something more." I chucked against his lips.

"We'll be quiet." He muttered.

I gave him a funny look. "Liam, we're not having sex with your whole family right downstairs."

He groaned and buried his face into my shoulder. "I want you so badly right now. Its not even funny."

I smirked and kissed his neck softly, knowing it would only turn him on more.

"And you say I'm a tease?" He groaned.

"Yep." I smiled. "C'mon, we need to get dressed."

He groaned and laid back on his bed. "At least come and lay with me for a few minutes.

"No." I laughed. "Because then we'd never get up. You and I both know that."

He grabbed my arm and pulled me on top of him so that I was straddling his waist.

"Liam!" I laughed.

"Stay." He mumbled.

He pulled me closer to him and hugged me to his chest. He tangled his feet with mine and made it so that I couldn't escape his grasp even if I tried.

"Why do we have to get married in July? Why can't we just get married tomorrow? I don't want to wait." He whispered, looking at me with his soft brown eyes.

I smiled. "Because a wedding takes a lot of planning. We haven't even sent out invitations yet."

"Then lets just have a small wedding. Just you and I? Just run off and get married?" He asked.

"Liam, I cannot wait to marry you. Really. I just know we'd both get hell for running off and getting married." I told him.

"We don't have to tell anyone. We'll still have the wedding in July. Beth you have no idea how badly I want to marry you." He told me. "You make me feel whole. You take my heart to a whole other world. I want you. I want every single piece of you from now until the day we die. I want you.

I looked at him, so much seriousness and love in his eyes.

"Liam." I whispered. "We're getting married in July. In the next seven months, I won't be anywhere but right by your side."

"I just don't want to loose you." He mumbled.

I held up my finger and pointed to the diamond ring on my finger. "Does this mean nothing to you? This ring on my finger, it means you'll never loose me. This ring means that I'm yours today, tomorrow and forever. I'm not going anywhere. Ever. So even if it means waiting seven months to get married, I'll always be yours. Always."

He held up his pinky and smiled. "Too old for pinky promises?"

I smirked at his childishness. "Liam James Payne, I am never too old for a pinky promise with you."

I linked my pinky with his.

"Do you pinky promise you'll neer leave me, that you'll always be mine? Forever?" He asked, looking at me with serious eyes.

I smiled. "Forever."

He looked at me for a second before grinning. He flipped me over on his bed so that he was now straddling me.

"I can't wait to marry you Beth." He whispered.

"I can't wait to marry you either." I smiled.

He brought his lips to mine and kissed me softly. Shocks rushed through my body.

"Now lets get dressed. We've been up here for like half an hour."

"You think they're getting the wrong idea?" He chuckled.

"I do think that. Yes." I told him.

"Well they can think whatever they want. I don't care. As long as I have you." He smiled.

I rolled my eyes. "Still. We need to change."

He sighed. "Fine."

He rolled off me and we stood up. I walked over to my bag and pulled out an outfit. I slipped out of my leggings and shirt. I could see out of the corner of my eye that Liam was watching me.

"I can see you staring at me." I smirked.

"So? I'm aloud to." He grinned, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind.

"Liam get dressed!" I laughed. "You're only in your boxers!"

"And you're only in your bra and panties. Personally I think its too much clothing." He told me.

"You hang out with Harry too much." I smirked.

"You love it." He said knowingly.

"Nope!" I smiled, popping the 'p'.

"Admit it." He grinned.

"I'm not admitting it." I laughed.

"Admit it." He said again.

"I'm never going to." I told him.

He kissed my neck softly. "Admit it."

"If I admit it will you let me get dressed?" I smiled.

He looked at me thought the mirror one more time. "Maybe."

I looked at him warily. "Fine. I admit it. Now get dressed."

"Fine." He groaned.

I slipped on my shirt and jeans and grabbed my sweater out of my bag. I grabbed my uggs and sipped them on my feet. I walked into the bathroom and brushed out my hair. I grabbed my curling iron and plugged it in. While I waited for it to heat up I did light makeup. When the curling iron was heated up I began lightly curling my hair in tight curls. Liam walked into the bathroom and grabbed his toothbrush. As he began brushing his teeth he wouldn't take is eyes off of me through the mirror.

"So I was thinking, when we get back we should go see the wedding planner. She told me that she wants to start getting invitations out." I told him.H

He nodded his head. "I agree. When we get back I think we should also start looking at houses. I know you hate our house."

"Yeah. I want to stay near everyone else though." I told him.

"We'll try." He smiled. "So um... I think we should get a pretty big house... I mean, I want to start a family."

I smiled. "Remember when we used to talk about what we would do if we got married?"

"Two daughters, one son." Liam said, a smile on his face.

"You remembered that? Its been like six years." I smiled.

"Of course I remembered it." He smiled.

I finished curling my hair and I set the curling wand on the counter.

"Lets go downstairs." I told him.

He nodded. "Alright. Just don't leave and have girly conversations for the rest of the day." He said.

I smiled at him and gave him a small kiss.

"I couldn't even if I wanted too. I would never be able to stay away from you that long." I smiled.
