Safe And Sound (Triquel to Red)

"Elizabeth Ashton was more that just a girl to me. She was my best friend, she was the love of my life, she was my light. Since the day I met her when we were 5 years old there hasn't been a single day that I didn't love her. Without her, I wouldn't be the man I am today. She taught me so many things. She taught me to never give up on myself and to never let anyone tell me who I am, who I want to be. She taught me to believe in myself even when no one else did. Through the 15 years that I knew her, just the thought of her made me smile. Now I can't help but look back on all of the memories we made. The pillow fights, the sleep overs, the ghost stories. She made me happier than anyone else ever could. She put a smile on my face even when I was on the verge of tears and she always knew what to say. So much of the world knows Elizabeth Ashton as the girl who broke free from her past and created a future...

13. Bring Back Any Memories?

***Beth's POV***

"Luke! Hurry up!" I laughed as we walked off the plane in London.

A part of me wanted to forget about what happened here by hiding behind a fake smile but I just couldn't. As soon as Luke and I reached the end of the terminal, I looked out into the airport. With a heavy sigh, Luke and I walked slowly to baggage claim. He slipped his hand into mine and squeezed it.

"You'll be fine. What are the chances of running into that Payne kid anyway?" Luke asked.

Just the mention of his name made my heart heavy. He had hurt me so much and this time its not something he could have an explanation for. You can't bring back the dead.

I sighed. "I guess."

As soon as we got to baggage claim we found our bags and walked out of the airport. We found a taxi and got in. As the driver drove to our hotel Luke held me in his arms in the backseat.

"I love you." He whispered in my ear.

I smiled and looked up at him. "I love you too."

For the rest of the car ride I stared out the window. Places that once held memories passed by only making my heart drop more. Finally we reached the hotel and he and I got out. Luke and I got our bags out of the car and walked into the hotel. As soon as we had our room we took the elevator up to the 9th floor where our room was. Once inside I dropped my bag and ran over to the bed. Without a thought I plopped myself down and laid back.

"I'm so tired." I groaned.

Luke chuckled. "Why? You slept almost the entire plane ride."

I looked up at him. "I love my sleep."

"Well you can't sleep because you have that meeting you need to go to in an hour." He smiled.

I groaned. "Why did I agree to that? I mean, do I really want to give up my amazing life with you just for the thrill of being onstage?"

He laughed. "Yes. Beth, this is what you love to do."

"Its was what I loved to do. Was. It might not be anymore. I mean, its going to bring back so many memories. Memories I would rather not think about." I sighed.

I sat up and he came over to me and took my hands into his. "Elizabeth Ashton, I need you to do something for me. I need you o put all those memories behind you. Start fresh. Start new. Don't let the shadows from your past get to you. Its just you against the world. Can you do that for me?"

I smiled. "You know, this is why I love you. And yes. Yes I can do that."

He softly pecked my lips.

"Now go get ready for that interview." He told me.

"Yes dad." I smirked.

I took out my outfit from my suitcase and walked into the bathroom. After I changed I walked out and saw Luke laying on the bed on his phone.

"I've gotta go now." I told him.

He smiled and got up.

"Ready to become famous again?" He smiled.

I sighed. "I guess. The normal life was nice while it lasted."

"Your enthusiasm is killing me." He smirked.

"I know right? So enthusiastic." I said sarcastically. "I have to go."

He kissed me softly. "I love you. Now go and get your life back... well part of it."

"Love you too." I said before walking out of the hotel room.

As I lumbered down the hallway I could almost feel the changes coming. I wouldn't be able to walk out of a hotel without fans screaming my name. I wouldn't be able to get Starbucks without being bombarded by paps. I had only a few more hours of being just another girl, just Elizabeth Ashton. I stepped into the elevator, cherishing some of the last moments of normality. Finally the elevator reached the bottom floor and I walked outside where I found a taxi.Once inside I stared out at the window at the civilians walking the streets, no paps jumping out of jumping out of pushes or driving by in cars trying to take their pictures. Oh how I would envy them in a few short hours. Sure, I loved my fans but sometimes a breath was nice. Finally the car pulled up to the familiar building. I looked at it and so many memories flooded back. I stepped out of the car and took my first step to my life that I had left behind only two years ago. I walked to the front door and pushed it open. I walked up to the front desk.

"Excuse me, I have a meeting with Simon Cowell." I said to the secretary.

She look at me and her eyes grew a little wider. "Mrs. Ashton. Its been a while hasn't it?"

I sighed and looked around the room. "It has. It really has."

She smiled. "Mr. Cowell is on the 3rd floor. Same office."

"Thank you." I smiled.

I walked over to the elevator and took my phone out. I scrolled through tweets as the elevator rose to the 3rd floor. Finally the elevator dinged and the doors opened I stepped out and looked up from my phone. I was stopped in my tracks, I almost looked like a deer in the headlights. I stared at what... who was before me. The people I hadn't laid my eyes on in two years. None other than the boys of One Direction.

"Beth...?" Louis whispered.

I stared at him. "What? Why are you staring at me like that?"

They just stared at me, there jaws dropped a little. I could find the courage to look at... him.

"Beth... you've been gone, for two years. You just left." Harry said, still in shock.

I was silent for a moment. "Yeah. Yeah I guess I did."

"What do you mean you guess you did? Why? It was almost like you fell off the face of the earth." Niall said, hurt in his eyes.

"Look I... I can't talk about this now or here." I sighed.

"Why?" Louis asked.

"I'm having a meeting with Simon." I told them.

"So are you back? For good?" Zayn asked.

"I'm trying to get my old life back... well... part of it." I said.

The boys looked at him. Finally my eyes followed their gaze. I hardly recognized the person in front of me. His once chocolate brown eyes were now a piercing shade of black. It look as if he hadn't smiled in years. His hands were shoved deep into his pockets. His eyes met mine, and he only stared back with a glare.

"Hey..." I whispered.

His jaw tensed. "Hey? You leave me for two fucking years with no word and all you say is hey?!" He spat.

I just stared at him. "Well what do you want me to say Liam?!"

"Tell me why you left?" He practically yelled.

"Really Liam? Can you honestly not remember?" I spat.

"Amuse me." He smirked coldly.

"You killed my father. Bring back any memories? You killed him right in front of my eyes." I hissed, feeling the tears in my eyes.

His glare burned into my eyes. "He was going to kill you Elizabeth. Bring back any memories?" He mocked.

He never called me Elizabeth unless he was being serious. I just glared at him.

"You know what Liam? I don't even know who you are anymore. Now if you excuse me, I have a meeting to get to." I glared.

"Oh fuck you Elizabeth. Who the hell do you think you are? You think you can just leave for two years and everything will go back to normal?" He spat.

"No Liam. I don't. The one thing that will never go back to being normal is you and me. No sorry or I love you will fix this." I hissed.

I began walking away towards Simon's office.

"Good. Because I don't love you anymore. You're nothing to me." He called.

And at that moment, I knew I had lost Liam Payne forever.
