Safe And Sound (Triquel to Red)

"Elizabeth Ashton was more that just a girl to me. She was my best friend, she was the love of my life, she was my light. Since the day I met her when we were 5 years old there hasn't been a single day that I didn't love her. Without her, I wouldn't be the man I am today. She taught me so many things. She taught me to never give up on myself and to never let anyone tell me who I am, who I want to be. She taught me to believe in myself even when no one else did. Through the 15 years that I knew her, just the thought of her made me smile. Now I can't help but look back on all of the memories we made. The pillow fights, the sleep overs, the ghost stories. She made me happier than anyone else ever could. She put a smile on my face even when I was on the verge of tears and she always knew what to say. So much of the world knows Elizabeth Ashton as the girl who broke free from her past and created a future...

***Beth's POV***

The morning of August 20th I woke up the bright sun shining in my eyes. I rolled over in the bed, expecting to see Liam laying beside be but all I saw was a pillow. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 12:30. After letting out a sigh I slipped out of bed and walked downstairs. Surprisingly, it seemed like the house was empty. I could hear each footstep I took as it echoed through the empty house. I walked into the kitchen and after a moment of looking around I saw a note on the counter.

At 4:00 a limo will pick you up outside. There is an outfit in a box on my desk. Put your hair in curls and wear a white bow. I love you and I can't wait to see you. xx -Liam

A smile grew on my face. Whatever he has planned, it must be good. I walked upstairs and saw a white box sitting on Liam's desk. I took the top off and inside there was a light pink dress with a white belt. There were white mary jane pumps that went along with it. I picked up the dress and held it against my body. It was absolutely gorgeous. I took out my phone and texted Ruth.

Hey, where is everyone. I woke up and everyone was gone. -Beth

Moments later there was a reply.

You'll find out later. Don't worry. :) -Ruth

I sighed, so its going to be another one of those days where no one tells me whats going on. Alright then. I stood up and walked into the bathroom. After talking a shower and drying myself off I changed into a lazy day outfit. I walked downstairs and grabbed an apple and bit into it. I took out my phone and began scrolling through Twitter. Not really much was happening. Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are back together... again. Don't know how long that'll last. Taylor Swift had yet another man on her arm. Whats new of course? Perrie tweeted that her and the girls are really excited for tonight. Wonder whats tonight.

I looked at the time and saw that it was 1:30. After I finished my apple I went upstairs and scrolled through Facebook and news for a while. Finally when it was 2:30 I decided it was time to start getting ready. I walked into the bathroom and began doing my hair in perfect, long curls. After slightly burning myself twice, I had finished. I applied hairspray to my newly curled hair and unplugged the wand.

I looked at the clock once more. 3:00. I took out my makeup and began lining my eyes with eyeliner. After applying eyeshadow and mascara I applied the rest of my makeup and looked in the mirror with satisfaction. After putting all my makeup away I walked back into Liam's room and walked over to the box. I took the top off and picked up the dress. After slipping out of my previous outfit I slipped on the dress and looked at it with awe. The light pink perfectly highlighted my tan skin. I twirled around in front of the full length mirror. The only thing that confused me way why Liam wanted me to wear a certain outfit.

Finally when it was close to 4:00 I slipped on the white marry jane heels and clipped the white bow into my hair. I looked at myself one more time in the mirror, admiring the outfit.  I grabbed my bag and phone and walked downstairs. Minutes later there was a honk from outside and I looked out the window. There, outside Liam's house was a white stretch limo. My smile grew and I walked outside, locking the door behind me. I walked over to the limo and the driver opened the door for me.

"Thank you." I told him.

He only nodded. I slid into the limo and he closed the door behind me. I took out my phone as the driver pulled away from the house.

Liam, this is really too much already. I love you. -Beth

I looked out the window as cars passed by and wondered what the next few hours had in store for me. You'd think after 18 years of knowing him I'd know what he has planned. Thats one of the things I love about him though. He's always full of surprises. Moments later the driver pulled up to a park that Liam and I had shared so many memories in. It was a large beautiful park that I had always loved when I was a kid. The driver got out and opened the door for me. I got out and instantly noticed Zayn leaning up against the tree. I smiled at the driver before walking over to him.

"Zayn... what are you doing in Wolverhampton?" I asked.

He smiled and handed me a piece of paper. I looked at him then the piece of paper. I unfolded it and read it.

When we were younger you and I would always climb this tree and tell each other stories. One time we even got stranded and made up stories about how we were on a desert island.  -Liam

A smile spread across my face at the memories. Zayn pulled me into a hug.

"Go to the playground okay?" He asked.

I nodded. I gave him one more smile before heading over to the playground. I saw Perrie sitting there with a piece of paper in her hand. When she saw me walking over to her she stood up and smiled. Again, without words being spoken she handed me the paper. I unfolded it and read it.

When we were 6 years old you and I sat on these swings and told each other that we would be best friends forever and no one could ever change that. -Liam

I looked up at Perrie and smiled. She gave me a hug.

"Go back to the limo. It'll take you to the next place." She told me.

I nodded. I gave her one more hug before walking back to the limo. Once inside the driver drove away. I looked down at the two slips of paper in my hand and smiled. Whatever he had planned, it must be pretty special. Soon the limo pulled into our old middle school. The driver opened the door for me and I stepped out. I looked around for a moment before I saw Niall sitting on the steps. I walked over to him and smiled. He handed me a piece of paper and I read it.

Each day I would meet you right here before school. I always looked forward to seeing you because you could always put a smile on my face. -Liam

I looked up at Niall and smiled. He pulled me into a hug.

"Go to room 22." He told me.

I nodded and walked inside. I could hear my heels click on the hallway floor with each step I took. Soon I reached room 22 and I pushed the door open. Harry was sitting on one of the desks in the back with a smile on his face.

"Wanna tell me whats going on?" I asked him.

He shook his head and smiled. He handed me a piece of paper and I read it.

Remember how we would always sit in the back in Mrs. Atkinson's class and mess around? She tried separating us but even while we were half way across the room from each other, we still caused trouble. -Liam

I smiled at the memory. Harry gave me a hug.

"Go to the field." He told me.

I nodded and walked out of the room. Once outside I saw Eleanor sitting on the field. Once she saw me she stood up and handed me a piece of paper with a cheesy grin on her face. I looked at the paper.

During the summer you and I would come down here and play football. You beat me a number of times although I always claimed I had won. I let you win those times though. -Liam

I rolled my eyes at that and smiled. El pulled me into a hug.

"Go back to the limo. It'll take you to the next place."She told me.

I nodded and walked back to the limo. I noticed that Niall was no longer sitting on the steps. I got back into the car and the limo pulled away. I sat there in silence as I thought of all the memories he and I shared over the years. I couldn't wipe the grin off my face. Soon the limo pulled into my old high school. The driver opened the door for me and I got out. I walked around for a moment before I saw Louis sitting on the bleachers next to the football field. He looked up with a smile on his face as I walked over. He handed me a piece of paper and opened it and began reading.

It was almost 5 years ago that I saw you for the very first time in two years. While you may have looked broken and upset while yelling at your ad through the phone you still looked beautiful to me. The lads told me that I should go follow you but I told them I didn't want to seem like a stalker. I'm glad I took their advice. -Liam

I looked up at Louis with a big smile. He pulled me into a huge hug.

"Okay I was instructed not to speak unless I was giving you your next place but I have to say this. Beth you're like my little sister and I care about you a lot. If Liam ever hurts you just call me up and I'll give him a piece of my mind." He told me.

I hugged him tighter. "Thanks Lou."

"Alright, you need to go inside and go to the auditorium." He told me.

I nodded. I walked away and walked inside the school. As soon as I walked into the auditorium I saw Emily sitting on the stage. I walked up to her and she had a huge grin on her face. Of course, she handed me a slip of paper.

Remember when you would help me practice singing on a stage before I tired out for the X Factor? You helped me build the confidence and eventually pushed me out onto that stage. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be where I am today. -Liam

I looked up at Em who looked like she had teas in her eyes.

"Why does it look like you have tears in your eyes?" I asked her.

She waved me off. "Tears of joy. Don't worry. Get back in the limo. It'll take you to the next place."

I nodded and gave her a huge hug. I walked outside and got back into the limo and the driver pulled away. I noticed as we drove past the field that Louis was no longer on the bleachers. Soon the driver pulled onto my street and pulled up my driveway. I looked up at the house that I hadn't seen in months and smiled. I got out and walked up the front steps. I walked into my house and saw Miranda sitting on the left staircase. She stood up and I walked to her. She handed me a slip of paper and I proceeded to read it.

It would take forever to write down all the memories in this house. The pillow fights, the sleepovers, the cake and soap fights. Lets not forget pushing each other into your pool during the summer. Hide and seek and annoying the babysitters. The movies we would foolishly watch at 3:00 am and then vow to never speak of our reactions again. You and I share so many memories in this house and I cherish each and every one of them. -Liam

I stared at the paper for a minute before looking back up at Miranda. I pulled her into a huge hug.

"Go back to the limo. It will take you to your final destination." She said.

She too looked like she had tears in her eyes, tears of joy of course. I nodded and walked back out to the limo.  As the limo was pulling away I could see Miranda exiting my house in a hurry. The driver drove around for a while, it looked as though he wasn't sure where he was going... he had driven past that sign three times now. I took out my phone and saw that it was now 5:57. After I though we'd never reach our destination, the limo stopped. I looked out the window and at that moment I thought my heart was truly smiling. The limo had pulled up to my old primary school, the place I had first met Liam. I stepped out of the car and saw 18 people standing in a line, all with a single white rose in their hands. I saw the boys, the girls, Liam's parents, Ruth, Nicola, his grandparents, his cousins Luke and Nick and his aunt and uncle. They each sported a smile. As I walked up Liam's aunt handed me the first rose and as I walked past each person they handed me the rose in their hands. By the time I got to the end of the line I had 18 white roses in my arms.

Miranda who was the last person in the line handed me one last piece of paper. I struggled to hold the 18 roses while I unfolded the paper but was able to pull it off.

Go to the place where it all began... - Liam

My smile grew, I knew the place he was talking about. I walked up the front steps to the building and opened the door. Once inside I walked down the hall, the roses still in my grasp. Finally I found myself at the door to room 11. The room where I had first laid my eyes on Liam. The room where only a few simple words changed my life. My hand grasped the door knob and finally I pushed it open. There stool Liam in a blue plaid shirt and tan skinny jeans. Thats when I finally realized. I looked down at my light pink dress. These were the outfits similar to the ones we had worn on the day we met.

He stood there, looking perfect. His hands were in his pockets and a huge smile was on his face.

"You made it." He smiled.

I smiled back. "I made it."

He took the roses from my grasp and set them on the table beside him. He took my hands into his.

"Elizabeth, 18 years ago today I woke up not yet knowing that later on that day I'd meet a girl that would not only become my best friend but the girl who would steal my heart the moment I laid my eyes on her. Maybe it was the way you didn't care what people thought of you or the was you tipped your head back when you laughed. Maybe it was the way your blue eyes shined when you smiled or the way you could catch my attention even in a crowded classroom. As we grew up you and I shared so many memories, the pillow fights, the cake batter, even the sleepovers. Each day I felt myself falling harder and harder for you. You always ask me, 'why me?'. Elizabeth, no one knows me like you do. You have not only been there from the start but you've been there each and every step of the way. You give me butterflies just at the thought of you. I love everything about you. Your eyes, your smile, you're laugh. Everything. I am so crazy in love with you Elizabeth Ashton." He told me.

I could feel the tears of joy coming. He pulled one last rose from behind his back. Only this one was red and looked fake.

"The 18 roses your received represent the 18 years that I've known you. This one though, it represents the future. The reason why its not a real rose is because real roses die. They don't last forever. I want my life with you to last forever. I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He told me.

I watched as he knelt down on one knee and my hands flew up to cover my gaping mouth. I could feel the tears of joy coming faster. He pulled a small black box out of his pocket and opened it.

"So, Elizabeth Leah Ashton, will you marry me?" He asked.

The tears of joy fell. I could barely do anything but finally was able to nod my head. A huge smile spread across my face.

"Yes! A million times yes!" I screamed.

He picked me up and pulled me into a passionate kiss. As soon as we were out of breath he set me down and pulled the ring out of the box. He slipped it onto my finger and kissed me again. He held me waist and I had my arms around his neck.

"I love you so much." He whispered against my lips.

"I am so crazy in love with you and I can't wait to marry you." I told him in a whisper.

He brought my lips to his again and kissed me passionately. He took my hand and led me out of the room. We walked down the hall hand in hand, fingers intertwined. As soon as we walked outside everyone's heads turned to us.

"Did she say yes?" Miranda instantly asked.

I nodded my head, a wide grin spread across my face. The girls squealed and the guys cheered. Everyone pulled us into a hug but all I could think about was that I was going to marry Liam. The boy I had met 18 years ago today. My best friend. The love of my life. There is not a single person on this planet that I'd rather marry. And by the look on his face right now, the way his eyes were only on me, I knew he felt the exact same way.
