14. Live While We're Young

He pulled up on a side street, put a couple euro into a machine for parking before locking the doors, taking my hand and leading me away. I knew we were someplace near the Thames and as we kept walking, my curiosity kept growing. But Harry wouldn’t budge. If I couldn’t figure out where we were going myself, then he wasn’t going to tell me.

Which really wasn’t fair, but I didn’t complain. I don’t mind surprises when you only have to wait a couple minutes for them.

“Do you live round here?” I asked, glancing down the street to see the flats lined up next to several restaurants.

He chuckled. “No, too busy for my taste. I live near Soho.”

I knew enough about the districts of London to know that Soho was one of the more expensive places. When I told him as such, he grinned like a Cheshire cat.

“It is, I’ll admit, but I think you’d like it. Maybe I’ll show you sometime.”

I felt the heat rise to my face at his words. He may have been ready that but I didn’t know if I was.

We walked in silence for a couple minutes, just enjoying each other’s company. Our footsteps echoed around us and despite holding Harry’s hand and being awfully close to him, I felt calm and at ease.

As we rounded a corner, I took in our surroundings again. “Where-?!”

“There, look,” Harry said, pointing to the right of us.

There, at the end of the street sat an overly large ferris wheel like thing. Next to it was the River Thames.

“Is that-?”

Harry finished my sentence again. “The London Eye.” He smiled proudly. “The best destination around London, I think.”

I faintly wondered if I would suddenly have a fear of heights. I had never liked ferris wheels but this looked a lot sturdier. I had been on top of tall buildings before but this looked gigantic.

“You look a little nervous, Court. Are you alright?”

He must have noticed my look of panic but I brought a smile to my face for him.

“Yeah, I’m alright. Let’s go on an adventure!”

Harry bought our tickets, much to my protest. His argument was that he was planning the date so that he should have to pay. My argument was that he paid for dinner so I should pay for the tickets. And thus ensued our disagreement.

“Nope, Court, I’m not letting you pay.” He smiled as my face turned into a frown.

We were ushered into one of the lift domes, if that’s what you wanted to call them. There were still a couple people behind us but Harry stated that he bought us private tickets.

“Courtney, you look a little pale.”

I laughed at his statement. “I’ve never been that high up before,” I said, pointing to the pods above us. “Other than in an airplane.”

“Are you afraid of heights?”

“I don’t think so.”

He smiled brightly. “Then there’s no problems.”

“This is kind of exciting,” I said, looking over as we slowly started to ascend. “I wonder how long this is.”

“Around 30 minutes I believe.” Harry winked at me. “I timed it before.”

“Well don’t you have all the time in the world!” I laughed at his fake hurt expression.

After about 15 minutes we were nearly at the highest point. The view was outstanding and Harry pointed out the other tourist attractions that he was planning to take me to. Or, at least, the outlines of them, for it was getting darker and was getting harder to see them.

“Do you want a picture?” he asked, motioning to the world outside.

“Oh, yes! That is a brilliant idea!” I said, an excited tone in my voice.

He pulled out his phone and took a multitude of pictures of me.

“Did you want a photo?” I asked.

He shook his head. “No, don’t worry,” Harry assured me with a smile. “I come up here all the time, I’ve got enough photos of London.”

“You come here all the time?” I could feel my eyes widening in disbelief. “Don’t your fans mob you?”

My words earned me a laugh. He seemed to love doing that around me, because I really wasn’t that funny. “Not at night. I come here usually right before it closes for the last turnabout. No one sees you then.”

“And you come alone?”

“I do, but not in the way you’re thinking. I love hanging out with the guys and my fans but sometimes you just need a minute to stop and relax. It’s like that saying; the one about the flowers? You have to smell them along the way or you’ll miss everything. This is my spot for smelling the flowers.”

“I think that saying was more if you’re travelling.”

Harry shook his head. “My life gets busy and hectic and by coming here, I have 30 minutes where it’s just silence. It’s me and London. I can think of all the great things I’ve done during the day and all the great things I’m going to be doing tomorrow.”

“But what happens when you’re not in London? You’re in Rome or Paris or L.A? They don’t have a Rome Eye.”

“No,” he said, agreeing with my words. “But they have other places that are high up and usually pretty quiet. It’s not just about London, it’s about finding that moment in the busy day for peace and tranquility.

“Wow,” I said, feeling at a loss for words. “That’s really deep, Harry.”

His cheeks turned pink as he stared at the ground. “That’s why it’s important to me for you to see all these things. Because otherwise you’ll have missed out on them and wonder where the time went. You’re not young forever.”

As the words left his mouth, he casually took my hands in both of his. I couldn’t help but feel and see the differences between the two. He gently ran his fingertips over them and it felt wonderful. When he continued to speak, his eyes found mine and he held them.

“I don’t know what this is, Courtney, and I sure as hell don’t know where this is going or how long it will last but I don’t want to waste a minute of it. I want you to have a good time in London and I want that to be because of me. I want you to come here and think ‘I had the best time with that one bloke and it was absolutely magical’.”

I couldn’t help the smile and blush that came to my face at his words. They were utterly sweet and moving.

I leaned in and taking a chance, gave him a quick peck on the cheek. As I rested my head on his shoulder, I heard him let out a soft sigh.

“Courtney, you are one of a kind.”

“I could say the same about you, Mr. Styles.”

A/N:

Just so no one is confused in the later chapters, I've changed a couple things in the timeline of Harry's life.

The story starts at the end of 2012 and goes through 2013 with their Take Me Home tour.

Harry and Taylor would have dated early 2012 instead of 2013.

Questions? Wanna tell me if this story is good or not? Anything you don't like? Leave a comment!! I love knowing what you guys think.
