Luck & Love {A Harry Syles Fan Fiction}

Courtney is dragged to a concert by her younger sister and by fate meets Harry. She doesn't know him and doesn't listen to his music but he enjoys her company and witty remarks. When she goes to visit her mum in London, he can't help but want to go home every chance he gets. Harry charms her in every way but she can't help thinking of her old flame, Elijah, and the broken heart that came along with it.

11. Harry VS Elijah?

“Is he coming by?” Kam asked excitedly, almost bouncing up and down.

“Yeah, if that’s alright mum?”

“Of course!” she smiled, pushing hair out of my face. “Did he say when he would come by?”

I frowned. “No, he never specified. He just asked if it would be alright if he did.”

“Well, when he comes by-“ she began, before the light jingle of the bell signalled a customer. We all turned to see none other than Harry Styles standing in the doorway, looking unsure.

“I’d love to meet him,” mum finished, her heels clicking as she walked over to him, extending her hand. “I’m Annabelle Williams,” I heard her say. “What can I help you with today?”

The blood rushed to my face as I realised that my mother didn’t know who Harry was. She was talking to him like a customer, her bracelets jingling on her arm.

The next thing I realised was that compared to my mother I was seriously underdressed.

She was in a modest black pencil skirt with a colourful lavender blouse, her hair in neat and perfect curls, her makeup done with precise hands. Her heels made her legs look longer and her body regal.

I had put little effort into my outfit. I was wearing a pair of dark blue jeans and a plain white blouse, my hair in a tight ponytail with my burgundy glasses on. I was wearing a pair of black knee high boots and had not one scrap of makeup on.

All I wanted to do was crawl into a hole and die. How could I face Harry like this? I wanted to impress him, not drive him away screaming.

I could tell Kam was thinking the same thing as she frantically popped gum into her mouth and straightened her blue beetles t-shirt.

With all the courage I could muster, I walked over to my mum and Harry. “Harry, this is my mum.” I said, motioning from him to her. “Mum, this is Harry Styles.”

My mother’s eyes widened at my words, as if she was just seeing him for the first time. She scanned him up and down, taking in his appearance. He was wearing tight dark blue skinny jeans, a pair of dark brown loafers, a plain white t-shirt with a leather jacket that looked new but worn down. Atop his head sat a grey beanie, covering most of his hair, except for the scraggly couple of locks that escaped it.

All in all, he looked like a well-dressed model, ready for a fashion show.

Harry’s eyes darted quickly to e with a questioning look before meeting my mother’s once more.

My mother gave a quick nod and a smile before speaking. “Very nice to meet you Harry. So sorry about before, I hardly recognized you.”

I had to admit, my mother was smoother than I gave her credit for.

“Nice to meet you as well, Mrs. Williams.”

My mother grinned at her name. “Call me Annabeth, please.”

Harry looked a little more calm when he turned towards me, his signature carefree smile plastered on his face. I in turn cleared my throat, signalling to my mother that she should leave. Instead she rolled her eyes at me.

“It’s noon, Court. If you wanted to go and have lunch-“

“That sounds wonderful,” I said quickly, taking her cue that I was free to leave. I looked to Harry for confirmation, hoping he would think the same.

He frowned. “I’m sorry, Courtney, but I’m kind of packed today.” He glanced back at my mother nervously.

“No worries, Harry,” I tried to keep the hurt and confusion out of my voice. “I understand. Popstar and all.”

Harry took me by surprise as he excused us from my mother, took my hand and pulled me aside, away from my mother’s astonished look and Kam’s eavesdropping.

“I really don’t have time today, Courtney, and I really am sorry. I just wanted to drop in and see if you had gotten my flowers.”

I tried not to get disappointed at his words. He didn’t want to come see me, I had gotten my hopes up for nothing and now it left me in a place that I didn’t want to be. It brought up feelings that I hadn’t felt since Elijah.

Elijah had been so nice and perfect in the beginning. He spoiled me, brought me flowers and chocolates, took me out to nice dinners, had special movie dates, anything that I wanted he was more than happy to give. He adored Kam and her mischievous ways and looked up to my father for his creativeness and perseverance. Elijah was gentle and kind, caring and protective. I couldn’t believe that I had found someone so special and couldn’t believe how he had wiggled his way into my heart so quickly. I let defenses down around him, I found I could be myself around him and didn’t worry about what he thought because he loved me for me. We would lay next to each other and talk about everything we wanted from life. Our futures. Our plans.

Then it was like a switch was flipped.

He wouldn’t talk to me, he wouldn’t phone me, he didn’t seem interested in anything anymore. It took all of my effort just to get a smile out of him and even that didn’t seem worth it. When he said he just lost feelings for me, it literally broke my heart. Elijah tried to explain that it was him, that he had lost focus of what really mattered; his schooling and his family.

And silly me, I let him wander away.

Harry brought me back to reality by placing his hand on my cheek. It took all of my willpower not to cringe away from his touch. It reminded me too much of Elijah.

“Don’t worry, Harry. It’s okay-“

“But I also wanted to ask if you were free tomorrow night.”

This was it, the moment that I had been waiting for the past few days to happen. Harry was asking to take me out and deep down I knew I should be excited. I was at a loss for words. Maybe Harry wasn’t like Elijah.

Harry took both of my hands in his and looked into my eyes when he spoke. “I’ve been thinking about you since I’ve arrived in London. Hell, since you fainted in Vancouver. I can’t get you out of my head and all I want is to spend time with you Courtney. I know this sounds really stupid, but you make me feel sane in my hectic world. So please stop staring at me like I’ve got 3 eyes and say you’ll let me take you to dinner.”

I took all of my willpower not to let the large smile explode on my face. “Yes, of course.”

That’s it? That was all I could come up with when Harry asked me out for an evening? Did he consider this like two friends hanging out or was this supposed to be a romantic date?

Hold up, Courtney. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

As I smiled at Harry and as he smiled back, I couldn’t help but think of Elijah and how they really were different. Harry was nothing like him, I decided.

“I have to go,” Harry said, glancing at his sleek black watch. “But I’ll pick you up tomorrow at 6?”

“Sure, I’ll text you the address.”

As Harry kissed me on the cheek, waved goodbye and walked out the door, Kameron came running over to me and screamed into my ear.
