17. Dress Hunting

Later that night, I walked over to Kameron’s door and knocked.

She answered in a pair of sweats and a bra, while holding a pile of clothes in both hands. Her hair was in a tight bun and her makeup was heavy and dark. She looked mysterious and elusive to me and probably wanted to come off as older and sophisticated for a British guy.

“I need help!” I exclaimed, panicking slightly. “I don’t know what to wear!”

Kam scoffed, looking at my present outfit, which was a pair of jeans and a t shirt.

“Well, you’re definitely on the wrong track.”

“Help me!”

She held up her own clothes. I’ve got my own problems! Go to mom’s closet and see if she has anything good,” she suggested before closing the door in my face.

I grunted in frustration before taking out my phone and calling mum. She picked up on the second ring.

“Hi honey, what’s wrong?”

“Can I go into your closet to look for something to wear to Harry’s tonight?”

My mother laughed. “Can’t find anything to wear?”

“Nothing nice,” I complained. “And Kam won’t help.”

She laughed again before speaking. “Bring your small car to the shop. I’m sure we can find you something.”

“Alright, I’ll see you in half an hour.”

Hanging up the phone I pounded on Kam’s door again. She opened it with a frown on her face and now sporting only a bra and underwear.

“What now?”

“I’m going to the boutique. Mum said she’s going to find me something there. Did you want to come?”

Kam shook her head. “No, I’m going to stay here.”

I shrugged and headed to my room. Grabbing a jacket and my purse, I stepped into some Toms before heading down to the street and hopping into the car mum had gotten me. I sped off towards the boutique and true to my words I was there in 30 minutes.

When I arrived, mum was already standing at the door waiting to usher me in. She locked the door and led me down the hall to the main ‘focus’ room, where they designed and made all the clothes. There were a bundle of people standing around what I presumed to be the bride, for she was wearing a white dress.

I was astonished at the dress for it was truly a work of art. It had a sweetheart top with a pattern of glittering jewels on it. The bodice was tight and expanded around her knees, going out to soft waves of light fabric. On the back there was a laced up fitting that was tied into a perfect type bow.

“Wow, mum. You’ve really outdone yourself this time.”

My mother smiled and patted me on the back. “If only I could take the credit,” she said wistfully. “That’s Kam’s design.”

I was speechless. “Holy shit, she’s gotten good.”

My mother laughed, bringing the army of women’s attention towards us.

“Ladies, this is my daughter, Courtney. She’s just popping in for a moment.”

Suddenly I was surrounded by the horde, all of them pinching my cheeks, patting my hair and giving me complements.

“Such a lovely face-“

“What beautiful complexion-“

“My, you are a beauty-“

When they finally decided to stop fussing over me, they turned their attention back to the bride.

“Alright Court, in the back room there’s a couple of racks with various outfits on them. Just find the rack that has your size and choose anything from there. Just make sure you let me know what you take before you leave so that I can have it dry cleaned before the show next month.”

“Sounds good, mum, thanks!”

Turning away from the chaos that was the bridal party, I made my way to the door that I knew led towards the back room, which held all the outfits deemed worthy by my mother.

Inside the room were about 10 racks full of outfits. I searched for the ones that had my size and started sifting through them, looking for the perfect dress.

Hey guys! Sorry for the two short chapters, I had actually written it as one but decided to make it split into two.

Let me know your thoughts on this story/characters/plot line/chapter and for every comment that's left for this chapter I'll write 500 words for the next one. How does that sound? It should end up being a longer one.
