16. 5 years earlier- Safety

“How are we surrounded,” I said angrily, “I thought you had checked we were safe.”

“I did but sometimes people make mistakes ok it’s not my fault,” Rebecca snapped as the monsters banged on the glass trying to get into us.

“Keep packing the stuff,” I said urgently, “Don’t stop just keep going through the list and don’t stop.”

“Are you crazy?” Rebecca said panicking, “They are going to kill us why just sit here and keep shopping.”

“Just trust me ok,” I said as I carried on packing while listening to the monsters trying to break down the glass doors. So we both carried on packing and eventually we were done.

“Right now what,” Rebecca asked and I could tell she was scared as her voice wavered, “What is your brilliant plan eh?”

“Head to the back,” I muttered so we walked to the back of the shop and sure enough as I had hoped there was a door standing unlocked in the back room. I pushed the door open quietly and stepped outside. I put a finger to my lips and Rebecca nodded and we started walking.

“We won’t make it back,” Rebecca whispered, “They will see us won’t they.”

“I have been studying a map,” I whispered, “I know a shortcut follow me.” So we both went down a narrow alleyway and after a while we reached an alleyway that led back to the house. Checking that the coast was clear I walked up to the house and quickly entered with Rebecca at my heels.

“What took you so long?” Miranda said sounding worried, “We thought you were dead.”

“We got into a bit of trouble with the monsters,” Rebecca said frowning, “If it wasn’t for Angel we would be dead she is great at quick thinking.”

“Is that true Angel?” Josie said walking in sounding shocked.

“Erm yeah I guess so,” I said blushing it was really embarrassing to be called a hero I was so used to being called a failure.

“Oh Angel that’s amazing,” Mason said walking in with Lucas smiling.

“Yeah you have a great talent you know,” Lucas said smiling at me his once cold hard eyes all warm and soft he looked me directly in the eyes. I realised that the others had been right now that he had got to know me Lucas wasn’t being mean or hard on me he liked me and was happy that I was part of the team.

“Erm thank you that is very kind of you,” I said feeling slightly embarrassed that this had been brought up.

“Well I guess this has been an eventful day,” Mason said, “So let’s go get some tea.
