We stood there standing our ground staring each other down. How was I going to get away from here without her hunting me down and killing me just like she had my sister?

“Well go on then come and get me,” the monster said laughing, “Or you could run away like the wimp you are eh.” She stared at me with cold unforgiving eyes the last thing I wanted was to fight her not while she still had my mother’s face but even I couldn’t find a way to escape this without her following me.

“Nope I’m good thanks I don’t want to run,” I said yawning loudly, “However I don’t want to fight you either so you know hard luck for you.” I smiled at the monster and then walked towards her cautiously as she crept closer to me. I knew that my plan would never work if she got too close so I edged towards her slowly judging her every move.

“Oh come on girl,” the monster said quickly closing the gap between us, “I don’t have all day to do this I have other people to kill today as well.” I cursed and stepped closer and closer until I was standing right in front of her.

“Hiya how are you doing,” I said as if every day you met a murderous zombie, “Well if you want to get this over with then I would be more than happy too.” As if on cue I ducked down and swiped my leg across the ground knocking her backwards. I didn’t think I grabbed a handful of dirt and chucked it into her eyes. Once she couldn’t see I stood up and ran grabbing my stuff as I packed the camp me and my sister had made then I kept on running.

I made it to the other side of the forest and kept running on to the nearest town I didn’t stop running until I ran directly into a young broad shouldered man.

“Hey calm down,” the man said as he pulled me up and glanced around checking for the monsters, “I’m not a monster I’m human just like you are well I hope you are anyway.” I looked into his grey eyes and smiled.

“Yeah I’m human as well so you want to team up,” I said sighing, “Cause trust me I’ve had a long day, my mother killed my sister then tried to kill me so I could do with somewhere to rest my head for the night.” He looked up at me and nodded and then he frowned.

“Yeah I have somewhere you can stay tonight,” he said still glancing around the street, “But we will have to move now before they come back ok.”

“Yeah no problem you obviously know the place so you lead the way and I’ll follow,” I said smiling as he took off into the shadows, “So where are we or do you not know either.”

“Where we are,” the boy smiled, “Why we are in Durham my dear or what’s left of it anyway.”
