The Other Sister

Jasmine Everdeen; the most perfect teenage girl that there is. She is the nicest, smartest, funniest and prettiest girl you could ever met. Everybody knows her.
But everything seems the opposite for her new stepsister, Eva. Will Eva's troublesome past effect her with love, new family, friends..?

5. 1st and 2nd period

We finally reached the school and we all went our separate ways; Harry to his history class, Liam and Diana to Poetry and Niall to his math class. I, in the other hand, took Eva to the office so she can get her schedule.

I told the lady behind the desk we wanted to get Eva's schedule.
"Name please?" She asked. I looked over to Eva, hoping she would answer for herself.

"Eva. Eva Anderson." Anderson? That's Eva's last name? I didn't expect it to be that. I was assuming it would be something uncommon.

"Ok I found you in the schools system and now I'm printing it out. You can sit down and I'll call you up when it's done" she explained.

We both walked over towards the chairs.
"So this is your school huh?" She asked.

"Yup." I answered. It was so quiet between us. I could actually feel the awkwardness.

"Hey listen I'm gonna go to my home room. I'll see you at lunch" I said standing up.

"Lunch?" Eva asked.
"Yea. Well because I most likely have more advanced classes than you. All of my classes are pre-ap, and you might not be exactly in the same level as I am, you know, academically" I said.

"Oh really?" She said, rolling her eyes. Now I feel horrible, I didn't realize how harsh I sounded until now.

"Yea..... Um so I'll see you at like lunch or something." I said leaving the main office. I felt bad but she deserved it. It was actually the best, rudest thing I ever said towards any one; and I feel that knowing Eva, it most likely won't be the last.

I finally arrived to my first class; pre-ap math.

"And so what you do here is- oh hi Jasmine. You're late, why is that?" Mrs.Fairchild asked.

"Uhh... It's a family thing" I answered, taking my seat in the front.

"Ok then. Jasmine we're going over last night's homework" Mrs.Fairchild explained. I pulled out my paper and stared at the board as she wrote down one of the equations.

"Hey." Wendy, one of my friends, whispered behind me. We knew each other since 4th grade but we aren't as close as most might think we would be.

"What did you do this weekend?"
"family." I answered.

"Jasmine. You already came late, don't start the morning off bad by getting in trouble by talking. You too Wendy" said Mrs.Fairchild with annoyance in her voice.

I apologized and stared at the board again until she looked away from me.

"What did you do?" I whispered to Wendy.
"Same. Just at..." She paused. She seemed to stare at something. The room grew quiet. Something was wrong. I slowly turned around, expecting an angry Mrs.Fairchild frowning upon me.

Instead, I saw her again. Eva. She stood outside the door knocking on the door, handling a piece of paper. No, no no no,she can't be in this class.

Mrs.Fairchild stopped the class once again as she walked over to the door. She stepped outside the class and began to have a conversation with Eva. The class started talking out loud to their friends.

"Who the heck is she?" Wendy said.
"I-I don't know" I lied.
"She's probably new"
"Really? I couldn't tell" I said jokingly.
"Haha, very funny" Wendy said sarcastically before we both burst we out laughing.

We put our conversation to an end, so did the rest of the class, as Mrs.Fairchild lead Eva towards her desk, handing her another piece of paper.

"Pick a seat wherever you want to" Mrs.Fairchild told Eva. Mrs.Fairchild turned back towards the board and continued to teach the class. Eva looked at me before walking down my isle.

"I don't think I'll be able to keep up, you know, this class being advance and all" Eva whispered towards me with a evil smile. I stayed quiet and turned around to see where she would be sitting at. She chose the empty desk in the very back of the room, next to the window. She seemed to have everybody's eyes on her. She looked up from the floor and smiled at me,"too advanced" she mouthed at me. I quickly turned around and focused on the lesson.

"What was that? I thought you didn't know her" Wendy whispered, leaning forward so she made sure I could hear her. I ignored her and tried to focus on the lesson, but I can't stand the fact that Eva is in this class.

The bell finally rang, indicating 1st period to be over. I tried to walk as fast as I could to my locker to avoid Eva. I quickly replaced my math book and traded it for my science one.

"Hey babe" Harry came up to me before kissing my cheek.
"Huh? Oh hi" I said trying to get my other stuff for science.

"What's wrong?" Harry says, turning my shoulders to face him.
"I have Eva for my class" I sighed. His concerned face transitions to a pity look.

"Harry, we started this day off bad. And I know that somehow she's gonna embarrass me. I have a feeling that she has it bad for me. I didn't even do anything to her. I try to be nice and she just gets mean and" I say in one breath.
"Babe, slow down," Harry laughs,"it's just been a weekend and one Monday. Give her some time. I mean, well she's an only daughter, right? Maybe she isn't used to the idea of you being her step sister. Just give her some time and I promise she'll turn out to be great ok? I have to go babe. I'll see you at lunch" Harry finishes as we give each other a quick kiss on the lips. He always has his way to make me feel better. That's why we're together ,I guess, helping each other out. I don't think that we've had a bad day.

I checked once more to make sure I have my supplies before walking upstairs for my next class.

I hurried into the classroom and made it to my seat just in time for the bell to ring. I was too busy taking out my notes from Friday to see if Niall was in the back. Science is the only class I have with him, i used to have gym with last semester but since 2nd semester started this is our only class together.

"Ladies and Gentleman, as you are getting settled I have a few announcements to make," Mr.Maxwell began,"first off projects from last week are due tomorrow. And second we have a new student."

Oh no. God no.

"Eva, will you please come up here." I turned around in my seat and saw both Niall and Eva, they sat together, they're lab partners I guess. But that doesn't mean anything, well it does. Niall seemed to think of Eva something bad, from this morning constant glances at her. Niall is the type of guy who has much to say but doesn't exactly know how to say it.

"Um, Eva will you introduce yourself please" Mr.Maxwell spoke.

"Um, the name is Eva. And... and yea..." Eva said, making parts of the class laugh.

"Haha ok then, um class any questions for Eva?" Maxwell gestured towards the class.

No one had their hands raised immediately, but after several seconds hands began to be raised.
"Favorite thing to do?" And Irish accent said. Niall; why would he ask her something?

She seemed to smile to herself before answering,"nothing really"

"How so?" Miguel, my lab partner, asked.
"I like many things, many people, but I don't like sharing my interest to people I may not even talk to. People who might not even be interested for the things I care for. So why should I waste my time telling people what I like or do?"

"Ok Eva that's enough.." Mr.Maxwell said nervously

"That's why I don't like saying stuff like this. Because people don't have time or the patients to listen to me. They always rush me to finish." She said, obviously towards Maxwell "I don't like sharing if people don't have the time. So it's better to say stuff like 'nothing' or 'I don't know' when people won't even remember what I say; for people who won't remember me, how I look, or even my name." She said walking slowly over towards her seat.

"Uh.. Ok let's just begin class"the teacher said, unsure how to react to Eva's short speech. That's the most she ever said. To me, to my dad, to anyone I assume. I just, I didn't expect to hear that. But, he was right. Many people say things but nobody bothers to listen. But....the thing is...why did she say it like that? Why did she say it like nobody cared? She said it like she was talking to herself. She didn't make eye contact to anybody, she just looked straight forward; as if she said it towards a mirror. She sounded like she spent the longest time practicing this.

Did she practice this? Did she even know this was going to happen?
