10. Chapter 10

It took me a few minutes to realize that I had momentarily stopped breathing. Niall's eyes widened, then his face softened.

"Wha..? You... but.." I covered my mouth in shock. Kayleigh looked to the ground.

"I was never supposed to tell you." She whispered.

"Why?" I asked.

"Mom and Dad didn't want you telling everyone at school." Kayleigh shuffled her feet. I threw my arms up in disbelief.

"Proof they don't trust me." I hollered. Kayleigh looked up at me.

"I don't blame them." She said firmly.

"I would never tell anyone about this. Ever. I swear on my life." I said, crossing my heart.

"And if you tell anyone, you lose your life." Kayleigh growled, pacing back and forth. She stopped to look at me. I nodded, assuring her.

"I'm so sorry, Kayleigh." Niall spoke up, pressing the palm of his hand to his heart. His soft, blue eyes met with mine, and I quickly glanced away. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Niall stand up.

"You two need to come with me, NOW." His voice shook.

"Wha- why?" Kayleigh's face twisted and her eyes became dark. Panic rose in my stomach. Niall grabbed both of our arms and pulled us out of the cramped hospital room. Behind me, a loud rumbling noise filled my ears. Kayleigh screamed and we all fell to the ground. It took me a minute to process what was going on, but the minute glass sparked in my back, I knew it wasn't good. Niall pulled me closer, and I opened my eyes to see Kayleigh burying her head in Niall's chest.

A voice whispered in my ear, making me shiver.

I looked to the side to see Harry's cold face standing next to me. My hearing was clogged, and everything seemed muffled. Empty screams echoed from the room. I pulled away from Niall and without order, my feet took off. I felt off balance, my mind was spinning. My feet were clumsily placed on the floor, one following the other. I turned my head around. The whole wall seemed to come closer. A muffled boom filled my ears. I screamed in horror as I saw Niall, Harry, and Kayleigh fly forward. I was shot back, slamming into a chair. I closed my eyes and held on. Little bits off glass and wood shot into my skin. I clenched my teeth in pain.

Moments later, I finally dared to open my eyes. I scanned the area. Harry lay beside me, his arm bent in a funny shape. I bent down beside him. A small groan escaped his lips. I smiled, reassured that he was still alive.

"Paige." A thick, Irish accent called. I turned my head to see Niall, who was stirring. He sat up, groaning. Dark red spilled down his cheek. A fresh cut lay just above his eyebrow.

"Niall." I could feel my eyes tearing up, although I wasn't sure why. I ran to him, embracing him.

"What happened?" I asked, pulling back. He held onto my shoulders, and I winced from the pain. His grip loosened before he looked to the ground.

"I saw him throw the bomb." He whispered. "I had to get you two out of there. We made it right before the hospital room exploded. I think he had a gun, because he shot through the glass. I'm not so sure who it hit, however."

That explained the glass I felt hit my back. But as he said "you two", my stomach dropped.

"Kayleigh." I whispered. I stood up, the blood flowing away from my head. A few feet away from us lay my sister, my once gorgeous sister with soft green eyes and silky brown hair. Her features were now twisted, and her arm was bleeding.

"You go help Harry. I'll dial 911 if nobody has already, and I'll also help Kayleigh." Suddenly, all my hatred for my sister was gone. As I saw her body lying on the ground, I realize she did nothing wrong. It was all my fault. This would of never happened if I never stole the backstage passes. None of this would of happened if I just was good. A loud wail escaped my lips as I sat beside Kayleigh. I took out my phone and dialed 911. I explained the story and moments later, multiple policemen and fire fighters ran into the room. A few people carried stretchers.

I looked over at Kayleigh once more. Her head was face downward, her hair in a big mop around her head. Two men ran to her and shooed me away. They lifted her up on the stretcher and the last thing I saw before they headed out of the room was her face.

She had no left eye.

Niall's POV

Two hours later I sat next to Paige at the hospital. I glanced over at her. Her face was buried in her hands. Muffled sobs came from her. I debated whether to comfort her or not. Sure, she lied to us, but she was so beautiful sitting there. Her chocolate brown hair fell neatly around her shoulders. However, it did not seem like the right time to wrap my arms around her. Instead, I rested my hand on her shoulder. She glanced up at me, her eyes wide.

"Hey." I whispered, a small smile planted on my face.

"Hi." Her voice croaked.

"They'll be okay. Both of them. It won't ever be the same, but they will be okay." I assured her. She leaned her head on my shoulder. A glassy tear fell down her cheek. I wiped it away with my sleeve.

"I never thought you, Niall Horan, would see me cry." She laughed through her tears. I chuckled along with her.

"Hard to believe." I whispered. She nodded and closed her eyes.

A few minutes later, the doctor, a clean man with a dark mustache, ambled over to us. His eyes were clouded, his expression hidden.

"Niall Horan and Paige Dray?" He asked. We nodded. Paige sat up. Her eyes were swollen from crying, tears stained on her cheeks. The doctor beckoned us towards him. Paige and I exchanged looks before I stood up. She stood next to me. I reached down and grabbed her hand. She locked her fingers with mine, clenching onto my hand tightly. We followed the doctor into a room. Harry lay in a bed, grinning happily at us.

"Hi!" He waved to us. I laughed, but Paige was silent. Then I realized Harry didn't know the truth yet. She glanced up at me, her eyes filled with worry. I nodded to her, assuring her I would explain. She was going through a rough time. We'd talk to her later.

I sat down by Harry's bed, Paige next to me. She wouldn't let go of my hand, but I didn't mind. I explained everything to Harry. He listened the whole time, his face unreadable. When I finished, Paige ducked her head, ashamed. Harry's eyes shot over to the girl.

"Why, Paige?" He said softly. His eyes were now glossy, and he seemed uneasy. Paige looked up. New tears had formed in her eyes.

"I'm sorry... I- I just was tired of being treated like a nobody. This was my chance to change that." She stuttered on her words. Harry nodded, but said nothing.

"I feel like an idiot now. If I hadn't done this, no one would be hurt." She looked down.

"Atomic Bomb was the one who set off... well... the bomb." Harry shrugged. "I tried to run back to warn you guys, but it was too late. So yeah, you're right, if you hadn't done that we wouldn't be in this mess. And you are an idiot." His tone was harsh, and I shot him a warning glare. He narrowed his eyes. "I never want to see you again, Paige. Get out of here. I don't want to see your face ever again in my entire life." Paige stood, frozen in shock. "GET OUT!" Harry pointed to the doorway, his hand shaking. She turned away.

"I'm going to visit Kayleigh." She let go of my hand and stormed out of the room.

"Wow, Harry. Just wow." I narrowed my eyes and stood up, following Paige out of the room.
