20. Trouble

"DAL? DAL?! DAL, WHERE ARE YOU?!" Lucy screamed, sobbing in despair as she searched every corner of the house, every tiny little hidey-hole. But Dal was gone and Lucy knew it.

If only Andrew were here, she found herself thinking. And with that, ignoring the fact that they had split up, she grabbed her phone and punched in his number, tears still rolling down her thin face.

Sitting in his hotel room, waiting for 4:30 that afternoon- the time he was meeting Lucy to figure out more about the money arrangements -  Andrew heard his phone ringing. Sighing, he shuffled over to it in the plain slippers provided by the company and picked it up. A slight shiver ran through him when he saw the screen: Incoming Call: Lucy. What could she want now? It could be important...but he was angry with her. He was sick of how she couldn't do anything for herself. That anger boiled up again and he dismissed whatever doubts he had felt about cutting her off.

Beep. He selected 'End Call'. Whatever it was would just have to wait.

The grasses of the field tickled Dal's legs as she made her way over to the stile on the other side. It was time to move further and anywhere was good enough, really. It also helped that Dal had worked out that if she kept going this way, she would end up at the big Sainsbury's shop that she had always gone to with her mum for the weekly shop. Her mum...

"Shut up. I don't need her right now, thank you very much!" She said, stomping forward triumphantly, "In fact, I don't need anyone!". And with those words reverberating abound her head, she clambered up and over the wooden stile and into the next field.

Who knew what lay ahead?
