11. The Train Ride Home

I'm back on the Hogwarts Express again! The first term has gone so quickly, I can't even think of what we have been doing! Terry is going home for Christmas as well, so we got a compartment together near the back of the train. It's a bit quieter here which is good. Sitting by the window, I stared out at the passing trees and fields, they were so open and free.

"Um, Alyssa?", Terry suddenly said.

"Yeah?"

"Can I ask you something?" I wasn't sure how to reply to this, if he wanted to ask me something, then it must be a bit.. awkward? Otherwise, why else would he ask permission to ask something? Um, now I've just confused myself, ask to ask something... oops. Terry is staring at me. Oh! Right! He's waiting for an answer.

"Sure", I replied with a small smile.

"Well, you see, you don't have to answer me if you don't want to but... I was just wondering how you got those scars on your face? I mean, I just keep noticing them and my brain is really curious...". You get the idea. he just rambled on for a moment until realizing that if he wanted an answer then he would have to shut up! Meanwhile, I had felt the smile slip of my face. I knew he would ask at some point. Turning to the side, I faced out the window again. After a few moments of one of the most awkward silences in history, Terry realized I wan't going to answer.

"Um, toilet", he muttered and practically ran out the compartment! Guess he isn't good with awkwardness either then. But it was his fault. We haven't talked about them before so it should be pretty obvious I don't like them! I know it's stupid, but I started to feel quite angry with everyone. Why did they all feel the need to pry into my private life? What's your last name? Where did you live? Why do you have scars? It is none of their business. None!

Terry didn't come back for an hour. I guess he had to in the end because his bag was here. We didn't actually talk for the rest of the ride home. It was only when we finally pulled into the station that my brain realized that I didn't even have a plan of where to go or what to do. Improvise is always good. You know, this train was build my magical people, couldn't they have made it go a bit faster? I heard a small "Bye, have a good Christmas." Behind me and span round to see Terry leaving. "You too!" I called after him, and carried on trying to get my trunk down.

After struggling to get my trunk onto the platform, I realized how stupid I had been to bring my trunk. Now I would have to drag it around with me, unless I just left it on the platform or the train. I'm sure someone would send it back to Hogwarts in the end. Actually no, I couldn't do that. But I could...

"Are you all right dear?" I jumped and tensed up at someone spoke next to me. After spinning round I realized that it was just the mother someone.

"I was watching you and you don't seem to know where to go, are your parents here?" Quick, my brain said, improvise... now.

"Oh um", I started. Wow, great improvising. "I just got an owl from my mum and she said to meet her round the corner, she doesn't like crowds you see. Only, actually I was just wondering if you could help me? My trunk is a bit heavy to carry, even just round the corner, I'm not very strong. I would do it myself, but..." Okay, shut up, shut up now. I tried to look innocent and confident but I think my rambling hadn't fooled her.

"I see." She replied. "Of course, but are you sure you will be okay, it's not good for someone like you to be wandering the muggle streets at his time of day." I Just nodded and smiled. She flicked her wand at my trunk which became feather light. God, that was so much better!

"Thank you so much! But I really must go now, my mum will start to worry." I quickly scampered off towards the platform barrier. Glancing back I saw the woman talking to a man, they were both looking at me and gesturing around. Guess I just start to move, I obviously hadn't convinced her!
