Change My Mind

I don’t know if I’ll ever love someone as great as Harry so that’s why I never want to forget this feeling. That’s why I’m scared of moving on. I don’t want to forget what it feels like to be in love with Harry Styles, especially the feeling I got when Harry Styles used to love me back.

16. You Make Me Happy

Lily’s POV

Perrie swipes a strip of red nail polish across my thumb nail as I sit there and wait for their verdict. The minute that I walked in, they immediately shot millions of questions at me. Of course, all relating to Harry.

I had to tell them. I needed their advice. I would be so lost navigating through whatever I have with Harry right now. My last relationship was a bust so I needed their expertise when it came to relationships to help me through this. So I told them everything that happened. The club, taking me home, this morning and lastly, what happened at the elevator.

“Wow, that sounds like something that came from a romance movie,” Eleanor gushes, clutching her hands over her heart.

I laugh and roll my eyes.

“Yeah and like what happens in every movie, the girl messes up because she’s so messed up from her last relationship and she ruins everything.”

Perrie looks up from my hands and, along with Eleanor, they give me a sympathetic look.

“Oh, sweetie. You know that’s not true,” Perrie says, getting up from her seat on the floor and taking a seat on the couch beside me. “Like you said, Harry understands. You guys are great together, your worries aren’t going to get in the way of that. We understand that you want to go into this carefully and you have the right to. Just don’t worry too much about it. Harry likes you, you like him, that’s all that matters.”

She was right. I’m just letting my worries get in the way of what’s really important. What’s important is enjoying my time with Harry and getting to know him. I can’t let anything ruin that. I can’t let anything get in the way of being happy again.

“She’s right. You deserve this, Lily,” Eleanor adds. “You deserve to be happy. So does Harry. He hasn’t had the greatest luck in the love department and I think that you’re going to change that. I can see it when you two are together, you’re good for each other, if not, perfect.”

Their words made me feel so much better. It’s what I wanted to hear and I know that it’s genuine coming from them.

“So you don’t think I’m making a big deal out of it?”

“No, definitely not. This is how you feel and Harry understands. Don’t about it,” Perrie answers.

I sigh in relief. I felt a great deal better now. I was getting so anxious for my date with Harry tonight and I didn’t want this to bother me during.

“Thank you guys so much,” I say. I wrap both of my arms around them and hug them. “I know we haven’t known each other for a long time but I feel like you guys are one of my best friends. I love you guys.”

“Aww, we love you, too,” Perrie says. We pull away. “Now, let’s get you ready for your date. We have to make you look hot.”

I laugh before they each grab a hand and drag me to my room.

“I don’t even know where Harry’s taking me tonight.”

“It doesn’t matter. He’s going to be scraping his jaw off of the floor when he sees you tonight. No matter where he takes you,” Eleanor says. They pull me into my room and make me sit in front of the mirror. Right away, they pull out makeup and plug in the curling iron. They get to work, trusting them to work their magic on me. Perrie does my makeup while Eleanor works on my hair. They have me turn around so that I don’t see the final product until they’re finished.

When they finish, they have me wear the white dress that I have in my closet. [picture of dress is at the end] I put on a pair of white strap heels before Perrie holds her hand in front of my eyes as Eleanor pulls me to the mirror.

“Okay, you’re done.”

Perrie takes her hand away from my eyes and I look in the mirror. My eyes widened and I gasp at what I see in the mirror. My makeup is done to perfection, my eyes smoky and my red lips popping out against my white outfit. My hair is in loose waves and in a loose side fish braid. I have a simple necklace on and a single bracelet on my wrist.

I hate to be conceited but I looked great. Better than I can pull off by myself. It was all Perrie and Eleanor’s work.

“I…wow…this is amazing. Thank you guys,” I stammer. I hug them again.

“No worries, love,” Perrie says.

“Yeah, you look hot. Harry’s going to go mad when he sees you,” Eleanor adds.

I laugh before looking once more in the mirror. Suddenly, my phone rings and I rush to pick it up. The girls see my reaction and they smirk at me right before I answer.

“Hey, Harry.” I try to hide my excitement.

“Hey, Lily. I’m on my way. I’ll be there soon.”

My nerves and excitement instantly grew.

“Okay. Where are we going?” I ask.

He laughs. “Still not telling you.”

When Harry first called me about the date, he wouldn’t tell me where we were going. He reassured me that we wouldn’t be seen by anyone, not even by the paparazzi, so I was a little bit more relaxed than before. But I was still curious as to where he was taking me where we wouldn’t be seen but would still be considered a date.

I laugh. “Fine, fine. Alright, I’ll see you soon.”

“Bye, Lily.”

I hang up and look up at the girls.

“So, he still won’t tell you?” Perrie asks.

“Nope.”

“Would you mind if we follow you so we can see where he’s taking you?” Eleanor questions.

We all laugh.

“Why don’t I just tell you guys about it afterwards?”

“Right. We wouldn’t want to see you and Harry macking out, or you know…” Perrie waggles her eyebrows at me as Eleanor laughs. I roll my eyes and throw a pillow at her.

“Anyways, as much as we want to see Harry’s reaction when he sees you, we should go,” Perrie says, getting up.

“Aww, I want to wait until Harry gets here,” Eleanor whines.

“Sorry, hun. Maybe next time.” Perrie takes her hand and pulls her out of the room. I follow them to the front door when they turn around. They each give me a hug, saying goodbye.

“You better tell us all about this tomorrow,” Perrie warns.

“I will, I will.”

“Have fun tonight,” Eleanor says as they step out into the hallway.

“Thanks.” I give them a smile.

They walk down the hall and just as I’m about to close it I hear Perrie shout.

“Not too much fun!”

I laugh. “Bye, Perrie!” I shout back.

I close the door and take a deep breath. I sit on the couch and wait for Harry. As I’m trying to calm my nerves and use my phone to check my hair and makeup, I hear a knock on the door.

My heart skips a beat before I stand up and head to the door. I take a deep breath and open it.

Harry’s POV

I walk down the hallway, stopping in front of Ed’s door. I take a deep breath before I bring my hand up and knock on the door. My heart thumps against my chest as I wait for Lily. A few seconds later, the door opens and the second my eyes land on her, my heart stops and I stop breathing.

It took everything in me not to walk up to her and kiss her. She looked amazing. No, amazing was not a good enough word to describe how she looked right now.

She was breathtaking, beautiful, out of this world.

Perfect.

She looked like an angel.

“Wow. Lily…you look…wow.” I was speechless. There weren’t any words that would do justice to tell her how I think of how she looks right now.

“Um…thanks?” she giggles. “Come in. I just have to get my clutch.”

I walk in and watch her as she makes her way across the room to get her clutch and phone off of the coffee table. My eyes never leave her as she makes her way back to me. She meets my gaze as she stops right in front of me.

“You ready?” I ask.

She nods. “Mhm.”

I smile and take her hand, leading her out. She locks the door and we make our way to the elevator.

“You look great, Harry.” She runs a hand over my arm as I look down at her.

“Thank you,” I smile.

We wait for the elevator and we step in once it gets here.

“So, are you going to tell me where we’re going now?” she asks with a grin.

I laugh. “Nope.”

She pouts, her bottom lip sticking out. I stare at it and I can’t hold it in anymore. I lean forward and kiss her. She seemed surprise as she slightly jumps but she quickly recovers as she kisses me back. I cup my hand on her neck as she wraps her arms around mine.

For the second time, we’re interrupted when the elevator dings and the doors slide open. We pull away, giving each other a smile before we step out.

“What are we doing in the parking garage?” she asks.

“Oh. I didn’t want any paparazzi to see us so I talked to the manager of the building and asked if I could pick you up here,” I answer.

“Aww, thank you, Harry.”

I just give her a smile as I lead her to the black car ahead of us. I open the passenger door for her, closing it once she’s seated. I walk around the car and hop into the driver’s seat before I start it and drive to the entrance.

“What if someone sees us in the car?” she asks.

“Don’t worry. The windows are tinted and it’s dark out. No one will be able to see.”

Suddenly, I feel her hand on my hand resting on my lap.

“Thank you, Harry. Sorry for troubling you with all of this…extra stuff.”

I bring her hand up to my lips and place a quick kiss on it.

“No worries. Honestly, it’s nothing.” I give her a reassuring smile as we make our way out of the parking garage. I start driving to the destination of our date. I was hesitant about taking her here but I thought that I would be the perfect place to have our first date, especially with her not wanting to be seen out in public yet.

About 15 minutes later, I turned onto the familiar dirt road.

I hear her gasp.

“Harry? Is this…”

“Yup.” I look over at her and see excitement on her face. I relax, seeing her reaction. I wasn’t sure whether she would like having our date here at my secret spot.

I park the car off to the side. I turn off the car and hop out. I walk over to her side and open her door, helping her step out.

She looks down at her feet.

“You could’ve told me to wear more appropriate shoes.” She giggles.

My face reddens in embarrassment. I should have told her to bring flat shoes.

“Shoot. I’m sorry. It didn’t cross my mind,” I explain.

She looks up at me and takes my hand.

“It’s okay. No big deal.”

Suddenly, she bends down and starts taking off her shoes. I was surprised because girls usually wouldn’t go barefoot in the forest. It was enlightening to see how carefree she was.

“Problem solved.” She gives me a toothy smile before she puts her shoes in the car. I close the door before I walk to the back of the car and open the trunk. I pull out a picnic basket and a couple of blankets.

“This way,” I say as I lead the way towards the edge of the forest, the view of London in plain view ahead of us.

I put the basket down then take a blanket and place it on the ground. I take her hand and pull her, sitting down and helping her take a seat beside me.

“Are you hungry?” I ask.

She nods before I pull the basket closer to us. I take out a small box of pizza and place it in front of us.

“Pizza?” She raises an eyebrow at me and smiles.

I laugh. “I was going to prepare a 5-course meal but I thought it would be difficult to eat on the ground.”

She laughs. “I’m just kidding. Pizza sounds delicious.”

I open the pizza and we dig in. I pull out a couple of cans of Pepsi and hand her one. Once we finish, I clean up and put the garbage back in the basket.

I turn to her. “Are you ready for the next surprise?”

Excitement grows in her eyes as she nods.

“Be right back.” I stand up and head back to the car, taking the basket with me to put it away. I open the trunk, putting the basket in and taking out the guitar case. I walk back to Lily and see her looking at me curiously. Once I reach her, I hold my hand out at her.

“Come.”

She takes my hand and I help her up, leading her to the ledge. I place the guitar case down and sit down, letting my legs hang over the edge. She sits down beside me, still looking as scared as she was last time she sat here but now there was a hint of excitement mixed with it.

She looks at the view for a while before she turns her attention back to me.

“Step two,” I say with a smirk. She watches me carefully as I pull the acoustic guitar out of the case and hold it out for her. She takes it and places it on her lap.

“Whenever you’re ready.”

She looks down at the guitar and then up at me again.

“I thought this was supposed to be a date,” she grins.

I laugh. “It is. Trust me. I promise you’ll enjoy it.”

She takes a deep breath, focusing back on the guitar. She seems slightly more comfortable than last time as she starts playing. She doesn’t mess up once.

She sings Ed’s song, ‘Give Me Love’. And just like last time, she was amazing. So graceful and soulful.

Once she finishes, she looks back at me.

I smile at her. “Now you can say that you’ve sang and played in front of all of London.”

Her smile broadens. She looks back out at the view, her eyes twinkling from the lights.

I take the guitar from her and place it back in the case before I sit closer to her.

“Thank you, Harry.” She leans in, her face hovering inches from mine. “This was really thoughtful of you. Thank you for doing this for me.”

All I could was nod. Her being this close to me made me frazzled. I couldn’t think straight.

Just when I thought she was going to close the distance and finally kiss me, she quickly pulls away and gets up. She giggles as she runs towards the trees. It took me a few seconds to realize what she was doing before a smile appeared on my face and I got up. It was dark out, the only light reaching us was the light from the moon. I could hear her quietly giggling from within the trees and I tried to adjust to the darkness so I could find her.

“Lily,” I call. I walk through the trees, listening intently for any sounds of movement. I hear leaves crunching from somewhere to my left so I make my way towards that direction.

“Lily, don’t go too far.” I was worried that she would go too far and get lost, that would be the last thing that I would want to happen tonight.

“Yes, mom.” Her voice came from my right now and it seemed closer. I was now starting to adjust to the darkness and I could see the faint white of her dress ahead of me. I tried to stay as quiet as I could as I made my around her so I could surprise her from behind. I could see her now and she was looking around for me as she hid behind a tree. I creep my way up to her and wrap my arms around her.

“Boo!” I say.

She screams as she turns around to face me. I keep her in my arms as she closes her eyes and places her hand on over her heart.

I laugh as I watch her compose herself.

Once she does, she smacks me on my chest.

“Don’t scare me like that.” Her eyebrows furrow and I immediately lean in and kiss the wrinkles caused by it. I pull back and see that her expression softened.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper, her hands resting on my chest. “Forgive me?” I smile down at her.

Her eyes dart to my lips before they hover back to my eyes.

“Kiss me,” she whispers.

I didn’t need telling twice as I lean in and kiss her. She grabs the front of my jacket and pulls me closer to her. I push her until we’re against the tree, resting my hands on her waist. The kiss deepens, her arms snaking around my neck. I lick her bottom lip, remembering the last time that I made this risky move, she stopped. But she didn’t stop this time. She opens her mouth, allowing my tongue to enter it. I moan against her lips and feel her rake her fingers through my hair. I pull away but immediately move my lips to her neck. I hear her gasp for breath as she tugs on my hair, not knowing whether she wants me to continue what I’m doing or to stop.

“Harry,” she says breathlessly.

I groan against her neck in response. I suck on her skin, surely going to leave a mark.

“Harry.”

Reluctantly, I pull away and look at her.

“What’s wrong?”

She rests her forehead against mine as she closes her eyes. I do the same.

“Nothing. Nothing’s wrong. I just…I think we need to slow things down a bit.”

I lightly nod. I know she’s right. I mean, our relationship didn’t exactly start like normal relationships do but this was technically still our first date.

I chuckle. “I’m sorry. It’s just hard to control myself when it comes to you.”

She leans back and smiles up at me.

“It’s not just you, Harry. It’s partly my fault, too. You do know how sexy you are, right? Especially tonight.”

She smirks at me.

“Sexy? You think I’m sexy?” I tease.

She rolls her eyes. “You obviously know that. I bet you get a kick out of hearing that.”

I laugh. “Only when you say it.”

Her expression softens before she smirks again. “I’ll keep that in mind.”

God, she’s such a tease.

“Let’s go back to the blanket?” I ask, taking a step back but taking her hands in mine.

She smiles and gives me a nod. I let go of one of her hands and lead her back out of the trees. We reach the blanket and I sit down, pulling her to sit in front of me in between my legs. I put my knees up and wrap my arms around her. She places her arms on top of mine, lacing her fingers through mine. She leans her head back and rests it against my chest before we both gaze out at the view.

Minutes pass in silence as I listen to her quiet breathing. She starts playing with my fingers and I watch as she does so. She turns one of my rings around on my finger until she carefully pulls one out and places it on her pinkie finger. I smile and she giggles as she wiggles the large ring around her tiny finger. She takes it out and places it now on her middle finger, fitting a bit better but still a bit too big on her slim fingers. She holds out her hand in front of her as she admires the ring. I start playing with her fingers now, tracing each knuckle with my fingertips.

“Harry?”

I place my lips on the back of her neck and hum in response.

“Can I ask you a question?”

I lift my head back up. “Of course. You know you don’t have to ask?”

She giggles lightly before she goes silent again.

“When did you first realize you liked me?”

I thought over her question carefully but there was one moment that immediately came to mind towards her question.

“Even though the second that I first saw you, I thought you were fit.” She giggles. “I think that I first realized that I liked you when we were at the bridge. When we were looking at the moon and you were saying that quote from that movie. But it was also because of that fact that you take something so simple and make it so much more. You make it seem so beautiful. That morning, when you told me the story of how you and Ed met, I thought that it was just a crush but being there with you at the bridge, that moment, I knew that it wasn’t just a silly little crush…I liked you.” I chuckle. “And I still do.”

She turns her head around to look at me. She has a sweet smile plastered on her face and I return it with one of my own. She takes one of her hands and moves it back to rest on my face. Her eyes move to my lips before she pulls me down for a kiss. It’s a sweet kiss, no urgency.

She pulls away and gives me a smile before she faces forward again.

“How about you?” I ask.

She stays silent for a few seconds, probably thinking about her answer.

“I’m honestly not copying your answer,” she laughs. “But I realized I liked you when we were at the bridge, as well. But it was when we took pictures and we were looking through them afterwards. When I saw how genuinely happy I was, I realized that it was because of you. Before then, I would fake a smile a lot but with you…I don’t have to fake anything, I don’t have to act. I’m me and I’m happy again.”

It hurt me to know that she was putting up an act and faking smiles. But then it made me feel good inside at the fact that I was what led her to happiness again. It’s a scary thought at the same time but the satisfaction it gives me knowing that I make her happy is enough to rid of those thoughts.

What she doesn’t know is that she does the same for me. I used to be quite like her actually. I would fake smiles, for the cameras, for the fans, especially when it came to my past relationships. I hated that. I wanted to be me. I wanted to be happy.

“You make me happy, too, Lily.”
