Change My Mind

I don’t know if I’ll ever love someone as great as Harry so that’s why I never want to forget this feeling. That’s why I’m scared of moving on. I don’t want to forget what it feels like to be in love with Harry Styles, especially the feeling I got when Harry Styles used to love me back.

78. Fights & Proposals

Lily’s POV

“I’m not going out there,” I whisper-shout to Harry as he puts on a new shirt. I’m still incredibly embarrassed by the conversation between him and Louis.

“Lily, come on. It’s nothing. Me and the lads do that all the time.”

I cross my arms in front of me and narrow my eyes at him. I know that guys do this all the time but it’s still embarrassing, especially since I was lying under him as I listened to them.

I remain silent, knowing that my stubbornness was showing. Harry playfully rolls his eyes before he makes his way to me and stands behind me. He rests his hands on my shoulders and starts pushing me forward.

“Let’s go. The longer we stay in here, the worse it’ll get because they’ll just think that we’re actually doing the hanky-panky.”

I can’t stop the giggle the escapes from my mouth. “Stop using that term. It’s weird.”

He opens the door and continues to softly push me from behind.

“Hanky-panky?” he innocently asks, knowing that that’s exactly what I was talking about.

I laugh again but nudge him with my bum as we continue to walk through the hallway.

“Lily, not here. Wait until we go back into the room.”

“Harry!” I lightly elbow him on his stomach and all he does is laughs as he pushes me once again.

We head to the kitchen and I can already feel my cheeks heating up as Louis and Eleanor look up at us.

“Morning,” Harry greets.

“Morning,” Louis and Eleanor reply back. I’m expecting them to start teasing me but they just smile at me.

Harry goes to sit at the dining room table and he tugs on my hand to sit on his lap.

“What time did you want to leave?” Harry asks. I made him promise not to mention their banter when we get out here and I’m glad he kept his promise. Louis and Eleanor make no sign of mentioning it, either, and I sigh in relief.

“We should leave around 12 so we don’t get caught in traffic,” Louis replies.

I pout and turn to look at Harry.

Three hours. We only have three hours left before they have to leave. I wish they could leave later tonight but I know that they have to work tomorrow and it’s a long drive.

Harry gives me a sweet smile and rubs my waist. He knows what’s going through my mind because, most likely, the same thing is going through his.

He’s leaving today. We just got back together two days ago. Even though these past two days have been amazing, it wasn’t enough. No amount of days is enough when it comes to Harry. And the fact that I have no idea when I’m going to see him next just makes it worse.

He turns to look back at Louis. “Alright. We should all go for an early lunch before we go.”

Louis glances at his watch. “We’ll leave around 10:30 then and then we’ll drop you girls off afterwards and then we’ll go.” Him and Eleanor stand up. “We’re going to go get ready.”

They disappear into the hallway and I feel Harry’s arms tighten around me.

“See. I told you it was nothing.” He rests his chin on my shoulder and I turn to my head to face his.

“Just…don’t talk about it when I’m around.”

He laughs. “Alright.” He gives me a quick kiss and then pulls away with a smile.

“So, what did you want to do before we leave for lunch?”

He shrugs. “Doesn’t matter. Just as long as I’m spending it with you.”

I roll my eyes at his cheesiness but I smile at the same time.

So, for the next hour and a half, he keeps his word. He rarely keeps his hands off of me the entire time.

When I wash the dishes, he stands behind me and keeps his arms around my waist.

When we walk back to my room, he clasps his hand through mine.

When I change into a maxi dress, not even caring that I change in front of him, he makes the most out of it and rests his hands anywhere he can get. Even though it made me take longer to change, I enjoyed it. I love it when he’s playful and cheeky.

When I put on my shoes, I stand up and he immediately stands in front of me and wraps his arms around my waist and then places his hands on my bum, a cheeky grin spreading across his face as I just roll my eyes at him but with a small smile on my own face.

So we just stand here in the middle of my room, my arms snaking around his torso.

As we let the silence surround us, as I hear the ticking of the clock on the wall behind me, as I lock gazes with Harry and look into his bright, green eyes, the pressure in my chest increases and my faces softens. I swallow the lump growing in my throat as the thought of him leaving soon creeps into my head again.

I’m sure that Harry notices my change of mood as his own face softens and he leans down to place a kiss on my forehead. I close my eyes at the gesture, trying to keep myself together. I look back up at him and just let the small smile on his face comfort me.

“It’ll feel like we’re never apart. We’ll see each other again really soon. I promise. The days will feel like seconds. We’ll talk every day. We’ll Skype. I’ll even write you damn letters.”

I finally smile and his widens as he sees it.

“Just hold on to this,” he says as he points at his ring resting against my chest. “And I’ll always be with you. Just look up at the moon at night and know that I’m always thinking about you. Just remember that I’ll always love you.”

I bite my lip to hold back the tears.

“You and me, Lily.”

I let those three words of assurance be the only thing that I feel as I rest my forehead against his and close my eyes.

“You and me. And I happen to like your letters so I’ll be expecting them now.”

Both of us laugh but then I feel Harry’s warm hand rest on my neck before he pulls me and places his lips on mine. We basically make out like high school kids for the next…I don’t even know how long. The only sound I can hear is my own pounding heart, both of our loud breaths and gasps for air and the smack of our lips against each other’s.

Harry playfully gropes my bum and he smiles against my lips when I squeal. I try to push him off of me but he just tightens his grip around me and laughs.

He returns his lips on mine like he still hasn’t had enough. I immediately kiss him back because I haven’t had enough of him, either.

We’re interrupted when someone knocks on my door.

“You guys ready to go?” Louis asks.

I can see Harry about to say something back but I smack my hand over his mouth. His eyes widen in shock but I just shush him.

“I have an idea to get back at them,” I whisper. I take my hand off of his mouth and see a smirk on his face. “Just follow my lead and go along with it.”

He nods and I take a step back. I close my eyes and think about the saddest thing I can think of and I see Harry’s eyes widen once again when he sees tears in the corner of my eyes when I open them.

I take a deep breath. “So you come all the way here saying that you want me back and now you don’t want it anymore?” I make sure to speak loud enough for Louis and Eleanor to hear.

Harry’s eyebrows rise and his eyes widen when he watches my little act. I motion for him to say something and he shakes his head and clears his throat.

“Lily, I…I…” I can tell that he’s under pressure since I didn’t give him a warning about my plan so I decide to interrupt him.

“You made me give you another chance and now you’re just throwing it all away?” I mentally pat myself in the back when my voice actually breaks. Even though I’m crying, I smile at him in encouragement, hoping that he’ll finally say something.

I know I’m catching him off guard but he should know that I always go big when it comes to pranks.

He takes a deep breath and looks me straight in the eye. “These past two days have been great but…I can’t stop thinking about what’s going to happen to us. The thought of being away from you kills me. I don’t know what I’m going to do when it actually happens.”

“So you’d prefer not be with me anymore rather than actually seeing how this will work? You’re going to let that break us apart?”

“I can’t do it, Lily. I know that Louis and Eleanor are able to do it but I don’t think I can. And I saw them when they first went through it and I don’t think I can handle that.”

I raise my eyebrows at him and give him a thumbs up. I commend him for bringing Louis and Eleanor into this. This’ll just freak them out even more.

“Why not?” I ask.

He looks at me for a while, surely thinking about what to say. “Because I don’t think we’re at that stage yet. It takes a special kind of love to be able to handle that kind of pressure in a relationship.”

“So you’re saying you don’t love me enough to even try?”

“Hey, why do I have to be the bad guy here?” he whispers as he pouts. I stifle my laugh as I walk up to him and put my arms around his waist.

“Just a bit more,” I whisper back.

He playfully rolls his eyes before a mischievous grin appears on his face. “Honestly, no, I don’t.”

I raise an eyebrow at him and playfully narrow my eyes at him. “Oh, you’re gonna go there, huh?” I whisper. I can tell that we’re enjoying this a bit too much but it’s fun. It’s fun to see who can win this pretend argument.

He just gives me a smug expression. I pull away from him again and he looks at me confusedly when I put on a blank expression. I take a deep breath and will my eyes to make more tears.

“Well, you know what? Maybe you should leave! You don’t love me so I don’t know any reason why you need to still be here. Get out!”

I see Harry panic, not knowing what to do so I gesture for him to go outside to take this little play outside. It’s the perfect way to end this prank.

I walk up to him and push him towards the door. “Just keep going along with it,” I whisper.

He nervously opens the door and takes a deep breath before I see him put on a scowl. He storms out into the hallway and to the front door. I follow him with my arms crossed and when we reach the front door, I see Louis and Eleanor sitting in the living room with worried expressions on their faces.

Tears actually fall down my cheeks, adding to our little charade as I turn back to Harry.

“I never want to see you again. I’ve given you too many chances.”

I can see something flicker in Harry’s eyes and he smirks at me for a second with his back to Louis and Eleanor. I look at him confusedly before his face turns serious.

“Lily. I didn’t mean it. I do love you.”

What is he doing? He’s ruining the prank.

I don’t even know what to say. I have no idea where he’s going with this.

“I can’t stand being away from you and always be worrying about our future so…”

I see him slip off one of his rings, his smirk reappearing again. My heart drops to the floor when Harry takes my left hand and kneels down to the ground.

Even though this is all an act, I can’t stop myself from gasping and covering my mouth with my hand. I can see Louis and Eleanor with the same expression on their faces.

“So, Lily…will you marry me?”

I have no idea what to say. Do I keep going along with it or do I stop this prank?

“Harry…” is all I can say. It’s a plea for him to tell me what the hell I’m supposed to be doing.

Suddenly, I get an idea for how I can end this prank with a bang. I look up at Eleanor and Louis, who still have shocked expressions on their faces.

“El, Lou, what…what do I say?”

I see panic appear on their faces as they look at each other. Harry is trying to stifle his laughter in front of me and I want to hit him for putting me on the spot like this.

“Guys?” I say, getting their attention again.

Eleanor gives Louis a pointed look, silently telling him to be the one to give me an answer.

Louis sits there uncomfortably and stutters. “Well, um…I-I think that…um, well…”

“Louis said yes, so yes!” I say, looking down at Harry with the biggest smile on my face.

“What? No, I didn’t,” Louis says frantically.

I just ignore him and jump up and down as Harry covers my hand with his and slips his ring onto my middle finger, knowing that it would be too weird if he had actually placed the ring on my ring finger.

Harry stands up and puts his arms around me. He buries his face into the crook of my neck and I can hear him quietly laughing.

I can see Louis and Eleanor looking at each other with wide eyes before they stand up and walk up to us.

Louis clears his throat. “Um…congrats, guys. But Lily…I-I didn’t say yes.”

I know that he must be freaking out that thinking that he’s the one that made the decision for me.

I put on a confused expression. “So…so you’re saying I shouldn’t marry him?”

His eyes widen. “No, no, that’s not what I meant! I…I…I…”

Harry and I look at each other with smirks on our faces and I nod at him before we look back at the other two.

“Gotcha!” we both say. It’s takes a while for them to understand the whole situation before they look at us with narrowed eyes.

“What the hell?” Louis exclaims.

I laugh. “That’s what you two get for teasing me this morning.”

Louis shakes his head. “You two are the worst.”

Harry puts his arm around my shoulders and we laugh. This is definitely one of the best pranks I’ve pulled and I’ve done plenty.

“Lily, I can’t believe you did that,” Eleanor says, placing her hands over her heart, which I’m assuming is beating like crazy right now.

Harry and I just continue to laugh before Harry attempts to stop and then clears his throat.

“Shall we get lunch then?”

Louis and Eleanor just continue to give us the death glare as we lead the way out of the flat.
