What If: A Harry Potter Fanfiction

Most people never knew that Sirius Black had a daughter. Understandable, because Meadow Black was kept in an anti-aging spell for 36 years. Finally, she has awoken. Finally, she is off to Hogwarts. Finally, her life has begun. But will it end soon after beginning?

16. So Close and Yet So Far

Meadow sat in a corner of the Burrow when all the Potters and Weasleys had gone to bed, wishing her mother was not in Azkaban, wishing her father had not been killed. This Christmas was more bitter than sweet.

Above everything else, she wanted to know who had killed her father, but nobody would tell her. She didn't understand why. She was not a baby anymore, and had been told that she was very mature for her age.

Seated just below that was the decision she had to make. If she left Vivian, her only ties to her mother aside from writing to her would be cut, and she would essentially be an orphan, especially since one exchange per three months was legal - yet she would have to deal with the neglect. If she joined the Potters, she would be thrust into an awkward bunch of relationships and would have to face her family's past every day - but she would be cared about.

Eleven-year-olds shouldn't be forced to make these choices, she thought to herself, pulling the sapphire-blue sweater Molly Weasley had made her tighter around her skinny, almost anorexic-looking middle.

She figured she ought to go up to the room she shared with Rosie and Lily soon, but she almost never got to think without some commotion going on around her.

(A/N: Still waiting for you guys to figure out why I named her Meadow...)

Still, sleep was eminent for the tired girl. She fingercombed her fizzy, curly black hair and yawned.

She fell asleep sitting in that corner, still thinking about everything she would have to decide and find out.
