30. "Sorry I couldn't be good enough for you,"

I knew my mom would find it suspicious if I said I was going to Lilly's house tonight.
So I decided to avoid that fiasco and tell her I was meeting up with Destiny to discuss more wedding details.
As I expected, she was thrilled that I was warming up to the idea of getting married.
Which I wasn't.
"So you want me* to cover for you?" Destiny asked.
"Please? I have no one else," I begged.
She sighed.
"Fine."
"Thank you so much!" I exclaimed.
I heard her laugh on the other end, "This is actually quite exciting. What's our alibi?"
--
I was now outside Niall's door. I fluffed my hair a bit before knocking.
I had hoped I dressed for the occasion, because I had but a clue to where we would be going.
"Hey beautiful," he greeted, opening the door.
I blushed, kissing him on the cheek.
"Shall we go?" He asked, holing his arm out.
I smiled and nodded, linking my arm with his as he escorted me to the car.
"You look nice tonight," he complimented, as we began driving.
"You don't look bad yourself," I said, winking.
He looked at me, smiling.
That smile kills me.
We drove for a good 15 minuets before arriving at a park.
The same park Harry took me to when Niall caught us together.
The same park it.. Happened.
I shook it off, not wanting to recall the horrible memory.
I guess the look on my face gave me away because Niall said, "Are you okay? We can go somewhere else.. You just look frightened.."
"No it's..." I paused for a second. "It's nothing."
"Babe you can tell me. What's wrong?" He asked.
I blinked away the tears threatening to spill.
"I was only five. My best friend and I came here.. Our parents were taking.. Not paying enough attention I guess..." I began, slowly.
He nodded, encouraging me to continue.
"There was a man. He came up to us.. Asked us if our parents were with us. I pointed over to them, and when I looked back he was carrying her away.. She was found dead a few years later,"
I finished, wiping the tears away.
"Oh baby," he said, reaching over to hug me, a nearly impossible task in such a tight pace.
He pulled me over onto him, so I was straddling his lap.
"I love you," he whispered into my hair, caressing it softly.
I pressed my lips to his, "I love you too,"
"Let's go," I smiled, wiping the tears from my eyes.
"Are you sure? We can go somewhere else.." He said.
"Don't be silly it's fine," I said, nearly tripping out of the door.
Niall laughed at this, and I playfully hit him.
He grabbed a basket from the back with one hand, and held my hand with the other.
I gasped as he led me to where we would sit.
The tree's were covered in shimmering Christmas lights, and there was a large picnic blanket right beneath it.
"I hope this isn't cheesy," he said, nervously.
"It's perfect," I smiled.
--
A half hour later, we had finished eating, and lay down together on the picnic blanket, our legs entangled and my head in his chest.
"I love you," he murmured.
"I love you too," I smiled, leaning up to kiss him.
The kiss was passionate, and left me wanting more.
"I have something for you," he smiled, pulling away.
"You didn't have to get me Anything*," I said.
"I wanted to," he informed me.
From the basket, he took out a ring box.
Oh goodness, not another marriage proposal.
Actually, Harry didn't really even propose.
He probably didn't even pick out the ring.
Who cares, I never wore it anyway.
"It's a promise ring," he declared, opening the box.
It was stunning.
"It's a symbol. It's a promise that I'll always love you, and that no matter
What happens between us, that love won't stop, because the way I feel about you.. It's a way I've never felt before. And I never want that to go away.
I never want you* to go away," he said.
I was tearing up.
I had to tell him, now.
I knew this was a terrible time, and that telling him meant losing him.. Losing a piece of me.
But I couldn't lead him on anymore.
I just couldn't do it.
"Niall.. I'm getting married," I said, quickly.
He pulled away from me, surprised.
"What the hell are you talking about?" He asked.
"I'm getting married. To Harry." I choked out, I was crying now. Wonderful.
He snapped the box closed.
"So you're cheating? And you're fucking marrying him? You're 18!" He yelled.
"Niall let me explain-"
"This is so embarrassing.." He whispered, looking to the ground.
"Niall.." I said, through tears.
"No. Just stop talking okay? How could you do this to me? Lie like this? Did you ever* love me?" He asked, hurt evident in his eyes.
"Of course I did!" I replied.
He shook his head, " I don't know if I believe that anymore Julia."
"Niall you need to listen to me!"
"Oh I've listened!" He countered, "I've listened to you tell me you love me. That you don't have feelings for Harry. I've listened to you lie to me about who knows what Julia! Im done. We're over. And I don't want to see you again!"
I just sat there in tears.
I deserved this. I should have told him the moment I knew.
"I'm sorry I wasn't good enough for you." He whispered, before walking away.
Leaving me alone in the park, my tears the only noise in the dark night.
What have I done?I knew my mom would find it suspicious if I said I was going to Lilly's house tonight.
