13. Chapter Twelve

I spent the rest of the week, and most of the following week in my room. In bed. Eating ice cream. I knew it was too good to be true, I knew it and I still let myself fall for him. I ignored my phone whenever I got a text, or someone phoned me – I got fed up with hearing it that I shoved it into a draw and muffled the sound with clothes.

Unless I went downstairs to get more ice cream, I stayed in bed and watched TV or I put a DVD. I was watching The Walking Dead when Emily came round the day before our trip to London. “Beth, you must be the only girl in the world who has her heart broken, and watches The Walking Dead.”

“I dreamt we were in a zombie apocalypse last night.” I told her. “Robert was there as a zombie.”

“So?”

“I caved his head in with a brick.”

“Ok.” Emily said taking the DVD remote off me. “No more of that for you.” she switched the TV off and cleared my bedside cabinet of rubbish. “Anyway, you have two whole Robert Winston free days to look forward to.”

“What are you talking about?” I asked clambering out of bed.

“London? Don’t tell me you forgot.” I nod apologetically at her, before climbing back into bed.

“Oh, yeah.” I actually did forget. “I’m not going.” I pulled the covers over my head in an attempt to avoid the glare that was coming my way.

“You are coming with us Elizabeth.” I grimaced when she said my full name. “You are going to come, and the three of us will go shopping, you have that meeting and then on Saturday we are going to Harry Potter studios.” She went to my wardrobe and pulled out my pink overnight bag.

“Do I have to go?” I pleaded.

“Yes.” I knew then that there was no point arguing with her. If Emily gave you a one word answer to a question, you stopped speaking and let her get on with whatever she was doing. At that moment, she was going through my clothes picking out what I should take with me, while I sat in bed wondering whether I should take my knitting and risk being called ‘old’ or to just take my tablet.

I eventually dragged myself out of bed. I opened the drawer that I hid my phone in, and took it out.

10 missed calls.

25 texts.

And all from Robert.

I took too long deciding whether or to delete the messages, because Emily took my phone off me. “You aren’t going to think about him, Beth.” She told me as she hit the delete button. “Starting from right now.” She handed my phone back. As scrolled through, I noticed that she didn’t just delete the messages, she also deleted his number. “Right, now that that’s sorted out,” she said going back to the wardrobe. “We are definitely taking these.” She took out the robes that we got last time we went to Harry Potter Studios.

We’d decided to get robes based on what tutor we were in at school. I was in blue tutor, so I bought Ravenclaw robes and Slytherin robes. “The question is,” I began. “Do we want to go full on Fangirl, and wear the entire uniform.”

“Or just the robes?” Emily finished. “I think we should take the uniforms just in case we change our minds.” I agreed. I knew that I would probably only wear the robe.

“Are we going to get a taxi to the leisure centre?” I asked, I’d almost forgotten that we hadn’t exactly talked about how we would get to the pickup point.

“Evie phoned me, to say that her Dad says he’ll drop us off on his way to work.”

“Evie phone you?” I was surprised at the statement. Evie had never phoned Emily before, despite me giving her both of our numbers.

Once Emily had made sure that I was packed and ready for Friday morning, we headed downstairs to watch Maleficent
