8. Dinner with Niall

I guess I always imagined this happening. Niall and I once again together with no strings attached. Just me making jokes and him singing and flirting.

Of course, I did always think it would be awkward at first. I mean, it's been a year since I left Niall to cry in Hailey's closet at that party. At school, we'd pass each other in the hall like we were complete strangers.

Then again, even if we'd stayed together all this time, and I hadn't been scared to take our relationship to the next level, where would we be? Probably still sitting here, only difference being we'd have nothing to talk about...

"So, how's life been without the Nialler?" he kidded, pulling me into

Horrible, lonely, desolate, blank. With all these words coming to mind, I could only manage to say one: "Fine."

"Really? Huh, Aj didn't ever seem to be the fun type," he smiled.

"Oh believe me, she's no you,"

"Yeah, I'm spectacular,"

"Niall, is there something in the coffee here?" This dinner was going better than planned.

"Well if not, I'm not paying extra for it," Niall stated.

I brushed it off, "No, I mean we haven't talked in, forever, and we're acting as if nothing ever happened,"

"Well, I've already lost a year with you. Why make this dinner another heartbreak?"

"Besides, when Harry told me that he'd set this up, at first I thought that he'd been kidding. I tried to get out of it, but then I thought to myself, 'Huh, how could I pass up dinner with Lindsay?'"

"Well, what if over this year I'd become a witch?"

"Perhaps you have, because I do find myself under your spell,"

He's doing it again. He's trying to get me to fall in love with him again with his smile, his kind words, his unusual humor. Right when I felt trapped, he was my escape. Why do I see this as a bad thing?!

"Hey, I'm not that awesome..."

"Are you kidding me?" Niall seemed to be remaining calm.

"Well, where-as I often am kidding, I have to be serious here. What do you find so beautiful about me?"

"Lindsay, you aren't like all these other girls. I see Louis go after all the idiot blondes and Harry go for college sorority chicks. They act happy with them, but I really see how they act. They just do all this PDA, and have useless sex. But absolutely no true feelings. They think with their crotches, not their hearts. With you, I can actually know that there's something real there," he explained to me.

Stay strong, Lindsay...

"Until, of course, you rejected me,"

Oh yeah... That.

"Well, anyway, it was in the past and should stay there," Niall grinned and took a bite of his food. I hadn't even touched mine.

"How about I drive you home?" Niall offered, finishing his burger off.

"That'd be fine I gu-" and then I stopped. I was supposed to be staying over at Aj's tonight. My parents are out of town.

"Actually, my parents aren't home," I confessed.

"Oh... Well that's fine. If you want, you can stay at my place. My folks won't mind, as long as you behave," he winked at me, while waving over the waiter for the check.

"Sure!" I should've denied him, should have gone to Aj's house as expected. And no matter how much I was trying to still get over Niall, maybe deep in my mind I was hoping that this would turn into something.
