4. Beauty and Beast

Almost five minutes later of laughing and running, Alan slowed to a jog.

"Do you see it?" he spoke up between his panting.

I struggled to speak after so much running, all that came out was awkward laughs and heavy breathing.

"See what?" I finally managed to say.

Alan raised his finger to point, and as I followed his finger I finally saw it. Underneath a clearing in the woods, the limbs of surrounding trees interlocked like braided hair. Sunlight fell amazingly through the damp trees, creating a faint rainbow in the distance. In the middle of the area, a small water fountain, surrounded by four neatly positioned benches, trickled softly behind the sound of the birds chirping.

Alan had taken me to an oasis.

     "So, you like it?"

I ignored him and walked forward, towards the fountain. Peeking inside, I was able to see tons of glimmering coins, butterflies resting on the edge, and the pops to soda cans.

"I'll take that as a yes," Alan said, approaching me.

"It's amazing... How did those five idiots build a place so elegant?"

Alan stood still for a moment, and then finally exclaimed, "Actually, Niall built all of this,"

"Niall?" I guess I gasped without realizing it.

"Yep. It took him almost a week. That time he was sick with flu for a while, he was actually here building this,"

So... It took him a week to build a masterpiece for me.

And it only took me seven minutes to break his heart.
