I watched as the crowd around me split to let me through. I was running, long soaked hair billowing behind me, shirt open, and barefooted.

People around me made crude comments, shouting at me to close my shirt, stop running, stuff like that. But I was tired of listening to other people. Who liked me? Did either Alan or Niall ever like me at all?

At last, I reached where I was running to. I hoped into Niall's dad's car, grabbed the keys from their hiding spot under the carpet, and pulled out of the parking lot.

Struggling to change the gear shift, I saw Niall nearing the car in a full-out sprint. "Lindsay! Wait!"

"No! I can't keep acting like everything is perfect!" I screamed at him, finally getting it to work. I slammed the gas, revving the car and driving straight into the car ahead of me. "UGH!"

"Lindsay, just stop! I didn't do it on purpose! It wasn't real!" Niall reached the car, standing directly behind it, hindering my way out.

"But the pain and all the feeling were real! Niall, I can't keep acting for you like we're perfection! Now move out of the damn way!"

I hit the gas, hoping it would scare him enough. Niall jumped, avoiding the blow and landing on the back of the convertible.

"You can't shake me off. I'm here for the ride," he said.

"Niall, just STOP. Stop turning everything into some extended metaphor! Stop romancing me with your abs and purple speedo and start showing me you really care! Act for me like that year we had apart from each other even existed! Try for me to be real for once rather than just being the guy to come swoop me off my feet the second I'm weak!"

He quit at last, sliding off the back of the car. His face never broke it's stunned expression as he backed away. Trembling, I swerved the car and pulled forward, dodging the car ahead of me.

"Lindsay, I do care. But unlike you, I'm not gonna waste time complaining about our broken relationship; I'm going to try to fi it. But you obviously will. Tell me when you're ready for another shot,"

Niall walked off, and for a while I swore he'd never come back...
