19. The Return

I had just gotten home and was getting out of the shower, when Emma called me. She told me to meet her at the hospital. I got dresses, pretty quickly I might add, and drove over there. I was thinking that it was either Henry, Mary-Margaret, or David, but I was dead wrong. When I got to Emma, I saw the person was Kathryn. I was happy and relieved at the same time.

“How are you feeling?” I asked as Emma and I entered the room.

“I’m ok, I guess.” Kathryn replied, and I knew that she didn’t have a clue as to what really happened to her.

Emma and I talked to Kathryn for a few more minutes, before we left. I decided to go get Kathryn some flowers because I figured she needed something to brighten the mood of the room. When I got back to the hospital, I met up with David. We both walked in to see Kathryn, and she was happy to see us.

“Those are beautiful, Hazelle.” Kathryn said, talking about the flowers.

“I’m glad you think so because they’re for you.” I said with a smile as I slowly handed her the vase.

“Thank you so much Hazelle and you didn’t have to do that.” Kathryn said as she slowly placed the vase on the bedside table.

“I know, but I figured you needed something to lighten up the room, and I knew that these would make your day.” I said back with a smile.

Kathryn gave me a hug, and I was glad that she really liked the flowers. I guess I’m just good with picking flowers. David and I talked to Kathryn for a little while longer, before we left. I went to the party at Mary-Margaret’s apartment and was happy to say that one of my friends would be home from now on. I left with Henry and David, and I guess I was so freaking tired because when I woke up the next morning, I was still in my clothes from the day before. I decided not to change clothes, but I would when I got back because Emma asked me to meet her at the station. When I got there, I saw Sidney heading into the room, so I decided to listen in, before I made my appearance.

“Tell her what you told me.” Regina said, and I now knew why Sidney was here.

“It was me. I confess. I abducted Kathryn, and I held her in the basement of an abandoned summer home by the lake. I bribed a lab tech to get me the heart from the hospital, and I used that same person to doctor the lab results.” Sidney replied.

“And the other thing.” Regina egged on.

“I…borrowed some skeleton keys from Regina and…planted the knife in your apartment.” Sidney said, but it seemed to me like he was only saying things that would suit Regina.

“My keys. Can’t help but feel personally violated about that part.” Regina said, and I knew that she was probably faking like she was hurt.

“I am supposed to believe you did this for why now?” Emma asked, and I was thinking the same thing.

“I was going to find her after the conviction, be a hero. Then, get the inside track on the biggest story to ever hit this town. I’d get my job back. Plus, a novel, and a movie, and… I don’t know. It sounds crazy now.” Sidney replied.

“I don’t know about crazy. But false, yes. False as hell.” Emma said.

“I have maps to where the house is. You’ll find chains in the basement. Lots of fingerprints, I’m sure – hers and mine. But, I didn’t hurt her.” Sidney said.

“The man has obviously suffered some kind of mental break. He clearly hasn’t been himself for a while.” Regina said, and I figured that she was probably trying to convince Emma, but I knew that Emma wasn’t that stupid.

“Yeah. It’s like his words aren’t his at all.” Emma said, and that proved my point.

“Wow. You are so sold on your own rush to judgment that you can’t even see the truth anymore.” Regina said, and it sounded to me like she was getting mad.

“A word in the hallway, please.” Emma said to Regina, and that’s when I decided to make my appearance.

Both Emma and Regina acknowledged my presence, but neither of them said a word, and I was fine with that because I wanted to know exactly what Emma was going to say.

“Well, that’s the biggest load of crap I’ve ever heard.” Emma said, and I shook my head in agreement.

“I’m pretty sure that’s not true.” Regina said, and that made me wonder why she wanted Sidney behind bars so badly.

“That poor man. I know you are behind all this. I understand that you own the game, and that you’ve set the board so that no one else can win. But I am about to start playing an entirely different game. I don’t care about what happens to you. I don’t care about what happens to me. All I care about is what happens to my kid. And you are going to leave him alone.” Emma said with such passion that I just wanted to hug her and ask her where this side of her has been hiding.

“Am I?” Regina asked with an attitude.

“Uh-uh. I’m talking. You’re a sociopath, lady. You tried to take away someone that I love. And now… I’m going to take away someone you love. I am taking back my son.” Emma said and I knew that, that ended the conversation.

I hope Emma knows what she is doing, but no matter what, I’ll stand by her side like a good sister does.
