Always and Never

Ariel Tanner believed that love was nothing but an illusion, a sick prank your brain pulls on you. But when she meets Harry Styles she begins to question everything she has put together about love. This frustrating boy was the only truly genuine person she'd ever met. How someone like him could even exist blew her mind. Harry, on the other hand, was amazed at how closed off Ariel acted. He made it his mission to knock down the walls she'd built around herself, because behind the flirting and the sarcasm, he got a glimpse of a girl that he wanted to become as close as humanly possible to. But did he really want to know everything behind those walls?

32. Snowglobe

A/N: Sorry this chapter's so short guys!! Hope you like it anyway! -Xx

Are we going to your place?” I asked when I recognized the first few turns.

“Erm... Yeah. Before we get there, I have something for you.” Harry said, taking a box about the size of a football from the backseat and handing it to me when we were stopped at a stop sign.

“Dammit Harry.” I groaned.

“What did I do?” He asked innocently, smirking.

“You agreed no presents!” I continued, frustrated. First Kate now him?!

“I lied. Now open it you big whiner.” He grinned. I sighed, then began to unwrap it, all the while shaking my head at the little shit who sat next to me. I tore the tape on the box and opened it, completely stumped as to what could be inside. I pulled out the contents. In my hand sat a large snow globe. It was beautiful...

I felt my breath leave my chest in a small, breathy laugh when I looked closer. Inside were two little people, holding hands as they walked away from a colorful hot air balloon. A couple miniature trees surrounded it, and fake grass covered the bottom. I shook it lightly so that snow fell onto the beautiful scene. The man and the woman looked just like Harry and I...

“It's amazing...” I whispered. On the base part (which was the color of the sky), written in big letters was 'H.E.S+A.R.T '; our initials. I laughed quietly, delighted. It was sort of corny, but still one of the most incredible things I'd ever seen. So pretty...

“I love it.” I muttered, “I love it, a lot...” I repeated, louder.

“I was scared you'd think it was silly.” Harry mumbled.

“How could I possibly think this was anything but incredible?” My smile widened. He worried about such unnecessary things! We pulled into his driveway and he turned off the car.

“Why don't you leave it in the car so that you don't forget it later?” He suggested, he looked nervous again.

“Okay...” I agreed, trying to read his expression. It really wasn't a big deal if I left it at his house, I'd just come back for it...

I wished that I could hear his thoughts. I loved my present, and I didn't even kill him for buying something for me. Why would he still be nervous?

“Are you okay?” I asked. He nodded, getting out of the car and waiting for me outside. I shook my head as I got out. Our steps echoed as we walked to the front door. All the lights were on in the house, which was weird because he'd been gone all day. I brushed the strange fact away.

“So, I, er... I got you something else too... But this one, I'm not quite sure of.... uh...” He stumbled over his words.

“Harry I asked you not to get me anything.” I crossed my arms, frustrated. I'd already lectured him on not spending money on me, he was so stubborn!

“I didn't have to pay for this one though.” He defended. Oh, maybe he wrote another song... That would be sweet, and I could understand now why he'd be nervous. I uncrossed my arms and entwined my fingers with his to reassure him, smiling. His hands were sweaty, like really sweaty...

“Okay, no big deal then.” I shrugged. He didn't smile back, which worried me all over again.

“It's in the living room I think...” He trailed off.

“Alright, let's go have a look, then we can settle down and watch a movie or something.” I gave his hand a slight squeeze.

He cleared his throat gently, pulling me out of the entryway and into the living room. I was too busy looking at him to try and figure out what was up to notice the person sitting on the couch right in front of us.

Only when he stared at me like he was waiting for a bomb to go off did I realize that we weren't alone... My eyes focused on the woman watching us. I dropped Harry's hand (actually, I kind of threw it at him) letting mine fall to my side. I made my face unreadable, though emotions were exploding inside me.

Part of me wanted to sob into Harry's chest, part of me wanted to scream at both of them, and another part wanted to run out of the house and back to my apartment, or maybe even to Liam's house, anywhere but there...

“Hello sweetie.” My mother smiled tentatively from across the room...
