Always and Never

Ariel Tanner believed that love was nothing but an illusion, a sick prank your brain pulls on you. But when she meets Harry Styles she begins to question everything she has put together about love. This frustrating boy was the only truly genuine person she'd ever met. How someone like him could even exist blew her mind. Harry, on the other hand, was amazed at how closed off Ariel acted. He made it his mission to knock down the walls she'd built around herself, because behind the flirting and the sarcasm, he got a glimpse of a girl that he wanted to become as close as humanly possible to. But did he really want to know everything behind those walls?

43. Panties

Despite the fact that I was sure no one would walk in on me, I locked the bedroom door as I got dressed, pulling on sweatpants and a tank top. I felt to lazy to do my hair so I just threw it up into a bun, not really trying that hard. I had to at least look presentable if all the boys came back to the house so I checked myself in the mirror before going downstairs. My clothes looked fine, kind of like a person going to the gym. Same with my hair. My waterproof mascara hadn't washed off in the shower and I hadn't taken it off last night so it was mostly still on.

I smiled to myself. Now I didn't have to take the time to put on new mascara, I may have opted out anyway for the same reason I didn't do my hair, but no worries about that anymore. I hummed quietly as my bare feet carried me down the stairs and to the entry way, where all the boxes sat. I took one off the top of the pile. A grunt left my lips, Harry must have carried this one in because I don't remember having one this heavy. I trudged over to the couch to set it down, breathing a sigh of relief.

I wasn't a skinny girl, I had muscle. And that box was heavy even to me, I'm sure that girls like Kate- quite petite- wouldn't have been to lift it at all. I opened it a crack, to see what was inside. Piled to the top with random things, it seemed like. I picked it up once more, my muscles straining as I struggled up the stairs and into our room. I half dropped it onto the bed, wiping my slightly damp forehead with the back of my hand.

Now I opened it all the way, pulling out the contents and placing them on the bed in rows. I smiled, the first thing I picked up was my snow globe from Harry. I shook it lightly, making the fake-snow fall on the happy looking people. It looked like a scene from a movie. Ha! Who would have thought. Me, having a dream date like one in a movie.... I placed my snow globe absentmindedly on a free space atop our dresser. A place where I'd see it every day.

I went through that box, making my way around the big house, placing things where I thought they should go. Harry could critique it if he wanted when he got home. I didn't really care, I just wanted the things out of the boxes. It wasn't official until the boxes were gone.

The lads were gone for a long time, I'd gotten through almost all the boxes, and was putting away clothes in my part of the dresser when Harry walked in. His face was happy, radiant.

“You've gotten far, you didn't have to do this by yourself. I would have been happy to help.” Harry smiled, beginning to help me fold clothes and put them away.

“I didn't have anything else to do...” I half-lied, shrugging. I didn't want to wait for him, he was off doing who-knows what with the boys and didn't tell me. Didn't invite me... If the boys have to know why don't I? My teeth began to grind together, I hoped he didn't notice.

“What were you guys up to?” I asked, trying to make my voice sound nonchalant. Pretending I didn't care that much. But in reality I did care. I wanted to know what made him so happy-looking. And why I wasn't allowed to be involved with it.

“Nothing important.” He replied, shaking his head, but his smile remained. Why would he keep lying to me??

“I'm gonna go get another box.” I said quickly, taking my phone off the bed-side table and hurrying out the door and down the stairs. Before I got the box I dialed Kate.

“Hey Ariel, what's up?” She answered.

“Do you have any plans for tomorrow?” I asked.

“No, why?” She replied, slight worry in her voice.

“Okay, uh, can I come over?” I questioned, I know it's rude to invite yourself over, but I needed to see Kate.

“Sure, what time?” She answered, still worried.

“Er... Is it okay if it's early, like 7?” I responded, getting antsy, worried that Harry would come down stairs looking for me.

“In the morning? I guess, no problem, but what's wrong?” She asked.

“It's a long story, but I have to go now. I'll explain everything tomorrow.” I promised, relieved that she'd said yes.

“Okay, okay. I'll see you in the morning.” She replied.

“Thank you so much Kate, bye.” I said, pressing the 'end' button and grabbing the first box I saw, then hurrying up the stairs.

“These are cute.” Harry smirked, standing on the opposite side of the bed from me, holding up a pair of never-worn, crotch-less, black lace underwear that Kate had gotten me as a joke. A grin spread across my face, the whole lying thing pushed to the back of my mind.

“Having fun, are we?” I questioned, raising an eyebrow.

“Yes, I'd say so.” He wiggled the undies, then stretched them around his head like a hat, pushing his hair back. He looked ridiculous. I couldn't help but laugh, walking slowly toward him. Mischief filled his eyes, a challenging smirk lit up his face. An adorably-dorky panty hat topped off the whole image.

“Can I have my panties back?” I asked. His face scrunched up for a second, as if deep in thought. Then the mischief returned.

“No, I like them.” He answered simply.

“Hm... I guess it wasn't a question. Give me my panties back, Styles.” I smirked.

“Panties, what a word-” He began giving one of his dorky speeches when I jumped up on the bed between us. A hysterical laugh left his lips as he ran away, around the bed and out the door.

“Dammit! Harold!” I exclaimed, not being able to hold back my answering giggle. I hurried out the bedroom door after him. I watched him jump the last four steps and land with a thud. I didn't risk jumping them too, sure that I'd fall on my face. He stood in the middle of the living room, facing me.

“You look absolutely absurd.” I commented.

“Don't I always?” He challenged. I considered that for a moment, a short laugh burst through my lips.

“I suppose.” I agreed.

“Hey! You were not supposed to agree!” He exclaimed, distracted now. I laughed so hard he had time to recover and run back upstairs. I laughed as I ran, stumbling a bit. By the time I got upstairs he sat, criss-cross, on the bed.

“I believe I look quite nice with my new accessory, I could patent this.” He mused.

“I'd like to see the reactions of the people you go to about it.” I grinned. I pounced on him, we wrestled on the bed until I ended up holding Harry's hands by his head, on top of him.

“Gotcha.” I smirked.

“Yes you have, but now what are you going to do? As soon as you let go I'll just tickle you until I can get away again. Which probably won't be long, you're very ticklish.” He grinned back.

“You wouldn't.” I narrowed my eyes at him.

“Oh, but I would.” He chuckled, and I knew he wasn't lying. He would use his secret weapon when he knew he was losing.

“All I want are my panties back. Not many girls out there would have to wrestle for that.” I raised my eyebrows once again.

“And what if I say no again?” He questioned.

“I believe you are in no position to say that. I win.” I grinned, snatching the undies off his head and pinning his arm back down before he could tickle me. His hair was completely messed up now, perfectly cute.

“You are better than I thought, young grasshopper.” He claimed, his eyes playful, boring into mine.

“You'd better believe it.” I joked, pushing myself up to sit beside him on the bed. I balled up the pair of underwear and threw it into the open drawer, celebrating when I made it. Harry chuckled beside me. He wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me into his lap.

“We have to finish unpacking.” I reminded, our noses were practically touching.

We've got forever.” He mumbled back. Before he could do anything, I jumped to kiss him. That word: 'forever'. It sent sparks through my body.

I still couldn't pick a word to explain the feeling when we kissed. Intoxicating, maybe... I just knew that it was the best feeling in the word. We got lost in each other's kiss, but only for a minute or two. Then we got back to unpacking. It took us a long time to finish because we mostly fooled around... Believe it or not we didn't break a thing. Surprising, I know.

Harry made us tacos for supper, which turned out very good. I had two. We went to bed early, together. I almost felt guilty when I got up at six and left without waking him up, but then I remembered why I was doing it...
