Always and Never

Ariel Tanner believed that love was nothing but an illusion, a sick prank your brain pulls on you. But when she meets Harry Styles she begins to question everything she has put together about love. This frustrating boy was the only truly genuine person she'd ever met. How someone like him could even exist blew her mind. Harry, on the other hand, was amazed at how closed off Ariel acted. He made it his mission to knock down the walls she'd built around herself, because behind the flirting and the sarcasm, he got a glimpse of a girl that he wanted to become as close as humanly possible to. But did he really want to know everything behind those walls?

8. Men.

What do you do for a living Ariel?” Niall asked at one point in our conversation. Ah, the one question I'd rather never hear... Ha! He actually seemed interested! How strange...

“I'm a waitress at The Delaunay.” I answered. Not impressive- well, it is a 5 star restaurant... but still. A waitress. I mean seriously.

“I love that place!” Zayn grinned. I smiled back at him, at least he was making an effort to cover up how lousy my job is.

“Speaking of work, my shift starts at 3. You wouldn't mind driving me home at 2, right?” I asked, turning to Harry.

“I was hoping you'd stay longer, but I'll drive you home.” He smirked, though the humor didn't seem to touch his eyes...

“Thank you.” I said. I can't be late again! My boss said he'd fire me after one more time, even though the customers I serve return the most, just to see me.

“How often do you work?” Harry asked.

“Monday through Friday.” I answered. 3-6:30... The 'afternoon tea' shift. If people tipped well I made okay money, and normally all it took was a few compliments and a little flirting to get a good tip. Well, maybe a lot of flirting... That's why they love me!

A soft sigh escaped Harry's lips. “What?” I questioned at his unnecessary sigh.

“Nothing.” He shook his head.

“He doesn't like that you work so much.” Louis smirked.

“Really?” I asked, a grin spreading across my face.

“I-uh... I, well- Yeah...” Harry stumbled over his words, is cheeks turned red again. He blushed more than me!

“Are you blushing?” Liam grinned.

“No, no I'm not.” Harry denied, only getting more red.

“He is!” Niall laughed.

“I've never seen Harry blush in front of a girl.” Louis mused .

“You're kidding.” I raised my eyebrows at Harry.

“No, it's strange to see.” Louis laughed.

“Oh my god.” Harry groaned, falling into me and hiding his face in my neck. I laughed, running my fingers through his hair. I could feel his hot cheeks against my skin.

“Maybe he's getting sick.” I joked, kissing his hair. He groaned again into my neck. The boys and I all laughed.

“Hey, I'm hungry. Will you cook for me?” I changed the subject. He sat up, a shy smile on his lips.

“I could try to cook for you, what would you like?” He questioned.

“Surprise me.” I replied. He grinned, getting up and walking to the kitchen, leaving me with Louis, Liam, Zayn, and Niall. I chatted with them while I waited, they mostly told me embarrassing stories about Harry, and I sat there laughing. He was more adorable than I imagined. Less of a tough guy, no where near the player he acted like!

Liam was in the middle of telling me a new story when the fire alarm pierced through his words. I covered my ears, jumping up and making my way to the kitchen. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the boys stand, prepared to leave the house. I assumed it wasn't an actual fire, it was just some smoke from the oven or something, but I didn't know for sure. I walked through the kitchen doors just in time to see Harry retrieve a burnt black pizza from the oven. My laughter filled the room as fast as the smoke alarm had! Harry laughed as well as he watched me get a chair from the table and stand on it to turn the alarm off.

“Wanna order pizza?” He asked, smiling sheepishly.

“Sure.” I chuckled. “You didn't burn it that bad...” I trailed off. He really did. How did he even manage to do this??

“I thought that if I turned the oven up higher it would cook faster, and I guess it kinda worked...” He muttered. I chuckled again. Men.

“Can I call the pizza place with your phone?” He grinned cheekily, pulling it out of his back pocket. I totally forgot that he still had it.

“Go ahead, hey, what were you looking at earlier?” I wondered.

“Nothing really.” He shrugged, dialing the number for a pizza place. I guess I didn't care that much. There was nothing super personal on there... By the time the pizza came and we all ate, it was time for Harry to drive me home.

“I had a good day.” I smiled at him before I got out. Like, a really good day... Dates are never that fun. Therefore it wasn't a date, I thought, it was two good friends hanging out.

“I did too. I hope we can do that again sometime.” He grinned. Did he mean that? He didn't look like he was lying, then again, who would want to see me again?? He was probably lying to spare my feelings, he was too nice to flat out tell me that I'm a disgusting human being. When I got out, he surprised me by getting out too.

“I have your keys and your phone.” He grinned, walking over to my side of the car. I waited for him to hold them out for me, but he didn't.

“Where are they?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

“That's for me to know and for you to find out.” He smirked, coming closer. He leaned down, kissing my forehead, my nose, each cheek, and finally my lips. It was the same shock as earlier today. I could have kissed him forever, but the little voice in the back of my mind reminded me that I had work. Hmm, this could possibly be the last time I ever feel this... Maybe he'll call again just because he likes the electric enough.

I ran my hands slowly down his back, putting each in his back pockets, retrieving my phone from one and my keys from the other. Wow his pants were tight... Tighter than mine! Ha! I pulled away, smiling. My lips left one last kiss on his jaw, then I turned around to walk to my apartment. I jogged up the stairs, knowing that once again, I'd left him wanting more.

A sigh emitted from my chest as I unlocked the door and set my stuff on the shelf beside the door. I collapsed on my bed, smiling up at the ceiling. I didn't know what the feeling was, that was growing inside me, but I liked it. It was strange, powerful, exhilarating... I hummed as I got dressed in the uncomfortable uniform. Looking in the mirror, I realized that the person that looked back didn't look like Ariel Tanner, or Georgia Rose Tanner... The person in the mirror looked, happy... It's not that I'm never happy, it's just that if there's no reason to be happy, like going to work for example, then I wasn't. But I couldn't make the look in my eyes go away... Like I was a different person than I was a few days ago. That's not possible, nothing's happened in the past few days that could change me.

It's probably the kiss, yes, that could have definitely jump started my brain. I shook it off and got my purse, throwing my keys and phone into it and slinging it around my body. I was walking to my car when someone whistled behind me. I closed my eyes and clenched my fists.

“Fuck.” I whispered. I turned around to face him. Called it...
