Chapter 76

Liv’s POV

For the next thirty minutes, I stayed sat on the couch, not paying attention or looking at any of the two guys in the room. I gave all my attention to my phone. I still didn’t want to talk to them, I didn’t to be here with them, and I was so close to being able to leave, but I just couldn’t. Something about the way Harry’s voice sounded when he told me to wait, just made me stay. I couldn’t help it really, I had said something that probably hurt his feelings, and even though part of it was true, I still somewhat wish I hadn’t said it.

As I was sitting on the couch, on my phone, I decided to go ahead and look at the tabloids. I knew I might regret it, like I usually do, but as always I go ahead and look at them anyway. I had nothing better to do except for playing games on my phone. I scrolled through different articles, waiting for one to catch my eye, but nothing caught my attention. There were a few that looked pretty interesting, but opening them I found that the story had almost nothing to do with the title, or the story sounded very unrealistic. That’s usually what tabloids are though.

I kept mindlessly scrolling until I thought I had caught a glimpse of my name on the screen. I quickly scrolled back up, quickly scanning each article, until I found the one I was looking for.

Most celebrities get excited when they see their name as part of a headline. They get excited about it even before they read it, and after its read most are still giddy about it whether its good or bad. Me however, I get nervous when I see my name in a headline. I get this worry that feels the same as when a little kid is about to get caught or in trouble. Seeing your name in a tabloid is just another thing that the media has caught you doing and wants to get you in trouble for. But instead of your teacher or parents finding out, everyone finds out. It starts as maybe small, little things that aren’t that big of a deal, and then it spreads like teenage gossip. Each time the story gets told, more things get added on to male it more entertaining and interesting. It could be just everyday people talking about it, or it could be another tabloid website, but it always gets changed. Even the good things in the articles can get changed up and turned into bad rumors.

I go ahead and press the link to the story. No matter how much I told myself to just not read it, I knew the articles existence, and I had to figure out what it said. Once the page was loaded, I scanned through it first before I actually read it. I wasn’t really surprised to see what I saw, I knew it was going to make its way into the social media at some point, I just didn’t really think about it. As I now actually read through the article, it was now something I hadn’t expected. The article started out as just talking about and showing pictures of Liam, Louis, and I at the charity carnival. Then a few more pictures were added with Eleanor in them. The part that I wasn’t expecting was about the pictures that were shown of just Liam and I getting lunch and going to get ice cream, then me leaving the park with him.

The first paragraph of the article had just been a mere seven sentences about the three, and then four of us at the carnival. But when I got to the pictures of Liam and I, it was paragraph after paragraph about us. Pretty much the whole thing was about us apparently dating. My mouth slight opened as I continued to read the words. They were just bashing me on their thought that I was supposedly dating both Harry and Liam.

“What are you looking at?” Niall asked.

“Um, nothing, just this article,” I told Niall, but that wasn’t enough information for him.

He grabbed my phone out of my hand and began to read what was on the screen. I saw the smile grow on his face as he continued reading; he obviously found this all amusing.

“What is it?” Harry asked. Niall held up a finger signaling him to wait as he finished off reading the last few sentences.

“I’m very disappointed in you Liv,” Niall tried to said seriously, but let a small laugh out.

“What?” Harry asked.

“I never would’ve expected you to cheat on my friend, and with another member of the band, how could you?” Niall joked, talking in a fake, sad voice, while pressing a hand to his chest.

“Shut up,” I laughed, pushing him back on the couch.

I tried my best not to show that the article bothered me, even though it did. I hated when rumors would start about me, because even some of the people I personal knew would believe them until I told them otherwise. I knew Niall would make a big deal about it if I let him know that the article bothered me. He would go on and tell me that I shouldn’t let it bother me because it was just made up shit people get paid to come up with. Then after Niall finished, Harry would usually comment saying that if he wanted me to, he would go find the bastard and go beat him up for me.

“Will someone tell me what happened?” Harry asked annoyed that he was left out and confused to what was going on.

“According to the tabloids, Liv here is dating you and Liam,” Niall told him.

Harry’s confused look had now turned into a scowl just like I knew it would. This is exactly what Harry was afraid of. Even if he knew Liam and I weren’t really dating, I knew it bothered him to see it online. Now the whole world thought Liam and I were together instead of Harry just being worried that he might like me, even though he doesn’t. I was actually starting to feel a bit more okay with this article because of how much it was bothering Harry. I knew that was probably a bad thought to have, but it wasn’t fair that I was the bad guy in the publics eye when it was really Harry. Harry dated me as a publicity stunt and was drunk driving, yet I’m the one the media is trying to point fingers at. It just feels like Harry gets away with almost anything, so seeing that this was bothering him was amusing to me.
