Locked Away

A/N THIS IS AN AVENGERS FAN FICTION, PLEASE NOTE THAT I DON'T READ THE COMICS, I ONLY HAVE THE MOVIES TO GO ON, SO PLEASE FORGIVE ME IF THE DETAILS ARE A LITTLE SKETCHY.

I am Maddy Stark.
I have been in a cryosleep chamber for a long time, as an experiment of mine. He is Howard Stark. We created the basis for Captain America together, and I designed other things as well that brought benefits to the world.

When Maddy is finally awakened, the world has changed. Thanos is trying to take over the world. Loki is helping the Avengers at Nick Fury's insistence. Will Maddy fall for Loki? Or will Tony keep her locked away from him?

6. So much for an escape

A/N OF DOOM

Hello! I am so so so sorry about bad updation, but my internet stuffed up and so did my laptop. I apologise without wax for any inconveniences caused.

Maddy's POV

I wake up, but I don't open my eyes. Then I remember everything. I sit up quickly and see Steve sat in chair next to the bed. That's very awkward, but knowing Steve, it must be for some kind of chivalrous reason. I smile and put a blanket from the bed over him before remembering my original plan. I had to find Howard and ask him exactly what was going on.
I don't know how I did it, but I created a duplicate of myself and sent it running around, looking for an alternative exit. I went the opposite way, and luckily found a flight of stairs. I kept the duplicate going, (but how, I didn't know) in case Tony or Steve came after me.As I start to descend I hear a muffled yell of "Maddy!"

Bollocks, Steve must have woken up.I pick up my pace until I'm running down the stairs at full tilt. I finally reach the bottom of the stairs and run through a foyer to the exit, hoping that I am. A lady sat behind a desk stands up and shouts at me. "Hey, slow down! You can't be in that much of a hurry!"

I don't even spare her a glance. I skid across the foyer, narrowly missing people. I push through the doors and end up on the sidewalk. I stare upwards for a moment and I'm absolutely gobsmacked by how high the buildings are. I turn back to the building I came out of and I see Steve carefully pushing through people to get to me. I know that Steve would never hurt me, but I'm too scared to stop. Before he reaches me I start running again, to where I don't know. I can't run for long periods of time, so I made sure to run down alleyways and other streets as much as I can. Unfortunately I can't lose Steve, and if I'm honest with myself, I don't actually want to be lost. So I stop, lean against the wall, and try to catch my breath. Steve stops too, once he's caught up. He leans against the opposite wall of the alleyway.

"So, what was that about?" Steve questions casually, not even out of breath. Now that I think about it, I'm not really out of breath either.

"I-I was trying to find Howard. I had to find answers."

Steve smiles, one of his special smiles he generally reserved for Peggy and me. "Always trying to find answers, aren't you?" I smile back. Then I really do need answers.

"But where is Howard, Steve? You didn't tell me last night. In fact, you avoided that topic completely."

"Can I tell you when we get back to Stark Tower? The Avengers have all arrived and I think we should both be there."

"Just this once, I'll let you off. And who on earth are the Avengers?"

(A/N Don't blame Maddy for not knowing. She's been under a figurative rock and in a literal box.)
Steve doesn't answer, just gives me a secretive smile and pulls me back to the tower. He never smiled this much before, I wonder what happened.

When we do get to it, I stop and look up. Steve is obviously confused as to why, but doesn;t question me.

"I'm scared, Steve. What happened to the world?"

"It's called progress, Maddy. You should know that, you contributed to it."

"I know, but not this much. This is...alien."

Now Steve has a knowing look on his face. What is with all of these facial expressions? "I've actually met several aliens and you can trust me on this, a lot of them aren't as smart or as advanced as you think they are. In all seriousness, a big part of the alien population is pretty hopeless."

How does Steve know that? How could he know that?
