A Thousand Years (Sequel to Red)

The moment you realize that in the blink of an eye you have lost everything, its the most terrifying moment of my life. As I drive away from not only my friends, but my family the recent events played in my head. Its hard to believe that in an instant you can looses everyone important to you. Here I am, driving away from the people who picked me up when I fell down and got me where I am today. The people whom I called my family.

43. Love Is A Maze

***Beth's POV***

The plane finally landed in Aspen and I looked out on the large snow covered mountains through the window of the plane. The snow sparkled in the sunlight and light snowflakes fluttered to the ground. When we got off of the plane we walked into the airport and made our way to baggage claim. As soon as we grabbed our luggage we made our way out to a car that Simon had gotten for us. We piled our stuff in the back and got in. As we drove we looked out the windows and watched the snow covered landscape pass by. We were all in awe. Sure, it snowed in London but the way the snow fell gently on the mountains and trees, it was beautiful. Finally after about 45 minutes of driving we reached the house that we would be staying in. The house was huge, it had a think blanket of snow covering it. We got out of the car and grabbed our bags out of the back. As soon as we walked in we found ourselves in the living room.

"Okay so rooms, Liam with Beth, Me and El, Perrie and Zayn, Niall and Em and Harry and Mir." Louis said.

"I'm not sharing a room with him." Mir said.

"Mir, there are five rooms. Unless someone wants to switch with you, you kinda have to." Louis said.

"I'll sleep on the couch then." She said.

She still hadn't forgiven him. We all tried to persuade them to talk about it on the plane but they refused to talk to each other.

I sighed. "Miranda, please?"

"Elizabeth, you of all people should know how I feel! How did you feel when you walked in on Liam snogging Danielle?! Didn't feel too good huh?!" She snapped.

"I know exactly how I felt Miranda! I agree it was heartbreaking and horrifying but look, I forgave Liam?!" I snapped back.

"Yeah after six damn months!" She shouted.

"Thats because it took Liam six months to tell me what actually happened! You know that! Harry told you instantly and you still didn't forgive him." I shouted.

"Well I saw the way Harry looked at Taylor! Hes not over her! I mean, he was texting her all last night!" Miranda spat.

We all turned to Harry who was looking at the ground.

"Fine Miranda, take the damn couch! Sorry for trying to be a good friend and patch your relationship back together." I hissed before walked up the stairs with my bag. I chose a room and set my bag down. Liam walked in a few moments later and he shut the door behind him. We could hear yelling from downstairs and I just sighed and sat down on the bed.

"Just let her cool down. Remember how you felt." He told me, sitting down next to me and rubbing my lower back.

I laid my head on his shoulder and he took my hand in his. He intertwined our fingers and began rubbing the back of my hand with this thumb. We just stayed silent listening to the muffled shouts from downstairs. Liam pulled me into his lap and held me tightly. We soon fell asleep and at that moment I felt safe and sound.

I woke up later that night and went downstairs to the kitchen. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 3:30 am. I crept into the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water.

"Beth?" A voice said from behind me.

I jumped and almost dropped the glass. I turned around and saw Mir standing there, her eyes bloodshot and dried mascara running down her cheeks. She looked... broken.

"Mir! You scared me." I gasped.

"Sorry... I- I wanted to say I'm sorry." He mumbled.

I set the glass of water on the counter and walked over to her and pulled her into a hug.

"No, I'm sorry. I know how you feel. I didn't even want to be in the same room with Liam after I caught him." I whispered.

I felt her shaking and I knew she was crying. I felt hopeless then. All I could do is stand there and hold my best friend while she cried her eyes out over a guy. I knew that I couldn't stop the tears from falling because I was once in her place.

"I'm sorry, I'm ruining your shirt." She said, pulling away.

"Shh, its fine. I can wash it. What matters most right now is you. Here sit down." I said.

She sat down on one of the stools and I got a wet towel. I began wiping the mascara off of her cheeks. Once her cheeks were mascara free I grabbed a kettle and began heating some water up. Once the hot water was done I poured her a cup of tea and sat across from her. I could tell that she had so many emotions built up inside of her.

"Let it all out." I told her quietly.

I saw a tear slip down her cheek.

"It makes you feel un loved. Like you never really mattered in your relationship. Like every single I love you was just a lie, like he was trying to lure me into his heart then break me. It- it was almost like it was his plan all along." She said, silent tears slipping down her cheeks.

"Kinda like he lied to your through the entire relationship?" I asked.

Her eyes glistened in the dim light of the kitchen. She licked her lips and nodded. She clutched the mug tightly making her knuckles white.

"Why is love such a game, like each step in a relationship is just another level and finally when you're heart broken they've won the game." She whimpered.

"Because they are afraid. They are afraid to fall in love. Love... it does scary things to people. You get lost in their eyes, its like a maze. When you start it, it all seems so easy, sure, there may be a few sharp turns but then you're always met with a curve. The closer you get to the middle, the harder it gets to find your way out. And finally, when you get to the center, it will take you forever to get out." I whispered.

"Love is like a maze..." She whispered, repeating my words. "I'm lost in the middle. I can't find my way out..."

"Because a lot of times, there is no way out. Love traps you and keeps you prisoner. And finally... when you break, you can't find your way out. You're lost. You know why?" I asked her.

"Because you never really get over someone who took you to the center of the maze." I told her.

The room was silent and I saw a single silent tear slip down her cheek.

"And he took me to the center of the maze." She whispered.

"Miranda, he loves you. He loves you more than anything. Taylor is just the sharp turn in the maze. Even if you're at the center, the sharp turns can still haunt you. You need to fight back. Fight for whats yours." I whispered to her. "Don't. Let. Her. Win."

It was silent for a moment.

"I'm going to fight for whats mine. I won't let her take my place at the center of the maze." Miranda whispered.

Thats when I knew, the tears would no longer fall.
