A Thousand Years (Sequel to Red)

The moment you realize that in the blink of an eye you have lost everything, its the most terrifying moment of my life. As I drive away from not only my friends, but my family the recent events played in my head. Its hard to believe that in an instant you can looses everyone important to you. Here I am, driving away from the people who picked me up when I fell down and got me where I am today. The people whom I called my family.

61. Goodbye

***Liam's POV***

We all sat around the table at dinner, none of us really paying attention to the food on our plates but rather our thoughts. I had arrived back in London about a week ago and things still have not changed. I used my fork to pick at the pasta that sat on my plate, none of us had an appetite right now. All of our minds were on one person. The worst part was, none of us knew if she was dead or alive and it was eating away at us. We all prayed for the good news that she is alive but that day has still yet to come. I sat with my head propped up on one hand, my fork in the other.

"So hows the weather?" Miranda mumbled, trying to make conversation.

"Rainy." Emily replied in the same tone.

It was quiet for a moment until Zayn spoke up.

"What...what if she really is gone? We can't continue to act like this. None of us are ourselves." Zayn sighed.

My eyes shot up to him and I glared at him. "Shes alive. Shes going to be okay and we are going to find her." I spat.

"Liam hes right. The thing is though, she made such an impact on our lives when we met her that we can't be happy without her in our lives." Louis mumbled.

"Oh she had an impact on your life?! Try knowing her for fifteen fucking years! Try loving her for fifteen years and when you finally get her, you loose her! That girl is not just part of my heart. She is my heart! Without her, I'm broken! I'm nothing!" I yelled.

"Liam stop!" Niall said. "Please. Just can we all calm down?"

"Fine." I mumbled.

As we all fell silent again I began to think about her. The memories we shared. I stare out the window, wondering if she was looking at the same dreary sky, longing to escape from whatever place she is trapped in. I began thinking about the time I took her to her house to show her that there was light in this darkness, you just need to dig deep.

-Flashback-

"It seems so sad in here." She whispered.

"Well lets see if we can bring this place back to life. Remember when I would chase you down the stairs and that one time I slipped on the floor, right where we're standing while trying to chase you." I asked.

"And instead of helping you up I just laughed." She grinned.

And remember when we slid down the handrails?" I asked.

"That was fun." She grinned. "But we were like 7."

I walked up the stairs and sat on the railing. "And we're both almost 19 now. Its never to late to act like a kid again Beth."

I slid down the railing and grinned. She smirked at me and walked up the other staircase of the stairs and sat on the railing. She looked down.

"Ugh. I was so fearless when we were younger!" She laughed.

She slowly slid down and her feet hit the wood floor. I took her hand and pulled her to the living room. I pointed to the old wooden chest.

"And remember when we were playing hide and seek and I hid in there and it took me three hours to find you?" I asked.

I picked up the pillows on the couch. "Remember the countless pillow fights?"

She nodded and picked up a pillow. She grinned at me and hit me with it. I immediately began hitting me back.

"See? There are happy memories still in this house. You just need to dig deep to find them." I told her.

I took her hand again and pulled her into the kitchen. "And the time we tried to make chocolate cake for your mums birthday but ended up covering each other head to toe in cake batter."

"And you licked the cake batter off my nose." She blushed.

"Yeah well you licked it off my forehead." I smirked.

I opened the cabinet that held the pots and pans. "And remember when we made these pots into drums, waking up your parents?"

"Remember our flour fights? When we were washing dishes we would throw handfuls of soap bubbles at each other?" I said.

Taking her hand again, I led her into the dining room.

"Remember putting sheets over this table and covering the sides. We pretended that we were in a cave and there were dinosaurs outside the cave." I grinned. "Remember when our families spent Thanksgiving here and during the meal you and I snuck under the table almost the entire meal without anyone noticing?"

She grinned widely. "They all thought we had gone to the bathroom. We also tied your dads shoelaces together."

I grinned. "Now that was funny, when he tried to walk he looked like a penguin."

I took her hand again and led her up the stairs to the top. "Remember sitting up here when my parents came to pick me up and watching your parents talk to mine?"

She nodded. I pulled her into the bathroom. "And remember taking a bath in our swimsuits because it was to cold to go swimming in a pool? And that time we made silly faces in the bathroom mirror and took pictures? I still have those pictures."

I led her to her fathers office next. "Remember when I would sit in your fathers chair and pretend to be the boss? Or we would hide under his desk and tell ghost stories?"

I led her to her parents room next. "And the time when both of our parents were going out and they left us with this annoying babysitter? And we jumped on this bed and had a pillow fight causing feathers to go everywhere? The babysitter was yelling at us to stop the entire time." I grinned.

I led her to the library next. "In this room we would read each other stories or just tell each other stories about life." I led her over to the rocking chair and she sat down.

"Remember the story I told you about wanting to be a sprinter in the Olympics?" I asked.

"Yeah." She said.

"Its funny because it almost came true. We were 6 when I told that story." I smiled. "In this room was also the first time I heard you sing. I had gone to the bathroom and when I was coming back I heard you singing A Drop In The Ocean. I thought your voice was the most beautiful thing I had ever heard. Its part of what made me fall in love with you."

She followed me into her bedroom next.

"And this room has the most memories. The pillow fights, the ghost story telling under the sheet with the flashlight. When we pained the walls in here, when we put puzzles together, the pictures we took. Most of the things we did, we did in here."

I took her hand and led her down the stairs and outside.

"Remember when we would sit on the porch in the summer and drink lemonade and eat brownies? And when we would play in the pool or roll down the hill. Playing tag with our friends, the snow ball fights, the snow angles. We even climbed those trees a few times." I said.

I took her hands into mine. "See Beth, this house may have some dark memories, but think of all those memories we shared together. All of those memories made me fall in love with you. And the fact that we met when we were 5 years old and became best friends instantly, and here we are today, still best friends and in love, its remarkable. Considering everything both of us have been through, its almost like a dream."

She didn't say anything, she just pressed her lips to mine. "You made me realize the bright light in all this darkness. You not only made all of these memories come back but you made me relive them. Those were some of the happiest moments in my life."

"Liam."

"Liam..."

"Liam Payne!"

I snapped out of my thoughts and saw everyone looking at me.

"What?" I asked.

"Your phone is ringing." El told me.

I took my phone out of my pocket and answered it.

"Hello?" My tired, sorrowful voice asked.

"Liam, how are you?" The voice on the other end said.

The voice broke my heart. It shattered it. I stood up, rage, anger, hate in my eyes.

"Where is she?" I asked.

I heard him chuckled on the other line.

"WHERE THE HELL IS SHE YOU FUCKING SON OF A BITCH!" I yelled.

Everyone stated at me in shock. They knew who was on the other line.

"Here. She's right here." He laughed.

"Beth..." I whispered. "Beth, baby, please. Please speak to me. Tell me that you're there." I said, leaning up against the counter, my head in my hands.

"L-Liam." I heard her faint voice choke out.

"If you're really Beth and not someone else you'll be able to tell me the color crayon you gave me the day we met." I said through tears.

"Purple Liam. The crayon was purple." She mumbled .

"Oh my god. Beth I swear I am going to find you. I will come for you." I choked out, tears streaming down my face.

"Liam its over." She said, I could tell she was crying.

"Whats over. Noting is over Beth. Please. I am going to find you and everything is going to be okay." I said, tears falling from my bloodshot eyes.

"Put the phone on speaker phone. I need to tell all of you something." She said through tears.

I shakily took my phone away from my ear and put it on speaker. Everyones face was white as she began to talk.

"Is everyone listening?" She asked faintly.

"Yeah." We all whispered.

"Zayn... you were an incredible friend to me, you are like my older brother and I will never forget you. Perrie, you are one of my best friends and I know I could trust you with anything. Niall, since the day we met you have been nothing but kind to me and you are an amazing friend. Take care of Emily, please don't break her heart. Emily, since the day we met when we were 10 you have been one of my closest friends. You helped me through so many rough patches in my life and I wouldn't be here today if you hadn't helped pull me through it all. Harry, you are like an older brother to me and I am so lucky to have you as one of my best friends. Don't ever forget that you will always be an old man in my eyes an I'll always be an old lady. Mir, you and Em both help me through so much in my life. You  put faith in myself and told me that i could do it when I doubted myself. El, you are an incredible girl and I am proud to have called you one of my best friends. You and Louis are amazing together, don't ever forget that. Don't ever let a stupid little fight come between you two. Louis... since the moment I met you, you have shown nothing but kindness towards me. You helped my break free from my old life and helped me start a new one. When Liam and I broke up you were the only one there for me, you were my shoulder to cry on and I will never forget that. I will never forget anything you've done for me. Liam... I- I don't know where to start. Liam James Payne, I love you with all my heart and not a single person on this godforsaken planet can change that. Since the day I met you when we were five years old you have been there for me. Whether you were by my side or not, just the thought of you made me smile. Please don't forget that not a day goes by that I don't love you Liam. I- I need you to let me go and I need you to move on. I'm not going to be around any longer and its for the best. I don't want any of you to mourn over me, I'm not worth it." She said, tears clearly falling  from her cheeks.

"Beth. No You can't I won't let you." I choked out.

"I don't have a choice Liam." She whispered.

"BETH DAMN IT STAY WITH ME! YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!" I screamed.

"I love all of you with all my heart. I love you Liam." She whispered, holding back more tears.

"ELIZABETH LEAH ASHTON STAY WITH ME! I'M GOING TO FIND YOU... Elizabeth, you have no clue how damn much you mean to me." I choked out, tears pouring out of my eyes.

"Goodbye." She whispered.

A loud shot rang through my ears and silence filled the other line.
