"Remember when we were little, we used to always walk down this road? We only did when we ever wanted to be alone," he said.
"Yeah. So much has changed since then."
"I miss that feeling."
"So do I."

4. Chapter Four

"Can I talk to you later?" Niall asked me once we all got out of the water. Britain and Savannah had just gotten here, and we were all walking to the beach.

He took my hand in his, sliding his fingers in between mine, my fingertips resting just above his knuckles. Thank god we were walking behind Britain. He would tease us like we were "love birds." He always does that.

We turned the corner, leading us farther away from the woods. As we walked, the trees slowly faded away, like they were somehow evaporating into the warm, summer air. We passed the ice cream shop, then up the hill and to the beach.

The second I felt the soft, white sand between my toes, I knew it had been waiting for me. Waiting all these years to make me feel at home again.

The air smelled of lake water, just refreshing enough that you just want to float on top of the surface, forgetting everything.

"Syndey, do you want to come to my house for supper tonight? My mom said I was able to have you over," Niall said. We were walking home, just me and him. I smiled.

"Sure. I'm not doing anything anyways. Just hanging out in my room, actually."

A smile spread across his face. "Yeah, I would do that, too. But now you have plans!"

"Thanks to the ultimate plan-maker!"

He spread his arms out in front of him, imagining there was an audience cheering him on.

"So, what time should I be at your place?" I asked him, causing him to lower his arms.

"About 5:30. It'll give my mom a chance to make it. Is that ok with you?"

We came to a stop, right where our two neighborhoods intersect. I go to the right, down the long gravel road. Niall goes to the left, his house to blocks away on the black pavement.

"Yeah. What are we having?"

He leaned in, closing half the space between us. We were so close that I could feel his breathing against me. 6 inches between us.

"My mom'll surprise you." He whispered placing a soft kiss on my cheek. He then walked away.

I stood there for 5 minutes straight. Why did he just do that?

Yet...it's not like I didn't want him to do it.
