Hidden letters *complete*

Some things are not meant to be discovered. And the letters Adele found are one of these things.

7. Chapter Seven

I looked around me as I opened my eyes. The flat was quiet and I felt peaceful. But as I stood up; I remembered what happened yesterday. It has been the strangest day ever. First the letters, then my parents and Darcy’s father reaction and then, Wikipedia.

I walked into the kitchen where I found a note from Darcy saying she went out. I looked for something to eat in the cupboards and ate breakfast quickly. Then, I showered and got dressed before switching my laptop on. I had to check what I saw last night. A short while later, I typed Harry Styles in Wikipedia but it seemed I hadn’t dreamed.

Here it was; the exact same thing.

Mr. Styles was from Holmes Chapel. And then, I understood. My parents lived in Holmes Chapel as well and they are as old as him; they must have been at school together. H.S must be Harry Styles’ initials. And their reaction fits perfectly, then.

I put my laptop away and rested against the wall, wondering what I should do. I could ask my parents but what if my father get angry? If I got it right; he was jealous of H.S. Or maybe, I should ask Darcy’s father. But it would be weird to talk about someone’s past love life as I barely know him.

I sighed and waited a long while, still not knowing what to do, when I heard the front door open. I rushed into the hall to greet Darcy; I had something to ask her.

We talked a little and I decided it was time for me to hear her answer to my question.

“Can I ask you something, Darcy?” I said awkwardly. I carried on as she nodded, “Why did only your father come yesterday and not your mother?” I hoped she wouldn’t get annoyed by my question.

To my surprise she smiled weakly before replying gently, “Well, I don’t know my mother. And my father is not really my father.”  She stopped a short while and I didn’t talk.

“As a matter of fact, Harry is my foster parent. He adopted me when I only was a baby. He raised me and I don’t care if he is not my real father; I love him a lot; he is my daddy.” I smiled at her.

“I asked him why he wasn’t married because I was surprised not to have a mother. He told me it was because he was waiting for the love of his life; he said he knew her and that he would wait for her, even if it would take his entire life,” she explained me. I stared at her agape, hoping she would say more about it.

To my relief, she did, “He said he loved her since he was young. He said he met her in his native town when he was still living there.”

I didn’t know what to think any more; I must be wrong. I have to be wrong.

I thanked Darcy and rushed back into my room where I looked for my phone. I dialled a number and waited for someone to answer.

“Adele! How are you?” I heard my mother’s voice exclaimed happily.

“Mum, I have something important to ask you,” I told her in a serious tone, “is Dad near you?” I didn’t want him to hear.

“No, he isn’t. What’s happening?” she asked me with a worried voice.

“I want you to tell me the truth. Do you know a man called Harry Styles?” My heart was pounding fast but she didn’t answer.

I was about to ask again but she finally replied,

“Yes, I do know Harry Styles.”
