14. Chapter Thirteen

Niall's POV

"Do you know this boy?" the man standing next to the doctor asked Brooklyn. I was getting a vibe that he was her father with the way they had almost identical eyes, except Brooklyn's were more feminine.

Brooklyn snatched the wig from her lap and slid it onto her bald head. "Yes," I could barely hear the word slip from her mouth.

My breathing was still heavy from my run to the room. My chest rose dramatically with each huff, while my eyes traveled from person to person. "I'm sorry. Did I interrupt something?" The answer to my dumb question was obvious.

"Yes, Mr.Horan," the doctor started, "You have interrupted something. Now will you please le-"

"No, don't leave." Brooklyn cut Dr.Jefferson off, with a cold, bitter tone. She patted the space next to her on the bed. I gave her a questioning look before I took my seat.

Her father gave me an angered look through the corner of his eye. I smirked, thinking of all the innocence I really show when I'm the total opposite.

"Mum, Dad. This is Niall. Niall, these are my parents." I smiled and waved at them. Disgust covered her father's face, while complete, and utter happiness covered her mother's. I looked down, a small snicker escaping my lips.

Haha, I thought, he hates me already.

"As I was saying, the cancer is only getting worse. Ms. Tenner, you have three months at the most," the doctor informed.

"What?" I asked at out of my mind. She told me it was getting better. No. Please, no. "No."

As a impulse a pulled her into my arms and hugged her. My arms wrapped around her waist. "It's okay, Niall," she whispered.

"You lied to me. You told me you were getting better." My thumbs rubbed circles onto her lower back.

"I didn't want you to worry."

Every short memory of her ran through my mind, but the longest was when we wrote the song. You have to be really special for me allow you to help me with my music. It was where I found my solitude, where I could be alone. But, I let Brooklyn bombard that. I let her help me.

Now, all I could do was worry about the girl I held in my arms. Though I barely knew her, it felt like I'd known her for years. Like she was.....Alicia.

The clearing of a throat made us break apart. My eyes met Dr.Jefferson's, the pale blue irises looked at me with sympathy, but they just moved to the clipboard clutched in his masculine hands. Brooklyn's parents exchanged sorrowful, worried glances before setting their eyes on her.

Brooklyn eyed them back, her hand slipping into mine and her fingers tangling into mine. It felt wrong and right at the same time. Sudden pangs of guilt surged through my body as my cheeks heated up.

"Brooklyn," her father warned. Her eyes narrowed into tiny slits, as if she was challenging him. ", this boy doesn't give me the right vibe. I don't want this to happen."

Happen? Seriously, I'm a grown adult. I can do whatever the hell I want.

Anger made my face cold as turned to face Brooklyn. Dr. Jefferson scurried out of the room, scared that he was facing our personal lives. She bit her lip, looking into my eyes. I turned to face him, my feet springing me off the bed. "She doesn't have to listen to you," I snapped, clenching my fists as I approached her father. He smirked.

"What are you gonna do? Blondie?"

My teeth gritted together as I tried holding back the anger that poured into my soul.

Hit him, Niall., my self conscience spoke. No, don't hit him. Brooklyn will hate you.

I used my first move was to unclench my fists and take a deep breath. "I'm sorry," I mumbled, moving towards the door.

What just happened?

"Mr. Horan." His voice was becoming more and more familiar each time he spoke, it haunted me the way his voice was noticiable from a mile away.

"Yes?" I questioned facing Dr. Jefferson and his pale eyes. He sighed running his fingers through his thick, white hair.

"Ms.Vacky tells me about this 'pizza ordeal' and I was wondering if I bought you a pizza would you eat atleast one piece?" He raised his eyebrows , waiting for an answer. And he got it when my stomach grumbled in response. "If I order it you eat more than one piece, without purdging, I could make your release quicker."

He spoke of the hospital like it was a prison or rehab. I felt my eyes widen in intrest as he continued to inform me about letting me go. Go home, be free, start boxing again. A smile inched it's way on my face at the pleasent thought.

"Really?" I asked, cheerfully. My eyes brightened, my grin grew wider, and my whole body jolted with excitment.

"Yes, sir." He nodded his head firmly.

"Then order me a pizza! Infact order me two! I don't care, I just want out!"

He smirked, swiveling on his heel and walking towards the door as I jumped for joy. "Glad to know you're enjoying your stay, Mr.Horan."

Brooklyn's POV

My bare feet padded their way down the long halls of the wing Niall was on. The cold of the tiles stung at my skin in a icy way. I continued to make my way to Niall's room, when I was met by Dr.Jefferson. An amused smirk played on his lips as he exited Niall's room.

"Hello, Ms.Tenner." he nodded and smiled. I sent a fake grin and kept walking. I didn't know why he did that, call me "Ms.Tenner". It made me feel twenty years older than I am.

The thing that really shocked me was the expression on Niall's face once I entered the room. He seemed to already be ecstatic so this face was kind of....creepy.

"Guess what?!" he exclaimed, placing his hands firmly on my shoulders.

"What?" I giggled, removing the clasps he had on my arms. His smile widened even more, which seemed sort of impossible.

"I get to leave sooner!" He wrapped me in a bone-crushing hug. "I'll be free! And I can box again! I'm so happy."

"Oh," I simply stated, disappointment enriched my tone. I could feel Niall's grip loosen.

He pulled away from the embrace and stared into my eyes. "Are you mad?" His eyebrows furrowed on confusion and his hand still held my mine. He wasn't afraid to touch me. He was comfortable.

"No," I mumbled, breaking the contact of our hands. His confused expression worsened as I turned towards the door, my feet slowly making their way to the hall.

"God dammit!" His arm forcefully turned me around. Before I could even comprehend what was happening, his lips were on mine. I immediately kissed back, I'd been wanting this for a while now. Niall pulled away from the kiss that left me in awe. "Now tell me why you're mad," he demanded.

"I wasn't mad. I was just worried that...."

"Worried that what?" He took a strand of my "hair" inbetween his fingers.

"That you'd forget about me. "

His mouth hung open ever-so-slightly as gave me a serious gaze. "I would never."

I squeezed my eyes shut, thinking of every single circumstance.

I knew I was going to die, and Niall knew it too. But, this boy. This boy was the first boy I actually wanted there. I wanted Niall by my side for the rest of my time.

A breeze on my head pulled me out of my thoughts. My wig was removed and I could feel it. I opened my eyes to protest to Niall's actions when I felt his lips showering kisses onto my skin.

"You're perfect and don't let anyone tell you any different."

Niall's POV

"And thank you, White Eskimo!" Mrs. Dobbs, the receptionist, called out. The crowd of children cheered for the group of British boys who'd just taken the stage. "Next we have a solo act from one of our own patients! Give it up for Niall Horan!" The crowd chanted my name in a harmonious tone.

"Niall! Niall!"

I grinned sheepishly, taking the stage with my guitar. There were more kids than expected, my nerves started to wreck. I took a deep breath.

They're just kids Niall. Little tykes, they're easy.

My eyes flew across the crowd finding Brooklyn in the front row as I took a seat on the chair set out for me. I smiled at her, but she just returned with a worried look. We hadn't really discussed what I was going to perform since the other song was gone. But, I had it all planned out.

"This song is for someone special. She knows who she is," I spoke into the head of the microphone with a smile. I had taken time to tune my guitar beforehand so there wasn't an awkward time of me strumming it and turning the knobs until it was perfect. But, I knew it was going to be an amazing performance.

The pick squeezed between my index finger and thumb slid across the strings in the perfect pattern. The melody danced over the crowd, making all of the children smile.

"Don't try to make me stay, or ask if I'm okay. I don't have the answer.

Don't make me stay the night, or ask if I'm alright. I don't have the answer."

I grinned as the lyrics left my lips. I had originally wrote Irresistible for Alicia, but now it was aimed for someone else.

I was falling again. And harder than ever before.
